  • So, let me tell you a little story. A few years ago I came across this kid, (I'm 54 now, so this was a kid to me), I loved his music. I told my then 12 yr old daughter about him. Well, I'm mom so she shrugged me off. Fast forward a couple years and this kid had a new song. I wasn't shocked, but I was surprised how powerful it hit. This little song was "Hi Ren". I sat my daughter down, had her watch it. All of a sudden I knew what I was talking about, I was almost cool. I sent the link to nieces and nephew. They then sent it on to their friends, and so on. So, thank you Ren for making this old lady almost cool for a moment in my daughters mind. Just know I'm holding the KCMO area down for you, and for you too Knox! Love you both!

    • Hey, I'm holding down the other part Missouri just outside of the Lou, and watch that "old" talk, I'm 54 years young 😋. I also need you to have your daughter contact my daughter, and son, ASAP and inform them of Ren's awesomeness, apparently Ren's music hasn't hit their friends circle yet, and they won't give it a chance cause it's "dad's music"..lol. I can't wait til it does though and they have to admit they love it. Is it wrong that I will take pleasure seeing them have to eat their words?? 😂😂

I showed him the end of hi ren so he could see there are others who know how hard life can be and it helped. So i have to thank a young man for helping a 66 year old feel much better to the fact hes still here. I think people are more tribal .seems we're going back to the times when we had tribes and clans .but if people just chill we would all be happier. • As a guy in a wheelchair battling health for most of my life, I can’t agree more when he said we need to laugh more about things. Humor relitavizes things and put things in perspective like anything else. My situation doesn’t get any better ever, so I might just laugh and joke about it rather than sitting in the corner crying and being mad at things can’t change. Deal with it, and make the most of it.

  • Ren is not only schooled on all different genres of music, he is educated about geopolitics. This guy is intelligent and he's put in the work. He's one of the few recognizable people out there who I recommend people stop and take a minute or two to really listen to what he has to say. Ren knows his history. Much can be learned from Ren and people like him. They are few and far between but I feel a shift occurring. I feel a good shift in people yet I also feel an evil shift amongst the controllers. It's a race now. The only question is who will make it to the finish line first: Good or evil. Props to you Ren.

  • Ren mentioned the reincarnated Ren and the old Ren and to some it might not make sense but I resinate with him as I was dealing with my mom with Alzheimer’s and read a poem called My Two Moms in which it talked about the mom that she grew up with the living and caring mom and now her new mom who doesn’t even know her name or remember who she is. That concept hit home and when I went to visit my mom as my new mom I was more joyful to visit my mom and get to know my new mom and still cherish my old mom. Once I separated the two my emotional roller coaster smoothed out and I was ready to spend her final days with a smile, comfort and support instead of tears and anger as to why this happened to my mom at such a young age. Now I can say I Love both of my moms!

    • This comment hit me hard. I lost my mom to Alzheimer's on the eighth of January (the day before my birthday) this year. I took care of her for almost an entire decade. She had an aid during the day; but at night it was me caring for her. I watched the decline from the very beginning; which was actually the hardest part. (When she thought that she could still do things that she actually couldn't anymore.) It's the hardest thing I've ever done in my entire life and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. My mom was a great mom. Only people like us know what it's like to miss someone who's right in front of you. I'm glad you managed to have a brighter outlook about it than me

    • Hi…I don’t see that it will eliminate a chance to see him. He’s said touring will be difficult as he’s always going to be in some form of recovery. For now he needs to be close to his Drs in Calgary so basing himself in America makes sense, and whilst there he has an opportunity to network with the people he needs/wants to for creative reasons plus I think him and Sam discussed wanting to do a Netflix series. He’s too loyal to his fan base and who knows who’ll get to see him first but for me he’s just a guy catching up on all the things he’s missed out on, gap years travel 😊 time for just him and America is big enough to allow him to have his cloak of invisibility….for now. Warmest wishes and 🤩🤞🏻for when he does tour as Scotland will welcome him with our great big hugs 🫶🏻🤍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

  • Hi from Saskatchewan Canada. I just found your music and I want to tell you I’ve really connected with it in a few different ways. I was just diagnosed with autoimmune after about 12 yrs of doctors telling me it was all in my head and feeling like I was going crazy. The other reasons are regarding my children my daughter is 16 yrs old and has always had complex medical issues but this last year everything has progressed and get really bad and nobody knows why. This time last year she was running around and riding a bike and now she’s in a wheelchair most of the time and is only awake for 4 hours in a 24 hour period. On her 16th birthday (July 2023) she could only manage to sleep and was heart broken. Also my two boys have struggled with mental health issues and I’ve had 2 sisters who have committed suicide. To me your music touches on so many of the battles my kids and I experience in our brains and our emotions, with our bodies, regarding medications and the pros and cons, doctors, the trauma, trying to explain it to others, fighting desperately to remain hopeful . Thank you for putting into words what I’ve been experiencing for many many years with my health and with watching my children go through the same. To be honest I’ve really been struggling this last couple of months and your music has reminded me that I’m not a quitter

    • @@optimistinmyprime thank you- the hardest thing any parent can experience is watching their child deteriorate and be in pain and not being able to do anything and so far none of the doctors can figure out why it’s happening. The cherry on the sundae is my daughter is going through so much physically, emotionally, and medically and understandably is struggling with her mental health saying her life sucks because she’s always in pain and or sleeping and my son is struggling mentally with having to watch his sister go through all of this and he’s stressed so bad his auditory hallucinations are returning and the doctors are refusing both of them mental health help. Both of them begging for therapy/counselling. They’ll put them on pills but won’t offer counselling or any other kind of talk therapy because they are autistic and delayed. The doctor straight out said she refuses to refer them because she doesn’t think they are capable and it would be a waste of time. I’ve been mentally, emotionally, and physically overwhelmed and heartbroken and felt like I was sinking. One night while I was up all night watching my daughters seizures, tremors, heart rate, and breathing I discovered Ren and watched Hi Ren, Sick Boi, and Chalk Outlines over and over all night long bawling because those three songs resonated so much I felt it in my soul. That night renewed my strength and stubbornness and I became a Ren fan

It is really hard, I'm truly sorry for this happening to you (or others), I hope that your family finds some specialist to help you (mentally or with body), therapy saved so many lives, I don't get why they can't help autistic children... (I would drop my cool, really, in your situation. Who other can help if doctors can't?!)

  • Great interview. What ren was saying about comedy and people taking themselves too seriously and being offended by a joke or something said jokingly, but still acknowledging that some things need to be called out. That's exactly the way I've come to look at it. Ren has the right attitude, the right outlook, and he is a very intelligent person. And l love his music and lyrics and his diversity with music. I'm pulling for ren.

  • To look at my difficulties and joke about it and seeing the humor in very crazy and tragic situations have helped me. Sugarcoated behavior that tiptoe around things, never addressing it head on because of ridiculous behavior codes of what can be experienced as offensive, is really damaging. My experience is that it leads to less true compassion because things are never discussed to the degree that leads to understanding of the plights of others, and the value of their life experience. Never seeing the strength of the person suffering, just a weakling that can't tolerate even slight discomfort although the same person has gone through endless difficulties and endured. And you often realize that prejudices simmer just under this nice looking surface because the person has never really seen you.

  • It must be great to be able to just park one thing and go back to it after something else exciting was happening. No signed artist would be able to do this without massive pressure from the industry. So glad Ren has stayed independent and is doing well enough from his music financially to not have to lose his soul to the vile, manipulative music industry. It's joyous to watch this, honesty and integrity with no f@cks given and no one censoring the conversation.

In the song it's said by the negative ego in a really sarcastic manner, but it's clear it's what Ren really believes.

  • Been looking for a way to send fan message to Ren. I was just introduced from my husband to Rens music about a month ago and now i have to listen to him daily as much as possible. THRILLED to hear you will be in the US more! Im in Alabama and can hope to see you live one day! Your music and your story hit me so close to home. I'm about a decade older but have been through cancer and long-term mental health and chronic illness for so long with minimal help from Drs. So your music i can really relate to so much. You are so extremely talented and just an amazing speaker, singer, musician, all the above! I pray for the best for you in your health and career and life in general. You are truly valued by your fans and I can't wait for more people to hear what they've been missing when they first hear from the Great Ren Gill!! I absolutely live off listening to your videos on KZhead and constantly asking Alexa to play The Big Push! Apparently Alexa only has one song from just under your name. Looking forward to being able to play sick boi everywhere. Looking forward to Merch and just want you to know how special you truly are inside and out to those of us fans that can relate to your pain. I wasn't quite as young as you when going through the shit, but at 37 in a cancer waiting room with elderly people all around, i sure felt young and so hard to get out of bed and be a mom with the chronic pain and meds and never ending. I always love learning what you are doing medically to feel better and heal. My youngest 16 year old has Pots as well and also relates to your medical journey. I would love to find someone to help her like you've found in Canada. Please take care of yourself first and foremost. That's what is true fans want mostly! I just joined patreon and think it's great you have a free option. Im also keeping up with you on Bandcamp and really anywhere i can learn more of this amazing encouraging person that's overcome similar medical and mental journey. Keep doing what makes YOU happy! Hugs from Bama!!!! ❤❤❤

  • ❤ Every time I hear Ren talking and Tuomas Holopainen talking, I just have the feeling of them being some kind of kindle spirits. And I just want to make them find each other. If nothing else, just talking with each other. Please @Knox Hill help me make that happen. Somehow. Tell Ren to read this: Tuomas: "The human species has enormous potential. 99% of us are really good guys - empathetic and altruistic." These are key themes on Nightwish's upcoming album. The band wants to remind us that the world is getting better every year in many ways. "Every time I hear a politician on TV talking about the good old days, my hair stands up. Would you rather go to the dentist today or 50 years ago?" Holopainen asks. For Holopainen, music is also a means of influence. He not only hopes and dreams of making the world a better place through his music, but also sees it as his mission. "We have a duty to Mother Earth to at least try to leave our planet in better shape when we leave than when we arrive. The means are endless." " ❤
