This rusty vise was a real challenge! I disassembled it with hammers, after that i restored all of the metal parts and gave them a nice new painting. I also made a new handle on the lathe! After reassembling this vise works perfectly fine again!
Very nice video! That's a pretty cool lathe with that milling attachment you got there, I love it.
Thanks a lot! Yeah it’s pretty smart and easy to handle! But it’s not the best for bigger parts, as the operating dimensions are limited. Thanks! ❤️

My favourite restorer
Check out PB Blaster. It's like super WD40
I will never get over how all of the restoration channels (TySy, My Mechanics, Mr. Patina, etc. etc.) All know each other and even seem like they're all friends, it always warms my heart when I see comments from another channel or see them send/recieve something from one another, its so sweet
True ! In such a cold world!😢
🎉
I will add one more, I put this restoration channel top tier with My Mechanic, “Cool Again Restoration”
Plot twist. It’s all the same guy with different channels.
@@drob449 thats what I'm worried about 😭😭
Some people might say, “why go through all this trouble….Just get a new one.” However, the satisfaction this guy got along with all his viewers in immeasurable!
Thanks Rufus!
I guess what is trouble for some is a labor of love for others. I know how satisfying this is for us to watch. Just think how satisfying it is for the people doing the restoration.
Yea but like my Dad always said…THEY DONT MAKE EM THAT WAY ANYMORE….NO SHIT , ILL LOOK FOR MADE America………
Right? His hobby isn’t buying new stuff. If he just wanted a new vice he could have hopped down to the hardware store. He probably has a ton of fun restoring old stuff. He must since he has a whole channel dedicated to it.
@James - thanks man, you got it 🙂
I learned to keep my household tools clean and shiny by watching Mr. Patina and My mechanic. Thank you both.
Simply a genius. I love when somebody could take the high-quality items of yesterday that have been extremely neglected and refurbish them to store quality condition they deserve it and it takes a certain type of person to do this. This is heavy patients, heavy knowledge, and simply a ton of artistic skill. Always love to watch one of these videos
Hi dear friend. My name is Hadi and I live in Iran. I was amazed at your accuracy and creativity in doing things. dude I am a fan of your channel. I introduce your KZhead channel to all the people of my country and I pray to God that you and your family and everyone you love are always healthy. ❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Hadi my friend! Iam really glad to have subscribers like you are, i really appreciate! I wish you and your family all the best! Thank you!
Hi🙏🙏🙏
This one came out even better than I expected. The handle is wonderful, and I like how you kept the original pitting in the vise itself while making the user areas perfect again. She’s ready to go another 100 years for sure.
Hey man, thanks a lot for your kind words!
You work like a guy who has the absolute maximum amount of patience ever. As a person with bad but controllable anxiety these videos really calm me down if I’m worked up! 🤣😅 awesome work thank you!
"Repeat 412 times" got me. Loved this restoration!
Yeah the guy is amazing. He's an engineer / artist. His videos are awesome
Thanks 🙂
Wow my brother from another mother, this was your best video so far. One day you'll sit back in your mansion in beautiful Northern Italy looking down at Laggio di Como and you will think to yourself: "man I was such a smart bro to buy myself a lathe and to polish a vise like Not Terrible Restorations did it" See you soon 😊
Haha, this was your best comment so far! 😄 Yeah, and I will invite you, so we can lathe-mill together in the sunset of northern Italy. Thanks 😘

i like these type of restorations no constant blabbering and no awful music just a restoration :)
Вторая жизнь появилась у этих тисков! Очень хорошо получилось👍
I've seen lots but this is the First time I've seen someone repair a bench vise without putting bondo / body filler on it to hide rust blemishes, good job!, great resto!
Thank you for mentioning this. In my opinion it’s a Tool and doesn’t need more than 2 layers of rust protection! Thanks for watching! 🙂
@@misterpatina may not be needed but it sure looks nice :-p
This machine would have worked even if it was not polished.. but it is your creativity that made it a masterpiece before anything else.
Практически ювелирная работа. Мастеру уважение 👍
That ressed end with the screw then rounding it off was a very Gucci move
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Gotta say, these videos, restoring tools, and making jigs are three of my favorite things. God job on the vice!
Really excellent job!! Hammerite is always so complimentary to forged housings. Love seeing the grease gun in use from Mr. Beer too. This was just perfectly done, even the new jaws makeover. A+ !
I love seeing old equipment given a new lease of life. An absolutely top notch job. 👍
Thanks my fellow bearded friend!
Just when you work on a pet and I think it looks just fine, you then add a couple of more steps to make it look even better. Love the dry humor and educational value of your videos. I'm a subscriber and these just keep me mesmerized throughout the entire process.
I can’t thank you enough for your videos. It is wonderfully gratifying to see all of these mechanisms and tools restored. You make them better than the day they were first made. Cool stuff.
These are some of my favorite restoration subjects. Unlocking a deadlocked vise is...interesting, to say the least.
I love it when someone takes the time to do everything correctly. Superb job! Congratulations!
Thank you so much! 🙂

I came back to the video after going for a beer and I stop in my tracks and say, wow, dudes basting his vice! And I saw nothing wrong with that. Love your videos!
Thank you so much!
Beautiful restoration! A new life for this nice little vice.
Yes! Fire always helps 🔥 Hammer screwdriver is a great tool sometimes for those stuck screws and bolts.
To and fro; if it moves, and there's enough friction that there's a chance of the bolt shearing, it has a better chance of coming out if you back-and-forth/worry it continually while unscrewing.
Man, what a makeover. The turned screw on the end of the handle is a nice touch. Good vice saved from the melting furnace. Fantastic job....again!! Thank you Mr P. for all these cool videos.
Thanks for your support Roger!
ahahahhaa Honestly I am super happy to see a broken bolt! All these repairs and not one ever seem to get a fastener snapped in half 😆
Haha!
Your humor is terrific, it really sets you apart from the others. Ok that was my compliment-copter
So I guess it’s legit to give you the thanks-a-lot-copter back! 😄
Excelente trabajo mi hermano me gustó mucho, felicitaciones un abrazo grande desde Bogotá Colombia
Awesome Job!! I've gotta tell you that I've watched a good many Vise Restorations here, on KZhead, but you're the 1st one I've seen, who dressed up the Anvil part of a Vise, with a Milling Machine & get it extra nice like you did here!! Highest Compliments!! Ron Abilene, TX
given the tools you have and the time you spend on any given project I think it is safe to say that there is not much if any thing you can not restore in a great and timely manner ... great stuff
Splendid outcome! Sometimes when dealing with thick rust I’ll just build a big fire and throw the item in and let it get red-hot and cool down in the coals overnight. Helps with stuck bolts too. Just subscribed!
I suspect the restoration of this vice turned out to be a much bigger job than you initially thought it was going to be.
You, Sir Fitzgerald, are definitely right! :-)
When you turned and threaded the end cap on the handle, I was thinking “what’s the point of that”, once you finished, I actually said out loud “nice one” 😂
Haha, thanks!
WOW! is all I can say bud. You did an amazing job giving new life to this bench vise. Keep up the great content and know that you are an inspiration for up and coming tool restorers like myself! 👏
Thanks my friend!
Hi my friend 👋👋👋 awesome restoration vise 👍👍👍 cool 🔥🔥🔥✌🏻🇷🇺
Hey friend, thanks a lot! :-)
I have to say, what is the point of putting “acetone” in 3 languages on a can when all of them are only different by one or two characters lol. In all seriousness, beautiful work. I love watching you and My Mechanics do your magic on old neglected pieces.
I absolutely love how the ball on the handle came out! Looks perfect!
Thanks William!
I find it so relaxing to know that the fellow will always have the right tool. I would have killed today for a 1 inch die. One day I will have ALL the tools. And thinking about that makes me feel very content.
Incredible restoration. You are a master craftsman. Bringing good but neglected old tools back to life is wonderful to see.
Iam glad you enjoyed! 🙂

Spasibo bolshoye!
The OCD treatment of the green paint with how it sounded so perfectly in tune is enough for a subscribe ….. And ooohh shiny
Odd tinkering is my favorite restoration channel. He lead me to all these others. I never knew this community existed
As always taking an ordinary old used up piece of equipment and making it extraordinary. Two star to five star. Far greater than the vise was brand new from the factory those many years ago!
Nice job and appreciate your work 9:00 When you mill the vise to get a perfect surface, you should mill the base circle first in order to get a perfect reference base. Otherwise, even you make a perfect surface on the upper part, when you put the vise on the bench, these milled surface will be slanted.
Hey, thank you very much! And thanks for this information, iam new to the lathe/mill and accept every tip you can give me :-)
@@misterpatina you're a really nice guy man , don't have a clue about any of this , but I can see you are dedicated, open to compliments and criticism, and that's how you should run a workshop and KZhead channel. Well done man

Haha, thanks!
Not gonna lie, Mr. P... your restoration was pretty sic !!! I especially liked how you fixed the handle with the ball and screw (17:25)... really cool !!!
Hey George, thanks! Iam really glad you enjoyed!
I would love to see more of how your milling attachment works, but do you think those jaws are going to actually hold anything? I would have probably used a much finer cross hatch, looks great though!

Could you do my dear old Dads vice?. 🤣 Lovely restoration. Love seeing old bits of kit being restored to useability!. Keep em coming!. 🙂👍
Thanks a lot Rob! Theyll come :-)
The algorithm recommended this video... While I'm in the process of restoring the exact same vice model!!! It will even have the same color, which I already purchased! Crazyyyyy! I'm done grinding the cast marks and I covered the rest with putty, I sanded it down to make it smooth... it's ready for painting now. But mine is in much better shape than yours. I'm speechless... Great job btw!
Wow! Amazing job. I really like how you did the rounded screw on the handle. I certainly hope you didn’t pay much. Your written English is very good. Very small point, in English, we always capitalize “I” when referring or talking about ourselves. Great video. Have a happy holiday, sir.

What a Awesome restoration! I knew that this project will be one of my favorites of your channel. I loved It. Keep It up Bro! ❤️
Hey Bro, thank you so much for your kind words! :-) I will
I really enjoyed what you done with the slit screw in the back of the handle. The result was mind blowing! Also, WD-40 is not really that effective to lose rust bolts (better than nothing, for sure). I learned that acetone and automatic transmission oil make an excellent penetrating fluid. I also recommend that you apply it 24 prior, this allow the solution to penetrate (thanks to the low viscosity of automatic oil) and corrode the rust (thanks to acetone).
I was laughing so hard that I almost choked. Aluminum sponges are a strong move!
Great video. And thank you for not including any music or talking. The sound of the tools and machines only is perfect.

Thanks Steve! My dad watches my videos and I guess he really is 🙂
@@misterpatina Mines been dead for 12 years. Keep yours close. They are gone a long time. ❤️❤️
I will ❤️
You did an excellent job and way better than anything I could do. However one small thing I have learned is that when something is rusted like those screws you need penetrating oil not DW40.
that doesnt work, project farm did a test about that.. and this just doesnt work.. the fluids doesnt go in the threads.. so no point in putting stuff... melted wax, penetrating oil, wd40 etc.. all useless
@@jackl2254 I respectfully disagree. I use Cyclo Break Away, and it does work, and goes into the treads like nothing else I have used. It is a little hard to find, but it does work for my rusted nuts and bolts.
What can I say?! The video is one of my favorites, like you with your channel! You surpass yourself with every additional video! Keep it up, I am and will remain a loyal fan!
Hey Bro, thank you so much! Iam a little speechless right now ❤️
It was much better when you had finished than it was when it was brand new out of the factory. Congratulations!
Thanks Martin! 🙂
During the electrolysis process to restore woodworking hand planes, I used to use Boraxo washing powder, but I think it’s been discontinued and hard to find. It did a very good job and didn’t need an additional rust treatment. I haven’t tried baking soda. Great job!
Dude, that vise is beautiful. Love the way you tightened up the tolerances and the super smooth operation when finished. Super nice restoration and great camera work too. Job well done sir. -May I suggest a spray or brush on 2 part epoxy primer? If not epoxy, then a high build spray on primer. It fills small defects and is sandable. It also prevents corrosion and helps the paint bond. - Again, job well done on the vise restoration.
Thank you so much!
Молодец, нет слов. У вас золотые руки. 🤝👏👍👍👍

this mesmerizing to watch the transformation from gunk to beautiful. I would have never attempted to restore this one, glad you were able to do a magnificent job. Love the contrast between the polished parts and the rough boidy.

Amazing work and a very handy tool with many stories behind it saved from a scrap yard! Have you tried an impact driver for the stuck screws in the jaws? I love mine and use it often to break rusty screws loose in automotive applications, keep up the great work and amazing content!!
