  • Hey Austin I really enjoy your channel and videos I've learned at lot watching you. I do quite a bit of irrigation pipe welding and I have Just a quick tip for you on the pipe that was egg shaped. When you roll any pipe off of a trailer it is almost impossible to get it to land perfectly. So one side will hit first causing the other end to whip down with enough force to egg shape the pipe. If you have to roll pipe off a trailer put a couple old used tires down first and roll the pipe on them thus cushioning to drop and preventing the egg shape to the pipe.

  • The cut back for a 45* miter is 1/2 of the OD (outside Diameter) of the pipe works on any size pipe.

  • Now I know that I’ll need a blue book. Also like the way you checked you angle with the speed square. That good old line of sight or dead reckoning is a good check method.

  • Great job Austin, I learned you really do great work and figuring things out properly before cutting. I also learned that I won't be doing any entrances like this. I'll leave it to you younger and stronger folks to do. I sure enjoy watching your videos and wish you continued success and look forward to your next video. Fred.

  • Just a quick tip for you Austin. Put some tin under your trailer tires. It helps the tires last longer so the don’t weather rot

  • Seeing that 12" reminds me of some flanged fire pump fittings I've made in the past year. Keep up the great videos and good work

  • Hey Austin, the curve o mark pipe contour marker will do different size of pipe from 0 to 45. It's a real time saver.

  • Looks great! love the videos, been a fan for quite some time. i was curious if you would share info on cost of pipe and explain the process of going to the steel mill to order pipe or even flat stock/ hss. Thanks Austin excited to watch the rest of this project.

  • Hey Austin, I have to ask, will your chain fall pick that complete piece of pipe up? I’ve done a lot of rigging over the years, and if it will pick it up, all you have to do is measure center, sling it and then once you got it in the air just one hand would’ve teeter totter it to put your jackstands underneath. It was just a question and a thought. Awesome video!

  • Wow! Brother, what a great project. I'm excited to watch the progression with it. Keep up the good work and as always really good videos. A couple of questions: I was not clear if you were going to do the installation? The height of the uprights looks like they will be a serious shipping problem, as you stated, to have it completely welded up to ship. Would you breif us about this. Looking back over the video, I do realize the uprights will be shipped to be installed on site. Another question: On such a long heavy gate, will you be mounting on bearing hinges or sleeves over the pipe? I never got a response about pictures I sent a while back of some serious hinges for such a project. They sure would make these gates work smooth. You do great work, I'm not trying to tell you how to do. I'm just saying these hinges brought my project up to a much higher level.

  • Dam 12" 👍 😯 thats a biggen. Im doing a 8" with 6" 45s. And thought it was heavy. How deep are you gonna get the holes and wide? What do you expect it to weigh when it's assembled?

  • I helping a rig welder with 12 inch carbon steel. We use 6010 root, 3/32 7018 hot pads, and 1/8 7018 fill and cap I was just wondering how how many joints should we be doing a day? It’s usually 6 hours minus breaks to finish. But if we were giving her what should we be aiming for?

  • You may want to catch that guy (kid) over in India {or wherever he is located}, he use's only everyday paper, {I would call his method, Idiot-Proof. A.K.A. KISS-Proof= Keep It Simple Stupid} (Paper is placed so as to cover the outside Dia. of a given Pipe / Tube, tightly, so as to match the outside Dia., exactly) and folds according to dia. of pipe. He than cut's the angle, on the folded paper as needed / so desired, than opens the folded paper, slip's it on the pipe / tube, and marks his cut. Bob's your uncle. Layout time, using the paper method, maybe 8 to 10 min's max. Plus, you now have a Template to mark the other end, and or keep in stock for further use. For 12" in. Pipe, a possible source for paper (Template Material) big enough to do the job, paper used in Plotter's (Architect's / Engineer's printer's, 24" in. wide X length so desired {Ten to Twelve feet, more that enough}) paper used in the construction trade to protect finished floor's. Think heavy brown butcher paper, my guess what would be called 50 - 75 pound paper {or more.} (Approx. 3' Ft. Wide Rolls X whatever length it's sold in.) Again all that is needed {Ten to Twelve feet, more that enough.} You fold the paper as many times needed to get crease's in the paper, to equal your recommended layout lines. While the paper is folded, layout your angle of cut so desired, cut with a pair of scissors', open it up, slip it on / over the Pipe / Tube, Tape together the two ends of the paper, make your marks as necessary. Start cutting. Bob's your uncle. Untape / Remove the Tape, walk to the other End of your Pipe/Tube, put on your already made template, with Tape as necessary, mark as necessary, cut. Bob's your uncle. Rinse, and Repeat.

    • It's called a pipe welders level with a built in center punch. The level is an upside down Y. Has a bubble level. You center level the pipe. Punch Internal built in level with a hammer. Done move the pipe. Go to the other end of the pipe and do the same. You can run a chalk line down the punch marks. Snap the chalk line. At the center. Use the tool to make sure it's in the center. I used a smaller version when I was cutting notches in pipe on both ends. Worked good. I saw the tool on Ross channel here.

    • 6" cut line will give you a 22.5 angle cut. To get a 45 angle you need 12" cut line.
