Mayanbula pride of lions is joined by a mega herd of elephants
I apologise for not posting frequent updates on the Mayanbula pride of lions over the past few months. They have been spending a lot of their time in the eastern Timbavati, which means we don’t get to see them as often as we used to. Their change in location might be a result of pressures imposed by the five big Vuyela male lions that have been infiltrating the Myanbula pride territory from the western side.
On this occasion, we had an amazing afternoon with the Myanbula pride. They were all lazing around a small dam, not doing too much of anything. Every now and then, one of the lions would wake up briefly. Most often it was one of the cubs looking for another pride member to play with. We were very fortunate to be able to spend roughly 40 min in this sighting watching and waiting in hopes that they would start to get more active soon.
While watching the lions, we heard some elephants far in the distance, but at that time we didn’t even think of them possibly showing up. All of a sudden, a large herd of elephants appeared out of the greenery, moving with haste straight to the water. It was amazing to see how quickly the lions made way, while the elephants had absolutely no idea of the lions presence.
Encounters like this one leave me to wonder… Who is the real king of the jungle?

Glad to see that the Mayanbula pride💞 and the Skorro males💞 are doing well without forgetting their beautiful little balls of fur, they are endearing to watch...I hope they will stay away from the Vuyela males💞 I don't want to to see a meeting between these two coalitions... Finally, the Skorro Males and Mayanbula Pride are back and looking in good health and condition. They're a sight for sore eyes, I have missed them so much. My evening is made, thanks Frank Wildlife!! There's nothing cuter than baby 🐘, well, lion cubs and I love em all. I enjoyed seeing the 🐘 show up with all of their precious little ones. They're so busy getting to the water that the lions are invisible to them at the moment. Beautiful Sightings!

Omg, the Mayanbula mega pride, what a treat! Great to see the 2 Skorro males with their lionesses & their 15 cubs. The 2 brothers are so impressive & extraordinary to keep a territory, to defend & protect their pride. However, the word “pride” belongs to the lionesses. Bow down to these queens. They are formidable, fiercest mums & huntresses. They are the Teflon ties that bind the pride. Frank, could you let us know if everyone is accounted for in pride, especially the cubs. And what happened to some who didn’t make it? Thanks so much. Lion society is very unforgiving. Each member has to fight for survival. Nature is brutal. But it’s not nature that is detrimental to the lions & wildlife’s existence. Humans are. Some human species choose to inflict egregious & barbaric acts on these magnificent beings. Come on humans, change for the betterment of wildlife & their natural habitats.
Hi there, Thank you very much for your message and all the kind words I appreciate it. We only saw 2 of the youngest 6 cubs which will take them down 13 still a lot of cubs considering the mortality rate of lions in general. The pride is spending lots of time further east and south of our traversing area due to pressure from the 5 Vuyela male lions slowly cutting into the Mayanbula territory.
Appreciate your info on the cubs. 13 is still a great accomplishment for the moms & their pride considering the lion cubs’ high mortality rate. From CS Wildcam, saw Vuyela coalition scent marking in the Skorros’ territory. It’s unsettling. Don’t want to see any fatality on either side & not cubs as a collateral damage. We r not making it any easier for them with the explosion of human population. These majestic beings are loosing more habitats & their resources 😠 Take care.

This is my favorite pride, and my favorite. Skorro Males where are they located now Frank? Thank you I haven't seen them in two months. There adolescent is 15 month now only 8 is, and the 3 under them are 11 months and the smallest should be maybe 4 or 5 months Great Video. Thank you for sharing love the elephants. I just read the subscriptions they are more to the east. Is that more near Kruger? The real king at this point is the elephants lol the pride don't want to draw attention to themselves. At night that a different story. That is when lions get busy
