Repair instructions how to fix your Amilo XA 2528 by suddenly shutdown.
This is a protection of the CPU /GPU to prevent damaged by overheating.
The instructions for updating BIOS and repair instructions are for your own risk.
If you don't have the skills to do it, let it do by a service engineer with knowledge of electronics !!!
Man, big thanks for this video, I watched this video and repair my amilo 2528 in one time.
Thanks a lot ! Inspired by this I just fixed my own Amilo that would go graphics bugging after 30 seconds and then black display after a minute (unless you used it outside in the winter when it would last maybe 10 minutes... ) Took away the copper heat sink / fan and sure enough: the heat sink paste on the grapichs processor was looking a bit tired so I cleaned it off and replaced that with some new and it works like charm now !
Excelent vídeo. Very good decision not to include a sound track neither locution. Pointing out both details and relevant bits. I liked particulary the high skill and attention to detail. Thermal dissipation system got overhauled and better than original. Congratulations you are a high pro.
Got one of these laptops for 2 dollars, overheated immediately before I even got started on a linux install. Cleaned up the fan and the fins which were clogged up, now it works decently although I'll probably buy some thermal paste since I've run out of it, but the entire heatsink was burning hot so clearly it was still transferring heat just fine it was just clogged up. And that copper piece was misplaced on mine too, good thing it didn't short anything out Pretty good deal for a machine that can still browse the internet, should be a good machine for legacy hardware and software if I ever need access to something that doesn't work on a modern machine. I was thinking about opening it up even further but it seems quite the hassle to get it fully disassembled
Muy detallado y completo y con gran cuidado la reparación. Yo tengo tambien un Amilo y voy a intentar llevarlo a cabo. Muchas gracias
Thank You
svaka čast !
Yes, you are right. Electro Statics (ESD) can damage chips. I have the ESD wrist straps and ESD matt but not used for now ;-( So this is a home video. In my office we use it all the time.
When I opened the case I found that peace off heatsink. So it has release from it`s possition. The copper heatsinkpeace was original taped (special heatingtape) ! So I taped it with aluminumheatingtape again. Due to the release of the heatsink, I used the spring to keep it on that place. To be sure it will stay there for the lifetime of that laptop.
I completely removed the GPU heatsink piece and replaced it with better one (and applied zink paste between the core and heatsink). I used silicon/rubber ring to hold it in possition. I came here to see how I could fix CPU overheating, Core 1 is always 10 celcius hotter than Core 0 and when it reaches 90 c, it starts to downclock. I guess I start with cleaning the fans...
Ik heb even een vraag, waar heb je die cool pads gehaald de grijze die op de heatsink plakken.. En hoe heet maak jij de chip zonder dat het plastic smelt van de aansluiting. Gr Foutus
Hello, Watch out when you use a heating gun! You must have the good temp. (about 370-400 Celsius not hotter) so you have to measure it with a thermocoupler element.Because solderwire will be overheat and will not more fluid well and of course the GPU will be internal damaged. What you also have to do is to protect the environment with aluminum foil.Make a shield arround the other parts. I have special tools for it, so it's for professionals. But it can be made with foil. Search youtube.Good luck.
Great job man, laptop repair is sooo tedious and time consuming. Unfortunately the customer never sees this part. They only see the $150 -$200 repair bill for a $300 -$400 laptop and wonder why? It's the laptop that's cheap the labor is still the same. Then there's the risk of damaging something in the process, there goes your profits... Maybe you can get a voice changer so you can sound like Stephen Hawkins and you can explain your steps..
I just removed all cooling units and cleaned all paste. Put in custom cooler master paste and its silent as my desktop.
Yes, I agree that a heatgun only is not proffesional. It solves not the problem. But this is another discussion and not for this video.
How to remove HDD from Fujitsu Siemens esprimo mobile
A 'heating gun' is a temporary fix. A BGA surface mount problem needs to be properly addressed by a BGA Rework Station, IF you want the repair to last. Also better add more cooling surface area, if you don't want the same problem to crop up again. Copper sheeting of the correct thickness, and surface area size. HP Pavilion dv2000 dv6000, and dv9000 series of Notebook PC's, have this design flaw. Surface area for cooling plate on Cooling Tube, is too small.
"vacuums create static" I didn't know that I wonder why my HTPC went south after vacuuming the heatsink :-)
The reason for this instructions to let everyone see how to solve the problem. The problem was that the laptop stopped suddenly and then rebooted or was not willing to startup again.
please use silver paste.

wooooow
mycameratube, I found an identical laptop on an auction site quite cheap. It is described as starting, but not displaying anything. The laptop looks quite good and the man says he hasn't tried to repair it. I'm thinking it might need a reballing(which would cost about the same as the laptop itself, still, if that would solve the problem, all in all, it would be a decent price for the performance). What do you think, should I risk and take the laptop? Thanks!
Hello Alex, don't buy it !! Look for another computer ! That's what I can advice you !
mycameratube Ok, thank you!
mycameratube Very well spoken:) The computer is a piece of crap, I have struggled such a long time. Eventually, Graphics card crashed. Changed operating system, reinstalled again the windows 7 after ignoring the laptop in the attic for 4 years, and the graphics card suddenly works(!). But still the computer freezes, and is unhealthy as ever since it was new.
Grats on 10k views lol
Hello wofindenwiruns87, I don't know how this laptop is build. I have tried to find some more info. I have found here a picture of replacing the cooling fan. Hope this will help. It's not possible to have a link in this reply. But go to the website replacedirect.nl and search for xa 1526. Next klik on "reparatie" and scroll down to the "koeler vervanging". Yes, I'm from the Netherlands.
Why do I need to upgrade BIOS if there is a heat problem? Can u plz answer Thank you
Hello Nikola, why you need to upgrade the BIOS? Because it can be that Fujitsu correct these heat problems by change the basic software. They can speedup the fan more or have a better regulations with the fanspeed. Or there may be a bug what is producing more heat than normally should be. That is the reason !
Ty for the fast answer.
For heatsink pads you can look at ebay: stores.ebay.com/Computer-Repair-GoldPart-Store/_i.html?_nkw=Heatsink+Cooling+Thermal+Conductive+Silicone+Pad+&submit=Search&_sid=1008585062
Hello, is it normal heatsink paste or a sticky one?
Hello Thomas, I used normal heatsink pasta. But if you have you can also use heatsinkpad!
Thank You
Wat was de temperatuur voor deze fix en hier na? :D
The temperature I did not measured before. The laptop switched itself off. That means that the temperature is more than 70 degrees.
Silent treatment? OK. Except very few will catch on that the heatsink plate came off that chipset. You are assuming they will catch on. Vacuum. This = No. Vacuums create Static electricity. Done it for years? OK. Wait until that one day, then Poof! Zapped the computer. Compressed air, small fine soft brush, and Q-tips. (Metal tools near the Processor = No. The Processor is the most sensitive hardware component to Static shock)
Ebay is your solution...
If anyone could tell me how to take the HDD out of one of these that'd be great :D
Bill, when you see the backside of the laptop, there is on the right sight a plate. Behind that plate there you find the harddisk. Remove it be unscrew some screws.
mycameratube Yeah I tried that, someone else had attempted a repair and bodged it up, the laptop was broken beyond repair so brute force prevailed :)
This thing was the biggest shit I've ever bought. Especially the Problems of linux 2.6.20 made me angry! I gave this crap a "Fist upgrade" and now I can see through the display.
Piece of tape to hold that copper heatsink plate in position? Oh, the Cooling Tube holds it in place. I mean, it's not like that Thermal Pad/Paste is going to get gooey, when the laptop reaches operating temperature, and let that plate slide off, right? Oh wait! That's what you found when you opened it up! lol! Tell me that IS NOT a metal scraper you are using! AND using it to apply Thermal Paste! Geez! Yep! Everybody with a camera is a 'Tech'! Lol!
Not a bad vid. But folks, seriously........"you are a high pro". Ummm, no. A pro would have removed the Cooling Tube/Heatsink right off the bat, THEN went to cleaning. You would also have an ESD wrist strap on, and attached to a good ground source. YOU may have relieved your body of Static, but the noobs on here doing for the first time, won't know this. Result? You could have BUNCHES of people Static shocking their computer, and not even knowing they did it.
slow ... slow ... too slow
