PREPARING for BAD WEATHER - (Alaska Off-Grid Cabin)

This week Drox and I worked on the cabin, fished and sat in the sauna. It was wonderful. Spending the weekend in the mountains with my grandson is just the greatest thing. It is what life is all about. I love the joy and wonder of childhood, and in a sense, I am reminded of my own youth when we are out here together. Time flies and I know these moments won't last long. I am so grateful for these memories. I sure don't want to miss out on them.
We will continue working on the cabin, sanding, painting, trimming and generally getting the place into shape. Winter is coming soon my friends. We also have a wedding happening here within the next few weeks. There is a lot of work to get done. I had better get to it.
Peace

  • I just adore watching these grandpa/grandson moments between you two. Even in the short time I've seen him he sure has learned a lot. Y'all asked that keep you informed on the husband, Kyle, and how he is doing. They have half the staples out from his hand where the grafts were placed and the rest are to come out this morning. The grafts look good and healthy. Well, relatively speaking that is. It still looks so bad, but I get what the doctor is saying. I will have to go to the hospital to learn to dress his hand and leg where the grafts were taken from, but I am trying to time it for when they will release him so I can bring him home the same day. Not sure if I told y'all before, but he is over an hour away from here and I can't see to drive so being able to see him during this past week has not been able to happen except for the day of surgery. Fingers crossed he is released soon and then can begin the long road to recovery. Doc says he'll have to follow therapy for at least a year.

  • Your grandson is very blessed to have a grandfather that can teach him so much and spend a lot of time with him. I was about 16 when my grandfather passed away. I'm 73 years old now and I can still remember how he loved me and spoiled me. I would got to visit him at the store and he would see me coming and would sing, If I'd ah seen you coming I'd of baked a cake. When I would be sad or having a hard time he would tell me, you are a poor little fellow with a coconut head. I know to many it may sound silly, but I really loved him and of course miss him. Son, you will learn a lot from grandad, spend as much time with him as possible. you will NEVER regret it Picture of you two sitting on the board fishing, is PRICELESS!!!

  • Wooden houses, they are like living organisms: - they always "breathe" and always require comprehensive care! It is a pity that we did not manage to see the results of fishing! Grayling loves to settle in such rivers! I often wonder how exactly you explain the basics of filming to Drox. "You enter the house together, and a video camera is already installed there," - all the previous remains behind the scenes! After all, you pre-direct his behavior, explain the next steps, etc. How does Drox view such entertainment? I see that with each new "film", he becomes more "liberated".

We just bought a log house and are trying to figure out which stain & color to use. Since we want something kind of orange and kind of red, the stain you chose looks really close to what we want. What was the type of stain and what color did you use on this cabin? It looks just about right. Thanks, Bill.

Have you ever thought of painting your front door a pretty color? I am always partial to blue so II think a dark blue that is the shade of one of your rain clouds would be great. Or maybe the blue of the water that you see every morning when you walk out the front door.....💙💙
