Lets be real, the amount of lore out there on this game, is quite few and far between. Because of that, we are going back to basics baby! The Terminid is an form of alien species liken to an insect on Earth with some start differences. While highly intelligent, they are also larger in stature and what we could expect an atmosphere of standard oxygen amounts to support concerning humans. So the question is why this? Well lets discuss that in todays episode!

    • given 710, I'm inclined to believe the bugs might not have any circulatory system at all. Humans process crude oil to create gasoline to power cars; we put gasoline in trucks and cars to setup pumps that pull the raw resource out of the ground, we bring it to heavy industry that processes it into a hyper-energy-dense form, we put that gasoline into trucks and cars to setup pumps that pull the raw resource out of the ground. If 710 is as energy dense as we're led to believe, the drones and guards that we fight might not 'eat' or 'breathe' much at all, since they might just use 710 as 'fuel' that just sorta moves through their cells via osmosis or other extremely slow "it'll get there eventually" processes. If the workers/drones just collect food/resources, bring it back to the hive, some other bug higher in the caste system processes it and turns it into 710, the workers/drones 'eat' that and run off of 710, it'd explain a lot of what we see. For instance, we know they don't have a closed circulatory system because you can blow off any part of them (even the head) and they'll be fine, unlike a human or any other animal which will very rather quickly bleed out. (they could have some instant-cauterization thing going on, but frankly that just seems a bit of a jump) We can reasonably infer they don't have any central processing organ like a brain since we can blow off their heads and they'll still be fine. (granted maybe they have some internal brain or something, it seems unlikely but I can't imagine any reason why it'd actually be impossible) We also know they reproduce rapidly and can sustain insanely large populations despite having no clear industry or technology. We also know they must have some extremely potent way of powering their bodies since, well, they get fucking massive. We also know they are hive-based insects with clear subspecies and a caste system. We also know they, for some reason, produce a substance with an energy density so high it can power space ships. So, putting the pieces together, it seems fairly obvious *_why_* they're producing 710. If they have a specialized sub-species that lives to produce 710 with it's hyper-energy-density than the workers/drones wouldn't actually need a 'circulatory system' as we think about it. A circulatory system is necessary for us because metabolism needs to be happening *_constantly_* and needs constant reoxygenation to occur, but if our bodies ran off of a substance energy dense enough to drive space ships, would we *_need_* to actively circulate it around? No, probably not - you're body would use so little of it that you just wouldn't need to actively push it around, so long as it got everywhere eventually, you'd be fine. So, you wouldn't need any circulatory system at all, I could poke holes in you, blow off limbs, etc. and you would never bleed out because, what blood? (well, I mean they probably would have some form of 'blood', but it just wouldn't be moving around all that much and certainly wouldn't be pressurized with a 4-chamber 2-stage organic pump that pushes it around constantly, including out of your own body.)

Also, the automatons are harvesting humans, you can check out dumpsters of human parts where the human heads are all stiched, implying that they either took the human brain out, or needed to torture them. Either Automatons need human parts for their effort, or they're a faction that requires 0 sympathy as they are just sadists. Also, the game released armor that resists Arc Damage by 95%, implying that we'll need it. Wish they'd make capes and helmets have passive effects, doesn't make any logical sense why a cape isn't flame retardent, or why some helmets won't be equiped with better breathing apparatus' for increased stamina regen, or scanners to help see in dense fog. • we know the automatons aren't all mechanical and machine, all of them, even their tanks, have exposed skulls that are a weak spot. Since they are descendants of the cyborgs, it can be assumed that their skulls are a weak spot because they still use their brains and haven't switched over to processors. Also their oil is a little bit too red to just be oil. Likely they extract human skulls, brainwash them, or somehow basically flash a different consciousness into the brain, and integrate them into the machines.

  • A bit more context on the first contact part. Super earth didnt know they produced oil until we were already knee deep in dead bugs. They initially wanted their planets using the justification that they'd mindlessly expand even to our colonies if we didn't stop them. These planets they were on were rich in oil and we didn't know the bugs were responsible for it until we started blasting them back to their homeworld. The only reason we didn't wipe them out completely was because they produced the oil. The bugs were found on multiple planets when we made first contact with them so they got their own way of traveling from system to system.

  • One note about the Cyborgs and the automatons. We need to take it with a grain of salt, but the crew members, talk about the Cyborgs as having been trapped in the mines of Cyberstan for 100 years, being 'rehabilitated' after they lost the war in the first game. There is also a binary message that the helldivers 2 twitter dropped prior to the launch of the game, that when translated declares that their children the automatons, will not suffer oppression. So, odds are. The cyborgs at some point during the war, figured they would lose the war and started prepping the 'next' generation. Their children, to be able to have the tools they didn't to succeed in independence. This also lines up with why the automaton's are heading to Cyberstan, to save their forefathers.

  • It is also possible, that instead of being eusocial insects, they may actually be more like most cockroach species and be social, but not have a queen. Cockroaches use aggregation pheromones to stay clumped together. Many types of insects are social, but are not eusocial. (like ants, termites, honey bees) Having a level of higher intelligence like we're claiming, could actually mean that they are more than likely not following a "hive mind" like activity, and are more than likely just clumping into groups, because they have the same goals of eating a reproducing. This may explain why they have eggs on multiple planets, and there has been no sign of a queen. The different types of terminids could suggest that they have castes, which would point more towards eusocial though. Im typing this from my pest control office on break. Im not an entomologist so please dont yell at me.

When you rescue scientists or civvies, they do not wear any helmets, indicating no special equipment is required to survive there. Though the queen concept you keep bringing up, we do not know of one yet. but currently there is known bugs bigger than the bile titans. Those being the Hive Lords, who dig the terminid tunnels and are EXTREMELY powerful. These guys were enemies in HD1.

My head canon is that there is an unseen variant of terminid that can biologically jump between systems. I also think there bust be a specialized digging terminid (possibly chargers) to construct the underground bug tunnel network, because the pointy limbs of most terminids seem poorly adapted for digging. Gotta add this edit another thing if you haven't read some of the notes in game one states they recently discovered that the bugs where somehow laying eggs and sticking them into human ships and hatch than spread without people noticing. I like the illumate theory but my theroy is humanity started it again because they needed a reason for war. Helldivers after the first galactic war hated their jobs and moral was low. Imagine coming home eager to liberate and destroy than becoming a crossing guard or something and with low crime rates. Super earth purposely let the hive rebuild and escape so they can rearm and instill hope and inspire more people to become citizens. Also c1-0 permit for all Helldivers and citizens 🙃.

Any who have lived from the first just too come back a 100 years. I summon you to speak and Fight again.” Who else played helldivers 1 before helldivers ?

  • The small farms you can find on some planets have a lore but saying that the atmosphere inside them is similar to Super Earth's atmosphere, so the oxygen might not be exactly the same. But then again when we escort civilians they aren't wearing helmets or breathers, so it's likely not *too* desimilar.

  • Great lore vid I saw another one can’t remember who it was from but some of the stuff they were saying didn’t make much sense this seems much more accurate and far more reasonable/ concise👍

  • To seal the deal on the atmospheric compatibility, you can find both SEAF and colonist bodies, as well as the living colonists you can extract as part of the missions on the Terminid front, none of which sport any sort of respirators. Also please do a video for the Automatons, you can use it as an excuse to cover how that technological transcendence might have played out because I'd love to hear your thoughts about that in particular.

  • There's actually a little interaction thing on earth colonist greenhouses. Supposedly, the little things with maybe 40 plants can replicate earth's atmosphere enough to live near. Civilian rescue missions also have them run to the escape without rebreathers or helmets
