for all those who thought Pacio won the fight. ONE Championship scores the entire fight, not round by round. In this case, Saruta was the clear aggressor both on the feet and the ground. Although Pacio was able to bring the fight to a decision, there were moments where he could’ve been finished. The roles were reversed in Pacio’s previous fight against Nobita, in which he was the aggressor while Nobita attempted to take him down without much success. It’s the fight game. These two fought bravely and the best man won. It is what it is. Great respect to both of them and can’t wait to see Pacio come back from this loss.

Congrats Saruta. Pacio had the wrong strategy in this fight. He was waiting for Saruta to initiate instead of him being the striker and the taller fighter. But he will learn from this and comeback stronger.

Kindly correct your caption. It doesn't belong to Saruta. An stellar all-round performance was shown by Joshua Pacio, round every round. Joshua was robbed from the title.
It was close but Saruta controlled for longer each round. He didn't cause damage but won due to control on the ground. Pacio is skilled in getting up though. Next fight prevent the take downs and he'll win the stand up.
Both are tough.....but Saruta is tougher.....if Pacio doesn't improve his cardio the next fight will goes to Saruta...Good luck for both of them...

It is obvious that " Pacio " should get the nod of the judges ( but looks like the judges already decided the fate of Pacio before the fight started ) .... Sarota kept of taking down Pacio but there has no damages inflicted from the take downs . Pacio on the other hand clearly showed the superiority in striking . Takedowns employed by Sarota maybe a threat but It's all defended well by Pacio ...... PACIO HAS BEEN ROBBED !!! With respect to One FC Organization they should work out for immediate " rematch " on this ....

My 2 cents here: If based on who's the current champ, defender of the belt doesn't have to be aggressive to win the match. If they based on total hits, then the Filipino should've won. However, if it's based totally on overall performance, the Japanese looked aggressive and had some successful takedowns, which scores big. So in that case, the Japanese won.

aggressiveness without damage accumulation is just like all bark no bite. of course Saruta's core skills is wrestling naturally they stay close to the opponent to have favorable takedowns. However, after Saruta's takedowns watch what happens, only movement but no damage done.
@@lukelook3930 so that's your basis on scoring who has more bruised face? do you know some fighters are called bleeders? they have different type of muscle tissue that reacts differently in pressure/collision. Just watch the replay and look closer which shots count. how many takedown fails versus takedown success and when succeeded, did he accumulate more damage?
Luke Look your criteria were right but not totally. Keep in mind they have different types of core skills. Saruta is a wrestler while Pacio is a Wushu specialist. Wrestlers need to keep their opponents closer for favorable takedowns while Wushu fighters need their opponents to be always in a striking distance. Naturally it would be like that no matter which one is the champion. So like I said aggressiveness is one of the criteria but if you can’t sustain any damage is just like all bark no bite. By the way the One Championship CEO showed disappointment on the decision and there will be a rematch within this year.

Congrats to the Japanese fighter 💪🏻💪🏻 Paico u did a great job. In MMA u need to be well rounded regardless is striking or ground game. Scoring the most points is takedown or takedown defense follow by striking. If Team Lakay only for striking and don’t like to be taken down then they shouldn’t compete in MMA at all as it’s clearly shows that judges is following the MMA rules set. They should compete super series instead and compete kickboxing or Muay Thai. This is my 2 cents thoughts. Definitely got salty Filipino will disagree with me.
I totally agree with you. If Team Lakay is strong at both ground and stand-up game, they can even dominate UFC.
ive watched almost all d games of pacio. in the past he is good on ground control and submission. but on this game he is throwing more head kicks and strikes. In my opinion he looks lost. Did the coach changed his gameplan? Did they not capitalized on his forte which is groundcontrol, his own bread and butter?

Saruta did score 5 inefficient takedowns and 1 good takedown albiet unethical but he also eats a lot of punches and kicks so round 1-3 is for Pacio 4 Saruta and 5 draw.

No clear victor for me. I don’t like split decisions as they are pointless. A draw and a straight rematch is always the best to hope for in these close fights. How many times in close fights do we see both fighters take their foot off the gas and not go for broke in the last round.
