Today I set out to see how hard ice skating is for a skateboarder. With the help of @JeniseSpiteri I try to learn 10 ice skating tricks with no experience

    • definitely takes practice, but you learn fast after falling a lot cuz the stupid brakes are on the front edge of the skate blade. eventually, you feel the speed achieved with little force as a sense of freedom akin to flying.

    • Been there done that.... NOT as flowing as surf, skateboard, or hydroslide to me... but .. i never put any major time into it.

    • I grew up in Ohio and am the same. I only wear pants when it’s absolutely required (dress code, wedding, etc) in shorts 99% of the time; even in the snow!

  • I played competitive ice hockey for over 20 years. I started skateboarding in 2020 after I quit Hockey several years prior. Id say that they have a lot of translatable skill sets but skateboarding is defiantly harder in my opinion. With ice skating, once you get a sense of your inside/outside edge you can get around pretty easy. Skateboarding has 4 Different ways you can ride and they all seem different in there own way. You were getting around pretty well for how new you are to Ice skating! Keep it up. Maybe try picking up a hockey stick? I wanna see Hockey rick! LOL

    • Goalie Rick. I played hockey a long time too. Tendy Rick would be awesome. Agreed skateboarding is harder. I do find as you mentioned at least as a goalie there are common themes. Nick the goalie and Rick.... That should happen lmao

  • Hi i would love to see you doing some more ice skating, but maybe more hockey one than figure one. Its kinda more "rough" like skateboarding is. And there is a lot of hockey tricks to learn too. But you need hockey skates for it

  • Riddell are a old school skate boot company that they where the brand to have prior to covid for even quad skates so you got hooked up well. Next try roller derby. Lol Riddell should be able to hook you up for some derby skates and wheels

    • @@rickyglaser not a well known name in austraila mate but i skte for dragon city in bendigo vic. But a good leather pair of riddels where an investment that should do you a life time same as a austrailan brand called Crazy skates but the rush on skates as it did with boards over covid pushed alot of companys to focus on cheap entry level products . They make more kids stuff now but my leather derby crazy skates are 15 years old and still copping a hiding but i did spend $800 them all up and i even use them in the local bowl. Never got a pair of riddels just because they dont do wide feet well, like vans. I have little but flippers of feet .. lol,

  • I think it mostly depends on your general sense of balance. The majority of people can ride a skateboard in the first/second go, but cannot stand on an ice skate without taking a hard slam or look like they pooped their pants hahahaha. Either way I think both are cool.

    • @@rickyglaser Jenise is the authority on tricks it seems, I can jump and twirl backward and forward, do figure 8s and stuff but when I need to stop I’ll drag a skate and pray I wasn’t flooring it beforehand

  • Hey Ricky can i get any comment on the Lastra situation? Things are blowing up now and i hope braille addresses it and i also hope they don't hold it against Nigel which i find hard to believe.   • This goes to show, its not about the content, its the creator/creators. I chose this vid over brailles how to ollie over a skateboard....oh and technically those are all moves, not tricks. Ice skating is like dancing or ballet.. gi find some extreme ice skaters who like grind ice hubbas and jump down stairs
