What’s the Legend (2015) movie about?
From Academy Award winner Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential, Mystic River) comes the true story of the rise and fall of London’s most notorious gangsters, Reggie and Ron Kray, both portrayed by Tom Hardy in an amazing double performance. Reggie is suave, charming and volatile. Ronnie is his unstable twin brother. Using violence to get what they want, the siblings orchestrate robberies and murders while running nightclubs and protection rackets.
Legend is a classic crime thriller taking us into the secret history of the 1960s and the extraordinary events that secured the infamy of the Kray twins.

  • Watching it a second time you see just how clever mum is...leaving the room to get the tea...leaving again to get the cake. Giving them time to have a few words, then reminding Reggie about family and giving Ronny an alibi, all with a gentle mummsy smile on her face. Matriarch level skillz on show there.

    • It's contrived. She leaves the room to make tea or get cake whenever she knows they will be discussing "business" and she plays on Reggie's slight cold and prepares the bed for him to give him an alibi if ever he's questioned about the murder in the pub (and then appears again and acts surprised that the gangsters disposing of the weapon and intimidating witnesses have gone). It's clear she's also aware of Reggie's (and more famously Ronnie's) bisexuality, because she invites the pretty boy Teddy to stay behind despite her son's alleged "fever". It's a small scene, but a significant one: Violet Kray is thought to have had certain narcissistic tendencies and she transferred them to her sons. Her specialty was silence and that's how she wins the respect of the male criminals around her in this film portrayal.

    • @@RobRIPDG They threatened the psychiatrist to lie so that Ron could be released. There's a scene prior to Ron's release where a thug working for the Krays visits the psychiatrist. There's also the scene after the hearing where the doctor gives the medication to Reggie to administer to Ron. This is narrative support for the fact that Ron was clinically insane. The doctor knew it, but lied because he was threatened with violence. Why is the doctor giving antipsychotics to a patient who doesn't need them? It wouldn't make any sense. The true answer, and the only logical explanation, is that Ron was insane. Reggie threatened the doctor to get Ron out. Reggie accepts the medication to give to Ron as a compromise because Reggie knows full well how sick Ron really is. Did you even watch the movie? You clearly remember the scene where he gets released from the ward. But not the scene directly before or afterwards? No wonder you're completely wrong. You're missing all the narrative context requisite in order to be right.

You can even see that mom was hesitant to touch him because either she knows how much he dislikes it, or she’s lowkey afraid of him, or both. I know if i was doing some shady shit, I'd never tell my friends and family out of respect for them. My fuck-ups are mine alone; simple as that. On the flip side; Ron was smart in going to his mom's place as it provides a good alibi (he's sick and needed someone to help him with some things while he recovers) and he also knows he'll be safe in case Reggie blows his top and tries to beat him up or something.
