The Wels Catfish are incredibly cool fish, and using a whopper plopper to find them is about the coolest way in the world to catch them!
This video shows some pretty cool action and 3 catfish being caught. It is a crazy feeling to see one rise on a big topwater bait!

  • Doing very interesting, productive, things on the mighty Ebro as expected.. I suspect that you had more investigate follow ups on the whopper than you could see in zero visibility.. A curious thing about that river when you look about you. There are no water birds!..Pretty much Zero activity! .Nothing swimming about, it's surface! Why?..because the catfish have eaten them all, even the swans and geese. The birds have learned to steer clear! So they are no longer accustomed to hunting top water prey activities ..like other rivers and lakes such as in those top water blow ups in other videos....that's my analysis based on my experience!.

  • To fish for these monsters you need a three piece, slim taper, heavy action, graphite coated, strawberry flavored, sissy stick. For a reel you need an Ambassador 785, 25:1, fast retrieve, with a dyno powered gag drag. Three miles of hundred pound, titanium line attached to a Mr Twister Motorized River Runt, with a smelly propeller, attached to three feet of spider eyed tape worm. All this gear is on clearance at a Bass Pro Shop near you. Just tell them Gizzard Dooley sent you.
