  • Having been born and raised in the Bronx, NY, this video could very easily be converted into an American English lesson if you simply replace the word "bloody" with one that begins with F (you know the one). The rules are exactly the same. For best results, don't pronounce the "g" at the end. Oh, and happy belated birthday, Aly!

    • @@papateachme I'm an old-fashioned girl so Sean Connery and Roger Moore are my favourite Bonds. As for films 'Live and Let Die' and 'The Man with the Golden Gun' are on the top of my list. Somehow Daniel Craig has never won me over as Bond. Don't know really why. Maybe his films were packed with too much action scenes. I love action films. My favourite action film is 'Hitman: Agent 47'. The man who was responsible for action choreography is a genius in my opinion. I would love to move like that.

  • Hi Aly. Great lesson and very well done video. Anyhow, I happened to read that the origin and etymology of the word “bloody” has nothing to do with blood itself, but it’s the result, say, the corrupted and eroded version of a very old religious phrase/swear word that’s “by Our Lady”. By repeatedly pronouncing that expression, the phenomenon of economy/erosion 11:16 - i.e. the tendency to save as much as possible without loosing too much or even nothing - a phenomenon also concerning languages, has transformed and contracted through time the old expression into the contemporary word “bloody”. I very much believe in this etymological explanation bcs it is always difficult if not impossible to connect and idea of blood with the following adjective or noun. It makes more sense to think of a interjection originating from a popular phrase. Thanks Aly and thanks for yr fantastic work.

  • Today is mild. I know bloody scorching days will come in the summer... Translating "bloody" like in my sentence, can be slang swearing, at least in Spanish. I've seen this intensifier in comedy and films (like Ron Weasley, from Harry Potter, saying "bloody hell!") showing surprise, but also in sad or serious scenes showing annoyance or disapproval. Now, I know I can bloody use it also with verbs! XD
