I love raccoons. I had a few as pets when I was little. I rescued babies several times over the years after their mom’s had died. When they got old enough they left on their own. They are so funny and smart. Never should be caged.
We are so blessed to share the planet with an incredible variety of wonderful animals

3:05. While in the Army and in the region near Panama, they have Growler monkeys. These growler monkeys used to watch the Military patrolling in the Jungle. They were so smart they actually mimicked our squads doing exercises and started picking up that behavior, and even carried sticks around as if they were weapons.

@@truthseeker6584 Chimps, and a lot of other monkeys are great imitators. What got us was we would be out on patrol and usually the point man would stop us and we would hide in the bushes and watch them. It was quite funny and we had to really maintain to keep from being noticed ourselves and laughing.

Pets are like small children. They: * have feelings just like humans * love to play * get into mischief * throw tantrums * want to eat your food too * love to be the center of attention * can get excited when going to see Grandma/Grandpa * can get excited to go to the park * can be stubborn and not listen * hate going to the Dr's (vet) * have accidents * go to daycare * can love/hate baths * wake you in the middle of the night ... just like a toddler. Did I miss anything? lol My only kids are my feline furbabies. :-)

Growing up my Dad had owned and operated a tree service. When he got contracts to cut trees out of power lines he often ended up on rivers, farm land ect. He would come across nests that had baby racoons, since he destroyed the nest and he was never sure if the mother would come back, so he left the babies and the next day they would be in the same spot and knew the mother came back, so he would bring the babies home and we nursed them till they grew up. At one time we had 27 babies, all lived and we had a farm full of the biggest characters you could ever imagine. One day we all left and someone didn't shut the front door, we got home and found the place had been destroyed, they got into everything, hid anything they could that was shiny and ate all the junk food they could get to, what a mess. We never kept them as pets we raised them since they were without a mother. We aloud them to be free and one at a time they went away. Those 4 or 5 years haven them racoons was some of the best memories growing up.
that's a pretty funny imagine in general, "the house of raccoons" but especially coming back to find they had ransacked the house (maybe funnier in hindsight ! ;-) ) .. thanks for sharing the memories !

In addition, I feel I should point out that raccoons, cute as they are, actually don't make good pets. When they reach a certain age they turn aggressive and have to be turned loose in the wild.
Christian Morrow my sister up north of Detroit has a farm with raccoons him but They would go into the cage is it night they would eat from their bowls that she sent down every morning and night. They were just like regular house pets
Not totally accurate,there was a man named John Roy that lived in my neighborhood that had a pet raccoon from time it was a baby til it was 13 years old and fat as I know never harmed anyone

We had a pet raccoon when I was growing up too. Every once in awhile he would run up the utility pole at the back of our property and refuse to come down. Hunger always brought him back inside though.

I love all animals. One time I went to a 7-Eleven around 11 at night in the summer back when there used to be payphones. Anyway I asked where the Payphone was they told me it was outside by itself so I go and I look and I see a raccoon standing up against the Payphone the receiver of the phone was hanging and it looked like he was making a phone call. It was the funniest thing I've ever seen up close in person.

To all of you people that say that humans shouldn't have these type of animals for pets you might want to know how they became pet's. I grew up in the country and a few of my friends including myself had some different type of pets than city people had. I had two racoons that lost their mother that got run over. They were probably two weeks old. We had to feed them with a eye dropper and after you take care of them for a year and a half their certainly not capable of living off the land. I also had a crow that had a wing that had to be amputated due to the damage from a trap. My friends had everything from fox to geese. Fortunately for our little town we had a country veterinarian that came right to your house to check on things and giving them shots and other meds. Always free due to his love for animals. So before you knock someone having a so called wild animal,ask yourself why.

I think taking care of an injured handicapped animal or an orphaned baby animal is different than just having a pet it's very commendable for anyone that does something like that

I do agree that people can have them as recovery animals but many do not. Monkeys, raccoons, lions and upward. Rescue, all good, but pet? I don’t think a wild animal can be called a pet
Main reason; as you pointed out, is humans handicapped said ‘pets’; who then we Forced to depend on humans for survival! Wild animals, instinctively; stay way from predatory humans unless, they long to BITE your face off! St. Francis humor!
