Russian heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko will vie for the Bellator MMA title following a dominant, first-round finish over Chael Sonnen on Saturday. Sonnen joins Ariel Helwani and Gilbert Melendez to talk about his loss and explains what was going through his mind when he was curled up in the fetal position on the floor, as Emelianenko dropped hammerfists from the top.

I agree Chael isn’t a super elite talent but he still beat Prime Anderson Silva up for 4.5 rounds before he choked (pun intended), beat Shogun, beat Bispjng. He’s definitely a fighter even though his mouth is worth more than his skills

    • After re watching the fight, Chael could've easily jumped up and went off on the ref for stopping it, because as bad as it looked, none of those final punches were landing, but he made a quick second decision, to put the overall events success, over any kind of controversial ending that might leave the crowd unhappy. It was a selfless and humble act that will more than likely go unnoticed. Love em or hate em, his stock just skyrocketed in my book.

The only reason people join lodges and such around here is to have a place to get drunk for free while living in a dry county. I used to deliver pizzas to them when I worked at Pizza Hut in high school. The whole place was just one tiny room full of chairs and an alter and then a big ass room with a bar with two huge card tables in the center of the room where they played poker. Good tippers too.

There was nothing respectful about that. I mean he basically started this. It´s just that he had more wit in his comments, it wasn´t as malicious as McGregors. And once the camera´s were off, he snapped out of it. No trolleys, no Colvington cringeworthy postfight interviews.

You guys saying he shouldn't be reacting this way after a loss and should be more devastated have to understand that both of these men are legends, whose careers are basically over....You have a well past his prime legend competing at a weight class he doesn't belong in, against the greatest heavyweight of all time who should have retired 5 years ago...... They are both not fighting or training with the same hunger as someone who is still making a name for themselves. Both of them combined have about 4 DECADES worth of professional fighting experience...... It's more for the love of the sport now than it is to go out there and try to prove yourself...... They aren't fighting for your affection or money anymore, put it that way.... I think Chael's response to all these questions was perfect. Stylistically, Fedor was just a horrible match up for Chael, that's all.....

    • He may not be the best, but nobody can deny that he has fought the best..... You don't have to beat the best to be a legend in the sport.... You just have to have had a major impact to some degree. Note: Aside from Tito back in the day, Chael was the first guy to take trash talking to the next level and understand marketing. Conor is not just a fighter, he's a product..... And that product hinges on what Chael already did.

    • Oh, I think Chael's great. But you're making my point for me. His trash talking and marketing and involvement in the sport are legendary. His fighting is not legendary. It's just not. He lost too many fights. Because he fought people who were legendary fighters and he was not. His best fight may have been against Silva, and he was juiced and fined and suspended. Great promoter. Average fighter.

    @liamsavage1468@liamsavage14685 жыл бұрын
    • Chael didn't see any of the punches, because the first one he didn't see and it definitely stunned him for the rest of the fight. Fedor hits like a bear. But his head movement and body angles are very good too, the way he switches his head position when he throws his left and right his head is in to very different positions and he's coming in at very excellent angles. Most people think fedor is just throwing crazy swings but his boxing is very very good he is very aware of how to throw a punch and to know where his opponents punches will be coming in at the same time.

He just turtled despite 90 percent of Fedor's gnp landing on his forearms. It's like he said on his podcast, in Japan the other guy wouldn't know you were going to throw the fight.
