Really disappointed in the comments I'm reading here. Michelle is a martial artist, a mother, a wife, top ranked UFC fighter, Invicta champ, and overall great person. Give her the respect she deserves.
Lol no disrespect bro but you kinda should have seen this coming
Shane you are right. She is one of the best martial artists to step in the octagon. I apologize for my comment. I was starting to get a little worried when she was kicking the pad you were holding. I thought she was gonna BREAK ONE OF YOUR RIBS.
@2:00 you was looking too dawg dont trip
Michelle is attractive, but damn this is a martial arts channel u guys need to chill and learn some side kicks.
I'm confused. I haven't seen anything really outlandish, disrespectful, or unexpected. Just some jokes and compliments?
From 144p videos in your school yard to videos in your own gym with a top 10 ufc fighter, unreal Shane you're an inspiration 👏👏
The secret is no secret at all: it's all about consistency. And thank you all for the continued support -- I'd still be uploading videos in 144p without it 😋
2:15 I love that she immediately just wants to kick it!
I wanna kick it with her too

Haha yeah it’s like instinct from soo much training they see a pad and just want to kick and punch it .

It's AWESOME to see her explaining her mechanics and showing how to transition the core mechanics taught in traditional kicking training into live combat/combat-sport application! Watching her in UFC 229 was pure art. Thank you so much Shane!
Shane I've been watching you for years, and now that I see you making videos with one of the best martial artists on the planet its a truly inspiration for me,Iam really happy about you!🤗🤗

Her performance in UFC 229 was absolutely astonishing
Agreed, absolute clinic. Kicks, throws, and those elbows from the ground! One of the best performances I've ever seen.
I'd seen her fight before but after UFC 229 I became a huge fan. I haven't seen too many people utilise the side kick like a jab that way since Bruce Lee. Awesome to see it work in the octagon.
True, I actually had Herrig for the win in that bout, but Waterson took the clean W in that one.
I disagree I like Michelle Waterston dont get me wrong but Felice was on a bad end of a decision and it was far from her best performance. Her best imo was the Vanzant fight.

I've practiced different Martial arts my entire life. I appreciate what you and Michelle stand for! Thanks for taking the time to make this video, it's great
Hello Shane, Congratulations for making this channel so big and good that you've managed to get Michelle Waterson to make a video with you. I'm also happy about her taking the time to film with you, as she has most likely a very busy schedule - but then again this just tells how much good things you've done for the martial arts community and how cool and down to earth she is. Just awesome. Thanks!
Love this video. Let's get Adesanya in here some day perhaps?
That would be sick.
That would be great

This is awesome. Great insight from all of your guests and yourself Shane. I hope you keep growing and stay humble my friend.
Great martial artist and great teacher, I will try to apply these tips tomorrow in the gym because I always backs up when I throw my sidekicks Thank you Michelle and Shane
Appreciate this great video, Shane. Michelle is clearly expert with the LLSK (setups, options, integration). Loved seeing her mixups late in the video. Thanks to you both for the great content!
Always awesome Shane, So cool that you actually get these fighters to actually demonstrate with you.
She was one of my first crushes. And she's a legit martial artist. Legend!

Yesss! This is so dope champ! This just made my day bro. 💯🔥
Yo this is amazing. I'm so glad you're channel has reached a status where a champ from the biggest mma organization has now been involved. Congrats man you deserve it. Crazy awesome!
Same happens to me! Always been right handed but find it easier to use my right side kick as a jab when southpawing, so I change guard often. Also you gave interesting insights on how to use the kick to nullify MT's usual counters to roundhouse whiffs. Will definitely try it. Cool stuff, Michelle.
This is an awesome video. Michelle is one of my favourite fighters. Great fighter with beautiful energy.
Great to see this technique broken down! As a former sanshou practitioner, the lead side kick was drilled like it was a jab for us. Glad to see it being used more often now in MMA
So happy to finnaly see this video ! I've been following your channel and Michelle for some time now, and im really happy to see a colob between you guys ! Great video and thank you for the content !

This video was badass. I've always been looking for a place for that lead leg side kick in sparring and most of the time they see it coming a mile away. I'm going to grab some of this and practice first with my coach before getting in the ring and trying it because, well, that's how you eat shots. Thanks Michelle!

Awesome video Shane. Growing up taking tkd, I have always been partial to the side kick. Find myself utilizing it in muay thai often these days. Michelle's form is as perfect as it gets
Been waiting for it since I saw the Instagram video 🔥🔥🔥🎊🎊

I love Michelle. Been following for quite some time and she's a great teacher. Glad to see her shown some respect. Great following both of you.
Great video! I love kicks so I was excited when I saw this.
I do think it's important to point out, for all us non-professionals, that's it's important to master the basic step-across side kick (the typical martial arts side-kick) in order to then move onto doing it all in one motion. If you go straight to this variation, it may come out often enough in training, but having it ready in a fight you might mess up and misjudge range/timing.
I don't think that is the hardest part of the side kick. I'd say the hardest part is after you have chambered your leg, when you go to extend it, to also involve your torso. They didn't really cover it here, but Joe Rogan has some video's where he covers it (for GSP and Brian Callen). The nice thing about this video is they talk about doing the foot step behind at the same time as chambering your leg (not separate movements). So the kick is overall quicker.
Senseless Nonsense In American TKD we called this a sliding side kick. I personally used it to create space more than anything. Where the side kick shines for me is as a way to knock the wind out of a wildly charging opponent. Step offline then drive the kick into the ribs.
She is super talented. Love watching the technical strikers compete.
Great technique and really learnt so much. I haven't trained in martial arts in years but I try to stay flexible and practice my techniques.
I'm really impressed with the questions you ask. Stuff that I wouldn't think to ask that after you did I immediately knew I needed to know. Great job guys

Clean side kicks from practicing basics of chambering eventually with speed replacing front foot with rear executing the front side kick. Thanks for sharing.
AMAAAAZING!!!!!!! From the good old FT days of shadow boxing and throwing hay-makers with Ant! Now we are discussing techniques and strategies with the Karate Hottie herself and potentially other renown fighters and trainers. Very impressed mate! From over the pond!
Love the “combos” at the end. It showed how the kicks can be blended with wrestling
I know I haven't met either one of you but I'm a bit starstruck seeing the two marital artists I look up to the most in the same video blows my mind, you two have both inspired me to get into Martial Arts and everything I have so far is from you two , I do not know if Michelle Waterson will see this but I just want to say Thank you to both of you
Great video. I really enjoyed how Waterson breaks everything down and enjoyed the questions Shane asked.
That kick was always my best weapon; from southpaw also most of the time. If you are fast enough with it, it's intimidating because it can strike so high but isn't so simple to block. It really is the jab of kicking, but it's a jab that hits like a sledgehammer. I have, when my kick was jammed, just lifted a charging opponent off the ground with it and thrown them backward -- if you are on balance with your back foot planted, it's not even that hard to do. Fantastic kick for those with fast feet and strong legs... much better than snap kicks, which have more limited power. Funny to hear that she uses it a lot because she is small. I am average height with longer legs and shorter torso/arms, and for me it was a way to avoid throwing hands also. My bad punching range makes close quarters a bit awkward. I always used the threat of kicks and knees to control range, and kept my hands up for defense rather than punching much. She's a sport fighter, so she doesn't think/talk about the primary combat use of this kick. It attacks the kneecap and knee, not the thigh. They throw at the thigh because of sporting rules, to avoid permanently crippling an opponent -- it's considerably less effective there, and arguably not worth it unless you have a very fast side kick. It's good to learn to throw it quickly with either foot, and from any position rather than just certain set stances. Openings can be ephemeral. You see the side of the knee and hit it almost on reflex... similar to how a low snapping roundhouse is thrown to the thigh in sport fighting. There's a little hopping sidekick I never see people use that was effective for me. It's the same sidekick that she demonstrated, but is thrown just as you switch to southpaw. From a traditional boxing stance, you sort of pounce to your left as part of circling your opponent. Instead of maintaining stance, you switch to southpaw and immediately throw the sidekick if you have a target (which you often will). Your opponent will almost always be adjusting their own stance to meet you, so they won't be backing away or rushing in. Their feet being slightly out of position can set you up for a kick to the leg or body. I have landed a few to the face, but it's harder because you have much less range as you start kicking above your hip... I would not advise people to throw any high kick unless you are 100% sure the opponent isn't ready for it, but if you do then a side kick is the kick to throw since it leads into a tumble away from your target. With other kicks you can lose your balance more easily throwing that high.
Michelle's one of the few karate practitioners left in MMA besides Wonderboy. You don't see kicks of that caliber much in the UFC. In a sport dominated by wrestling, ju-jitsu and ground and pound it's good to see.
Excellent! I've been hit by Chelle's sidekicks a few times growing up and they feel lovely, especially right in the sweet spot of the sternum or liver. She did a great with explanations and quick demonstrations of follow up techniques and combinations off a sidekick. Been recently watching your channel, Thank You for your content and martial arts spirit @fightTIPS!
Awesome video, very nice breakdown of putting the mechanics together in one shot, something I've not really done before - having chambered the leg and turning the hips separately, will try it in one go now! Oss!
Last two performances were amazing from Michelle. One of the most impressive fighters in the UFC with her size disadvantage
Shes really impressive as a fighter, I love the fact that she took an art that a lot of people disrespect. For not being effective and proved them wrong.
Love this fighting style. Thank you for the video.
Thank for the video! I actually learned a lot from this video. especially the timing and which part of the foot you use when kicking.
Doing taekwondo I learned a lot of kicks. But once I started to get them memorized due to muscle memory I also messed around and started to kick this way but people said it was wrong and so did my instructors but it literally worked for me. And it was actually easier for me and faster for me to kick in that way ngl
The surprise factor in her kicks is fantastic.
Very instructive and intuitive, so nice to see fighters sharing those kinds of tips.
Awesome video. I've just got to waist height on my side kicks.. looking on in awe at that head height side kick in the beginning! Never thought about popping that kick back with the same leg once you've missed a roundhouse, will try this in sparring next time. Thanks guys.

I love using the side kick. Before I thought t was weird that I’m an orthodox guy but kick fast from southpaw with this kick, but after watching this, I guess it’s normal. I almost always find success throwing out a stiff jab or a double jab followed up by a sidekick to the body. It either forces them to block high and expose their body or leave the head unguarded just long enough for me to throw a 2 instead of a sidekick. Great video Shane
