Storyline:
An old working class man named Cec stumbles upon his favourite footy star come gambling addict, Ben "BK" Kelly, at the end of his shift. Taking pity on the one-time local legend, who he admired for his on-field fortitude, Cec offers to take the now homeless Ben home for the night where he resides with his single-mother daughter and fellow footy tragic, Terri.
Reviews:
"What an inspirational and Powerful film about ordinary people with the ability to have extraordinary lives. It is one of the only Australian films I have seen with a hopeful ending and everyone came out so impressed by the high standard set by the writers, producers, cast and crew.
So many amazing performances and the script is so real and poignant. We found ourselves laughing and crying and sharing moments of Australian culture. It should do well overseas too as people have the opportunity to explore the wonderful story of a washed up footy player surrounded by people who want to support him to find his path to happiness.
A fabulous film !!"

  • Addiction of any kind will take an individual to an early grave. But not before stripping them of their values, friends, family, and anything that can be taken to the pawn shop for what becomes the unending need for money. Only G-D's grace can set you free. I know!!

  • I’ll watch this movie some another time because I am “broke” myself right now and been fighting my own battles for more than a year now doing my best to keep a smile so I don’t need something to weaken me during this time of trouble but like I said I will revisit God willing when all is good. 👋🏻 I wish you all health and prosperity!

I remember a guy named Barry who I found next to an ATM asking for money, he ended up driving for me for over a month while I kept him in our hotel suite with his own room and he and I had an awesome Thanksgiving in Charlotte NC, he vanished after my ex somehow got to him, no clue where he is now but wish I had trusted him and not her.

  • Excellent movie. Let us remember how easily/innocently one can become addicted = there, but for the Grace of God, go I. My sister died in my arms from cancer in 1991 - the shock & trauma of her death had the doctor put me on tranquillizers. And for the next 9 years I was a tranquillizer addict - quitting was one of the hardest things I've ever done.

Now I'm thinking Ben goes jail and doesn't come out like his son and the dudes hearts broken twice or Ben gets out and continues his life happily where it was. Time to watch the end

That's the reason why he drink alcohol and gambled so much so as to avoid being BROKE as a legend and escape from the realities of this world to that of his own world.🤔 What an Aussie film of it's kind, period.

  • This movie is great. It’s funny, educational, personal, social, and very entertaining. There are seven legal Native American gambling casinos within an hour of where I live, and they suck the life blood out of the community, create nothing but poverty and misery, and many caregivers waste all their money and time at these bloodsucking casinos. The poverty at the Native American reservations is worse because only a small group get the money, and the rest get nothing. There’s nothing good about the gambling industry. Unless you own the machines, because even if you set them at 95%, and it’s all rigged in favor of the house, it means that 95% of the money comes back to the house, out of every dollar that goes into the machine. All the other games, they all end up losing so much money, it could fund every single social program in the state of California, but instead it goes to organized crime, and a small group of people. Destroys lives including and especially the lives of the families and children of these people who waste their money money

It sucks 2 billion dollars a month out of our local economy , The owners live out of state ,so goes the money. Drug's and theft have made the small city dangerous. Many unsolved murders .lots of homeless . I hate it . Ont that many jobs .

    • Your comment is more disturbing than the movie, much more. I did not know the truth behind. The demagogues relying on our ignorance. This is how they lie to us - quote: "Indian casinos were established to assist the tribes. Casinos were seen as a way to offer employment to people living on tribal lands, where unemployment is traditionally high. As time has passed, many Indian casinos have become a successful long-term economic venture, with clearer visions for establishing independent sources of revenue for the tribe. " "Commercial casinos stimulate economic growth within a state. They contribute to the tourism industry and raise the state’s profile within gambling circles. They can help revitalize run-down neighborhoods or serve as the final piece in an economic development package. "

    • Extremely rare these days. Too much Kindness, been taken for weakness...... kind people get SCREWED OVER including ending up dead. Steady encouragement and advice is all most can and are willing to do...

    • Yes they do. By the grace of God, a woman and her husband did everything they could to keep me out of prison and above ground. I am 15 months clean and sober thanks to 2 people who put their life on hold to save mine. 💜

  • Okay, thanks first for the upload my friends and for bringing this film to my attention! Did it grab this critic and pull me in right away? No. Was there enough interest to hold me before turning the other cheek? Yes! Is it worth watching? Absolutely! Well written and directed and worthy of being award winning and here's why...it's relatable. A hometown legend falls into a pit of disgrace after throwing some games so the gamblers would profit and they loved him for it until the circle was revealed and then they turned their backs on him and Terri and her father gave him a second and third and fourth chance and so and so on...they loved him for who he was and that was human and humane. To err is human, to forgive, divine. We are not judge and jury for we all have that nature to sin and sin again and no one can pass judgement unless you are perfect so think about it to anyone that trashes this film...what are your deepest darkest secrets? My rating 100 out of 100 and I have never given a rating like that. See you on the flip side!

  • "Happy people are so weird". Something to remember. Something to ponder🤔. Happy people weird?...when it should just be normal. What do you do when you see a weird, happy person? Smile?? [with the exception of those who 🙄shake your head in.....(fill in the blank)]. I suggest smile inside at the least. It takes way more muscle to frown. 🖖
