Audi, then Volvo, not much later VW used them and, the car and motor nobody ever seems to remember. The Acura Vigor...the mid level model that was essentially a slightly stretched Accord with a longitudinal straight five cylinder engine. It was replaced by the TL

If you can find a 1992- 1994 S4 or a 95/96 S6 you will surely enjoy it. I have a 94 S4 and I chipped and and put a performance exhaust on it. It is a great car and I have been replacing parts the last 4 years. Most of the original parts lasted. 25 years. I still have the original clutch. I think you could get a nice one for $10k.

Completely agree! Nothing like the pleasure of a manual gearbox to give the driver more control. The shifts may not be as quick, but a very worthwhile compromise.
The 8j TT-RS had the option of the MQ-500 manual gear box. The simple fact of the matter is DSG is quicker.
RS3 8P had the 6 speed as well. Just tune a 8P RS3 and it's up to par with the newer ones if they were manuals.
MrZyLeXx interested know where you have seen an 8p RS3 with the MQ-500 gearbox instead of the DQ-500. Not a single one left the factory a manual gearbox.
Here in sweden we have a few im pretty sure, driven the first gen TTRS with the 5cyl as a manual. I might be wrong though but im pretty sure i've seen them. Throw me under the bus if im wrong.
aaaaaahhh. My dad once had a 5 Cylinder with upgraded internals and twin turbo ahhhh miss it so much. Sadly it got stolen and used in many robberies. The result was a total melted S6, they had burnt it up by the docks. I don't get way police don't check places like that. like every mafia film burns a car under the bridge or by the docks. Hint hint... 400hp 3.9sec S6 rest in peace :( you will always remain one of my favorite engines in my heart i WILL AVENGE YOU!

Gave me goose bumps. Bought my first Audi in 1981 The Audi Coupe with the 5 cylinder and Quattro drive. Forty years later and six Audi's I'm still in love. I have three. My 1997 APR A4, 2016 SQ5 and 2018 RS3. Apart from my truck i wont own another brand.

I miss the 1-2-4-5-3 sound, I had them for years, but my quattros now have V8s in them (and one big VR6). Makes me want to get B3 sedan and build a 2.6L 7A for it.
I own several Audi 5 cylinders Including 3 1987 Audi GT's. People look at them when they hear me coming or playing in a curve. I love all of them and still have the first Audi I owned a 1984 Quattro sedan that I hope to bring back as a driver before I die. Nothing else sounds like the 5 cylinders even today.
This video makes me realize just how special this engine is. That's why I can't wait to get an RS3 next year. Just to make things even more special, I want mine in Nogaro Blue

I miss my technically legal European model MK1 Audi TT with a 5 cylinder swap. I also gave it QUATTRO AWD and a later model spoiler on the hatch. Mine was bright blue and had Audi Ronal OEM Snowflake wheels.

Yeah, I don’t see that happening. No business model for it. When they ran before the Killer B class, which they pretty much created, was still around. Those monsters are gone. Audi has moved up market with cars and racing as well. Completely dominating the 24 Hours of Lemans how many years in a row? Even when Bentley one those were really just open cockpit Audi’s. Not even Subaru or Mitsubishi run WRC factory teams anymore and VW has been walking away with the series with the Polo. No room and no reason for Audi to drop back onto the dirt and gravel now.
@Dean McAndrew They're not in the WRC they withdrew, they only sell R5 cars for customers who want to use them. As far as the official team, it doesn't exist anymore.

This video was the reason I flew up to Sacramento. I just had to get my hands on a 1993 URS4 and boy what a blast it was to drive home. 400miles and not a single problem. Audi is more than a manufacturer. Its a lifestyle that I'm thankful to be a part of.

@@dishy2304 well lambos aint what they used to be they are now drivable and practical which i hate. The murcielago is probably the best lambo as it was designed by lambo and mid way vw bought them and added in some of that common sense so you get the best of both worlds.

Audi Quattro S1 engine is the best engine sound I ever heard in any car and I say with confidence that that's the best engine sound in the history of combustion engines.
I am 21 years old, my first car is an audi a4 b5 1.8 t, until the end of my days I will be with the audi brand and I will never leave it.

So with just some research the average yearly wage in the early 70's was $50,000+. The Audi 5000 costed around $49,000. It also had 160ish HP, and cars around that era had low 100 to the bigger motors having a reported "300hp." So for the money you where getting a not only luxury, comfortable car, and afordable car, you where getting a competitive car, and with how easy it is to work on because of it's size you could tune in anyway you see fit, and im more then sure get another easy 100hp out of it and could have smacked novas all day long with it. Audi did, and still knows how to make cars.
Zack Hines audi is no longer affordable. It is premium brand and coś like one. They put those engines in a familly saloon and now you have to buy an rs3 to get one which is not cheap.

not bad, the editor should have paid more attention, showing IMSA 90 during the Trans Am section and showing two different car interior shots during the Pikes Peak segment.
In 1985 I was seven years old, me, my dad and our neighbour stood in the freezing cold at the Special Stage "Mangen" of the WRC Swedish Rally. It was dark, and when the sound of the first car approaching our spot could be heard my dad says "here comes the Audi!". I was like "How do you know it's the Audi dad?" [the Sport Quattro S1 to be precise], he said "No other car in the world sounds like that!", sure enough, the Audi drove by. The next year, 1986, we where back in the freezing cold, but this time, I knew what to listen for, I could pinpoint the sound of the Audis [sadly, the Sport Quattro S1 didn't compete in the Swedish Rally that year, but a couple of Copués and 90's showed up] approaching. As Stuck, Röhrl and the others said in the video, the sound of the I5 Audi is THE best sound in motorsport ever. Such emotion! Bonus! I also got to see the Citroën BX4TC in '86 Swedish Rally, Citroën's failed bid the Group B era.
Makes me kinda proud to own the b2 coupe 1.8gt.
I gotta say without the Audi 5000 there could be no s series model's, a series models and q series models.

Welp, it finally came in. 2019 Nardo Grey RS3 FULLY LOADED! 67k. Unfortunately I’m having to baby it for the first 1k miles, so can’t rev over 4600. Still feels super fast, but can’t wait to unleash the QUATTRO! 0-60 in 3.5 seconds is super car fast in the form of a compact luxury sedan! I can’t get enough of this car!

Hope Audi continues to develop the Inline 5 engine even in light of downsizing. Sure V8 & V6 could be slowly phased out, but let that I5 live on.
This was and still is one of my dream cars and every saturday afternoon i would be glued to the TV, i loved off road rallying,but could Audi beat off the competition of to day? we will never know?
