Jerusalem is a place we have known about since before we can remember. It was a surreal experience walking the streets of the Old Town today, but it was also emotionally draining for many reasons. We explored as much as possible in one day including the Temple Mount, the Western Wall, Via Dolorosa, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Mount of Olives, and of course, we ate some delicious local foods. But for some reason, this place wasn’t like we pictured it being.
Israel is a very complicated place, so here are some of our favorite KZheadrs who explain the history much better than we can:

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the #travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this #travelvlog to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! So we extended our 1 year trip to now FOUR years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

  • Kate and Nate... A video you were so nervous about making is, in my opinion, one of the best you have ever put out. I have led five pilgrimages to Jerusalem (one is never a tourist but a pilgrim in the Holy Land) and I must say that you both showed the raw emotion and spiritual awareness that this great city brings. You did a wonderful job of showing the intersection of Islam, Judaism and Christianity. On my first visit to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre I felt exactly the same way you did and was told to do exactly what you suggested - return early in the morning - and the experience was totally different and caused me to look at the scriptures and my faith through new eye glasses. Very well done!

I’ve been watching your videos a little less than a year and have been crossing my fingers SO HARD that y’all will go to Israel. Your videos there have been so good - you were so honest and authentic in your experiences, and I’m sure there’s so much more you may have not even fully processed yet. My sister and I both remarked on y’all’s comments about how different your experiences at the Wall were, and that’s almost always how it is for us too!! Additionally, I love that you said you’ll never read your Bible the same way again. It’s truly life changing. There is also no doubt about the fact that Christian concepts and ideals were some of the driving forces of the enlightenment period which directly lead to the great prosperity we see today in Western countries that have a Christian heritage (US, Canada, UK, Australia, France, Spain etc). Meanwhile countries that banned Christianity (and all religion) like the Soviet union, Communist China etc etc have been guilty of the worst genocides and mass killings in the world's history, in the 20th century alone Godless communists killed over 100 MILLION innocent people (100M!!!) ... many more people have died at the hands of communism, atheism and other godless ideologies than at the hands of Christianity (which as I mentioned is the basis for our prosperity today).

Why does everybody have A strong polarizing opinion, positive or negative? Do some research on the history of this place, and be amazed at how it even exists today. The Israeli community is not the one who controls the rockets; not the police who so violently barricade mosques and Muslim holy sites. Calling the Israeli community bad is like saying Muslims are bad because of ISIS. Don’t hate the communities and citizens, fight against the Governments pulling the strings and corruption; misunderstandings of religions and hate.

To me who fancies himself half a local, it's always great fun and joy seeing other people's reactions to it, of re-experiencing the raw emotions that come with being in this place for the first time. Do come back and explore more of that country, because you literally never run out of new corners to visit. P.S. PS: Many Arabs and Muslims live in the area, no one wants Muslims to suffer, the US has actually tried to help us achieve deals with the Muslim countries that surround us, but most are not interested

  • That is what Jerusalem does to people. It’s hard to think clearly because of the extraordinary spiritual energy emanating from that space! It takes time to calibrate your physical body and your soul when you are there! I love her so and I miss her when I am away from her. Luckily I get to be there most summers. Thanks for the vlog.

  • My sister and I got to spend a week in Israel. We visited so many sites. It was overwhelming. We even got to see the tomb of Christ and also see where the angel came to Mary and told her she was pregnant. We took a tour to the dead sea and the sea of Galilea. Went to where Jesus was Baptised. Just an overall amazing and overwhelming experience. I recommend it to everyone!

  • Hi Kara and Nate. I hope that you will somehow see my comment. I've discovered your channel after your amazing videos visiting Israel, and have been following your journey ever since. The last few days in Israel have been devastating to all of us here, and we really need everyone in the world to know what had happened this terrible Saturday in Israel. If you will be willing to share the stories of what happened to innocent Israeli citizens the past week and support Israel, and share it with the rest of the community following you, it will mean so much to me and to many others here in Israel. I hope some day peace will come to all the people in our area, but first we must have the world's support!

    • What you’re meant to say is.. you hope peace will come to ALL! Not just Israel but the people of Gaza too. By the way.. Kara and Nate have turned a blind eye to the genocide happening in Gaza, so I doubt they’ll share anything regarding Palestine and Israel.

  • I live vicariously through this video. Thank you for sharing. It was significant for aspects of history of Jesus. I cannot thank you enough. The crowd and craziness is similar to how an experience would be in Makkah by the way. It’s a mixture of spirituality. And cameras, and tourists. But none the less, a surreal experience.
