Still better design than the ps5. Ive realized its better to focus on function over form after building pcs. Theres a reason the series x runs almost 30 degrees cooler than the ps5. This uses natural convection and a fan. Ps5 uses a fan to go against natural convection.

Disc-less consoles will be obsolete in 2 generations when they shut down servers and/or reallocate resources to newer stuff and users have to resort to hacking games onto them. We've already seen how this plays out, look at the PSP Go.

Nothing stopping them from buying the original Series X if they care for using Blu Ray’s. It’ll be just like the PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition. It’s just an option that’s there for people who want Series X level performance at a cheaper price, and don’t care for using physical media.

to me the three biggest tenets for consoles are: low entry price for hardware (compared to a pc that can play games identically), ease of use interfaces for controller navigation while sitting on a couch, and playing media off physical formats, removing one of those is a cardinal sin to me

I thought about buying an Xbox. No disc Drive. No purchase. Oh well. Why don't they make like an external drive purchased individually?
Not even a decrease in size. I remember seeing an interview with some Xbox engineer, the disc drive influenced it's size and that it could be smaller, but I mean this just doesn't make much sense.

I only buy games on disk. No optical drive also means I can't watch my movie collection on it. If xbox continues in this direction the Series X will be my last Xbox console.

The thing about PC is that you have WAY MORE CONTROL over your digital games. Consoles give you ZERO control over your digital games.

Could be a better experience. Companies want to sell you “No, buy my console version. It is the most perfect and wonderful experience you’ll found anywhere else”. To give us the ability to modify, it would admit the obsolesce of the console version. The reason I love the digital versions of physical games on Steam Deck, I can change control options while the Nintendo Switch restricts.. 😑
Things have changed so much I still have my 360 but afraid I won’t be able to use it much longer I still have unused game disks and probably won’t get any use it’s said to see Xbox going all digital and all the console designs are too werid now just like that of Sony versions I’m begging to wonder if it’s worth getting out of video games once and for all it was such a love of mine several years ago ect… anyhow.

I use my Xbox to mainly watch Bluray and DVD movies on. Without a disc drive, for me, it's not worth it.
What Microsoft should have done in the 1st place was have an all digital Xbox series x and a series x with a disc drive instead of the series s. Now the series s is going to be fazed out and will be just be the digital and physical drive series x

I have had a series s since 2021 and I was very interested in the cylinder brooklyn model when that was leaked. I just broke down and got the series x last week. Glad I did if the new box is gonna be a just a white same shape. I don't play any physical games but could use the DVD player for the rare times our family wants to play a disk.

The price will be interesting because the old leaks showed the price being the same, even though they removed the disc drive.
To be fair, the leaks from last year also claimed that the console would have multiple internal improvements. Such as improved WIFI, a 2TB SSD compared to a 1TB SSD, improved Bluetooth, and a new redesigned and improved controller. This new leak seems to just be a copy and paste of the original Series X which likely won’t feature any of the major improvements listed in the original leaks. So, it’ll definitely be cheaper. Probably similar to the PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition which was a $100 difference between the two.

Series S is meant to be a weaker console that's all digital. It makes sense that Microsoft would eventually release a Series X that's all digital too. As long as they don't stop selling the Series X physical version, there's nothing to complain about regarding the hardware options they're offering to consumers.

I prefer physical media. I think it would suck if they just phased out the optical drive all together since I want to not only buy my games on physical media, but if Microsoft phased out optical drives all together, that would mean all new games would be digital only and $500 is a lot to drop to be abandoned.

um no lol the real xbox was leaked in the xbox data mine earlier this year. its round like a cylinder and has a haptic controller, so what you're looking at is a dev kit shell being used on an old looking model of xbox.
