I cannot wait to break down this episode for you, all the hidden details, and explain what the hell is actually going on here. Plus we have a couple theories about how this episode gave us a big clue about how the season will end and set up avengers secret wars.
So welcome to our coverage of Loki. If you’ve watched us for a while, you know Loki is a special show for us-it's the show where a lot of you found us and helped us build this channel into what it is today.
First, let’s talk just a bit about the full marvel studios intro, which changes a bit with every MCU movie or show-but was missing from secret invasion. This new intro includes several shots from Endgame, Jane in Thor love and thunder, She Hulk, black Widow, and He Who Remains-and there’s no conclusion of the most recent Marvel projects from 2023, which is unusual.
Loki season 1 left off on this massive cliffhanger.
Doug: Oh yeah, what happened again?
Okay, very brief recap of the whole season. The Loki who stole the tesseract in endgame was arrested by time cps called the time variance authority-and it's their job to police the timeline and enforce the sacred timeline. They do this by preventing people from branching reality off into a different path. Loki befriends Owen wilson'’s m,obius, is recruited to find a female version of himself, they team up, reveal the TVA is built on lies-and that everyone working there is a variant who has had their mind wiped. [i have no memory of having my mind wiped]
Loki and Sylvie fall for each other, then meet the man behind the TVA-a variant of Kang the conqueror we met in quantumania. He says that the sacred timeline only existed to make sure there were no variants of Kang the conqueror, and without him there will be a multiversal war that will destroy the multiverse. Sylvie kills him anyways, thereby creating the multiverse we saw in multiverse of madness, what if, spider-man no way home, and quantum mania.
Loki then returned to the TVA, where Mobius and hunter B15 did not remember him at all. Now we find out that the history of the TVA was not rewritten-Loki just arrived in the TVA’s past. Gonna explain that more later on.
The final shot of last season was the statue of Kang the conqueror, and so that is where this season begins. This is setting the scene for the entire season-it's all going to be about Mobius and Loki hunting down Kang. Which opens up the question of are they still doing what Kang wants-is their free will, and what the heck is actually going on here. I've got a theory about lang and the tva I'm pretty excited about, then I’ll go over a bit later in the video. Basically, I think we've already seen the ending of this season, in the forest episode.

This episode was incredible. Maybe im biased just coming off of ahsoka but man, it was shot beautifully, the loki and mobius banter, this was a step up from the other Disney+ shows IMO

imo ahsoka didn't have me on the edge of my seat like loki does. as much as I anticipated each new ahsoka epidode, I was always let down someway or another and yawn at points where with loki I always itch for more.
Can we please talk about how great Tom was in the War Room scene?! He made you *feel* the urgency of the coming war. It’s also cool to see Loki nearly pushed to tears trying to warn everyone about the coming danger, which lets me know that he is scared shitless. And this is coming from a guy who was hellbent on domination and seemed to be quite fearless.
Enjoyable to be back in the TVA. People are saying the episode was bad bc it’s basically an epilogue. How else are they supposed to link the seasons? Excited to see where we go!

It only feels like that if you have watched every season 2 trailer and theory, I think. People had picked the trailers into pieces so that we (or advertising apartment) kinda spoiled the first episode for ourselves. We got introduced to new characters in this episode, so it did "set the scene" where things are going to be happening, and people in TVA who will probably oppose our protagonists in future episodes

I think the fact that OB reconizes Mobius, but he does not, means that OB has not had his mind wiped in awhile. Mobius has and that is why hd does not remember him, but OB remembers Mobius
OB has probably never had his mind wiped, given he knows every detail of how to run to TVA
There’s a lot of Disney shows that feel like a little actual plot spread thin over their episodes like butter scraped over too much bread. This episode had a lot to take in. It wasn’t just a bunch of nothing with a minute here and there of actual plot, and it was really good. I hope this is the pace going forward. I can’t wait.
This was FREAKING AMAZING this episode was better than all of secret invasion lol also this should've been Kang's next appearance, keeping him mysterious and ominous would've been PERFECT. But it's okay this show made me feel goosebumps for Kang all over again!! I can't wait till next week!!!!!!!!!!

How I long for the 50’s to the 00’s when shows produced 20+ episodes per season. The history of the TVA, the characters, a gradual unfolding of where each character came from…Don’t tell me that a series about time travel doesn’t have room for all that
Ok. Ive got a real theory. In episode one, OB explains how Loki’s time slippage can be solved through the contraption they created. That device removes Loki from all timelines right? What if thats what they do to destroy all the kang variants in order to setup he who remains as the last and only kang variant. 🤔

I dont think thats how it works. Im going to watcb the episode again. But basically what ob told him was that with that device he would be purged from all timelines and then restored as the one and only loki. Its a reason the trailers show victor timely reviewing the exact same plan with mobius and loki. At the end of the day the series is going to end with 1 loki, mobius, sylvie, renslayer, and he who remains. They May be the final timekeepers/judges and then it will lead to the incursions of the multiverse with loki being the one who builds the rebooted universe same as tchalla/molecule man did in secret wars 2015. It’s a beautiful setup.
Along with that, i dont think victor/he who remains fights at all. I think he will be a true ally.
Loved the Chicken or the egg kind of thing going on with Loki Time Splitting in the past to talk to Ourobouros so he's ready when they show up in the present. This show is gonna be a headache and a half with time stuff going on and im here for it.

@@nealdiamond8513actually neither really came first. It's not like one day some proto-chicken laid an egg island it hatched a modern chicken. That's not how evolution works. In fact there isn't really a traceable point at all if you try to look at it from a generational standpoint. Look at humans our grandparents are humans, our 20x great grandparents are humans, but all mammals trace back to a certain lineage around 180 million years ago. If you try to tackle this paradox from said generational standpoint, you get just that, a paradox.

This might be a little heavy but the reason the styles of time travel are different is because the TVA is different. The TVA exists separate from the stream of time itself, which means that technically it shouldn't be possible to time travel at all there. But if you did, there wouldn't be alternate versions, so anything you did in the past would have to affect the future. This style of more 'simple' time travel was used in movies like Back to the Future because it was easier to understand from the audience perspective and was the accepted method of how time travel would theoretically work and the time. Since then, many different pseudo-scientific theories of time travel have come about, with the MCU adopting one of the more popular multiversal models which posits that its essentially impossible to change past events and if you traveled to the past it would just be in some alternate timeline entirely where those events had not yet happened. Basically the reason the two styles of time travel are different is because the TVA satisfies the impossible scientific conditions under which 'Back to the Future' style time travel could actually exist. It's not some plot inconsistency it's actually a careful attention to detail if anything.

I have a theory that time travel is like that in the TVA because time can’t branch there. The reason it can’t is because an apocalypse is coming that will wipe out the TVA and everyone in it. Using the logic we saw in season 1, there are no branches of if no one makes it. And based on the trailers, the TVA gets spaghettified. We might see the beginning of the TVA after this.
I had the same thought, it’s impossible to have branching timelines of the TVA

The "THX sound" was part of the music. Natalie Holt has been using similar cues in much of it since the beginning. You can hear them prominently in the main theme.
It also appears in s1 ep 6 at 8:20, just before the statues are discovered. :)

I love what this show is doing with the multiverse and the timelines. Quantumania should have had psycho man as the villain. I loved the inclusion of OB he fits well with the group. Hopefully this leads straight into Deadpool 3.
A character doesn't make something good. The villain doesnt matter. It's the writing
He remembers the past. Doesn't contradict the MCU time travel logic? Since the future and the past are like separate universes. So he wouldn't remember what Loki told him in the past. Because that was a different version of him Loki was talking to.

@markstriker925 TVA isn't a normal place space in time. It is outside the timeline, time doesn't branch there, and so you can remember the changes to the past.

That is not a sling-ring at 22:55, a sling-ring has two finger-holes. I think that is a Time Twister, the little device used to keep collared Variants under control.
I'm glad season 2 started off with high stakes since the Loki series tells the biggest story of any Marvel Disney+ series, I think it needed that. I'm also glad they got the Mobis rekindling his friendship with Loki thing settled quickly since this episode ends with them needing to save the other. It's really refreshing to see some of the TVA heeding Loki's warning about Kang and cutting through the TVA dogma. But I really like seeing how Loki is so anxious about his actions regarding the fight with Sylvie and the killing of He Who Remains and freeing the multiverse. It gives off the "I think I bit off more than I could chew." type of thing.
9/10 for me, they should’ve released episode 1&2 to start the season..But I’m glad they kept same opening melody..

I literally cried tears after seeing Sylvie pop up in the elevator to save Loki!!! I thought for sure it was going to be a Kang intro scene where he gives Loki some ultimatum to save himself or mobius who was not going to make it back to the TVA in time, before OB barricaded them in from the loom. But no, it was Sylvie (who in my head was sort of an evil character for causing all this chaos) and I was so happy to see her

Regarding the point of Loki time slipping to talk to OB and OB remembering the talk as he's talking to Mobius it is the second time we've seen that kind of time travel in the MCU the first being when Kamala went back in time and did the create stars for her grandmother as a child to follow thing.
I loved it i was laughing and crying at the same time after the episode.
Based on OB not seeing Mobius for 400 years and him being his last visitor. What do you think the possibility of OB being the only member of the TVA whose memory wasn’t erased? Would explain why he seemed to be the only one to know about the handbook that may end being super important. Which in turn would make OB a very important character and would give Ke Huy Quan a bigger role than the mail guy who knows things.

Ahh such a good episode . Quality marvel. I don’t remember seeing f first season had a lot of comedy , but I enjoyed the comedy in this episode , even if a knock on marvel is it’s over use of comedy in tense situations. This was done well, and it wasn’t cheesy. The elevator scene got me😂. Just so unexpected

So many things happening at the end: 1. A mysterious phone call. 2. A mysterious figure who pruned Loki. 3. Sylvie showing up from the end of time in front of Loki. This episode absolutely got me HOOKED.
I felt like there were a lot of intentional details in the closing credits like there were in Picard Season 3. Your review of those credits was very informative!

It’s funny you mention The Fantastic Four and X-Men, because there were subtle nods to both. The taxi Loki falls into at the beginning is emblazoned with a No. 4 and, since it flies, gives off a bit of a Fantasti-Car feel. And then the door to the Loom Room is not only shaped like to doors to Cerebro, they also include an X. Fun stuff!
When Casey was a janitor listening to music on a Walkmen, they shouldn't had Peter Quills soundtrack playing as we transitioned to the scene until he took off the headphones. Missed opportunity to reference that part of the MCU. Luke Cage referenced the MCU in episode 1 by having someone on the street selling footage of "the incident" that involved the Avengers. It would've been a mistake to simply have that vendor selling video footage of celebrity fights, just as it was a mistake to not allude to Peter Quills music.
Dude, the TVA freaks me out so hard. Just stuck working some boring ass office job for eternity. It's a Kafka-esque hellscape and it gives me the shivers...

I don't think you mentioned that the door that opens to the room showing the loom looks coincidentally just like the door in x-men that leads to Cerebro. That can't just be a happy accident of design.

This episode was fantastic ! Ouroboros is perfect, my new favorite character for sure. There is just a perfect slight touch of humor in everything, like the huge umbilical cord to his suit.

The X in the door they went through got me excited and giddy for absolutely no reason. I lowkey really hope we get a reverse House of M moment at the end of the saga where Wanda says the famous line but just slightly different, “no, more mutants”. And that’s how we’ll get our mutants introduced. I’d even suggest having the first class be a very clearly well oiled machine that has been around hiding in the the shadows of cerebro so they can be the saviors for all of the new mutants showing up in the world and not have to completely tell their story from the very beginning, we can leave that for a tv show or special or maybe just some good ol flashbacks.
That pan over was the funniest thing I could have seen. Phuping loved it.

Loved the episode, it was exactly what I expected, glad it is going to quickly step away from the tva headquarters and jump into time! But also, I’m really hoping that Disney+ has found it’s groove. I’ve loved all marvel and Star Wars content but I gotta admit that bobf, Mandalorian s3 and secret invasion were all pretty weak in their own different ways. But after ahsoka and with this beginning, I’m hoping we’re going into a (not better but) tighter time for Disney+ storytelling. (Gotta reiterate that I literally love all Star Wars and marvel content but there’s always room for improvement)

18:13 that was the single greatest detail of the episode for me. Setting a Bootstrap Paradox with OB's nickname. It is so meta since he is literally the Ouroboros, the snake with no beggining or end.

Best episode of Loki. One of the best episodes of Marvel television. The banter between Loki and Mobius was well written and acted.
Chemistry between Loki/Mobius is up there with the best of any 2 characters in MCU's history.
I usually come for the Star Wars content but the end of the "AHHH A TALKING MUFFIN" joke at the beginning has me immediately hooked! Keep up the great work, you got a fan for life here

I saw some repetition this episode from last season. I don't remember who but two characters said the same two lines "this means everything" and 'this means nothing" and you talking about the black hole reminded me of the opening sequence of season one where the camera goes through a black hole and there's another universe inside.

Also Time Slips was a marvel comic at one point based off of thier What If style reimagining of characters if they had different backgrounds or were given different powers. Was a fun little side project in Marvel Visions and formed universe 96111
