#Loki #EasterEggs #Episode2
This is my favorite kind of episode of a TV show. Characters are still reeling with the repercussions of the manic events of episode 1, as they're trying to figure out what to do next. But in moments like these, we get to see character relationships develop and grow.
In this episode we see that Loki and Mobius have a true friendship-and Liki still has feelings for Sylvie. We also see that he still doubts himself. Can he be the hero-or is there just always a villain lurking under the surface, waiting to be let out so he can hurt people? In a larger sense, the TVA is experiencing an identity crisis. Who are they now? What’s their mission? These questions are forcing the characters to decide who they want to be.
The episode is also field with the tiniest, most obscure references to the comics and other MCU stories-it was a real geek feast I’m excited to tell you about, so thanks for choosing this video, and as always thanks for supporting us and shopping our merch store, where we design the shirts ourselves. In celebration of Loki we have this variant hoodie with a screencrush logo, the usual variants police lineup, miss minutes dial clock, and Doug as Loki.
Doug: I did not consent to having my likeness used.
Shopping our merch store is the next way you can support our channel, thanks for watching, let’s dive in. We begin in London 1977-and notice the distinction that this is on the sacred timeline. Last week’s post credits scene made it clear that Sylvie is on a branching timeline-and now we know why. Elements within the TVA still see the sacred timeline as the only timeline that matters, and will only see some of the people on those timelines as variants-as less than. And of course this draws a connection to Loki, who always sees himself as less than-the little brother, the lesser of Odin’s sons. [avengers, I remember a shadow].
This mission is new for Loki-because Mobius has never been undercover before. Hw’s alway wore his normal suit, because he was always showing up to timelines before they were pruned. And notice how Loki-ever the showman-has chosen a tux with a frilly shirt. And at the premiere Natalie Holt gives us a 70s funk version of the Loki theme [clip].
So we opened at a movie theater-and it showed a lot of restraint on disney’s part to not have star wars posters everywhere, since this is the year a new hope was released. There is one fun star wars cameo in the lobby that I think they did with a deep fake, this is your mom. But these posters are my favorite easter eggs in this episode. First, this one is for Herbie rides again.
Doug: What's that?
Well it’s a 1974 sequel to the ‘68 movie the Love bug. In the sequel, a sentient car named Herbie saves a woman from being evicted by a greedy landlord. The thing is, there was a herbie movie released in 1977-herbie goes to Monte Carlo. And compared to Herbie rides again, it's bad. Herbie rides again tells a heartb=felt story about greedy capitalists forcing a woman from her home-which hey, parallels nickel with this episode, when the existing power structures of the TVA essentially destroy the homes of trillions of people on the branching timelines.
Herbie goes to monte carlo was about rich people car racing. A metaphor for how the counterculture movement of the 1960s gave way to the industrialized hyper-capitalist culture of the 1980s.
Doug: You got all that from a movie poster?

Seeing Loki and Mobius be good cop-bad cop with Brad being the guy who taunts both of them to see who strikes first was a real treat. I have to say seeing Mobius strike fist was something I didn't expect as he's usually so stoically calm, but it was really nice to see their friendship grow and see them plan out how to get Brad to break and tell them the information they needed. But Doc's plan was just a band-aid at best since we know that the multiverse still will happen with Deadpool 3, The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.

  • Dude! Key Lime is excellent pie. In fact, it is my favorite pie. Now, granted, the pie in the show appears to be more a jello pie than anything because real key lime pie is made with a graham cracker crust and the filling is more of a pale yellow (which anyone who has been to Florida would know -- particularly at Disney World, where they do make a pretty good key lime pie) but my first thought when I saw the pie in Loki was, "Not Key Lime pie, but maybe it's soylent green" which would fit in with the sci-fi dystopia theme of the show.

  • The Automat having only one kind of pie is a nice contrast to the McDonald's, which has a menu of many options. (including something "new" - the McNuggets) The Automat is green, while the McD's is yellow - Loki's colors. So those environments demonstrate the themes you were mentioning about determinism. In the Automat, despite how many choices there are, the outcome is the same. Is Loki fated to just be the villain? Is he stuck with that fate, or will he be able to make different choices, leading to another outcome? Also interesting that Mobius immediately orders the Apple Pie when he arrives - because it's not Key Lime.

  • You can tell Loki was turning on "Villain Mode" by his voice. When he talks with a little more gravel, a lower register, just a little more sharp, he's in Villain Mode. It's unclear if he did this intentionally the first time or lost it like Mobius, I tend to think it was intentional though. It was definitely intentional the second time when he went in to interro-torture X-5.

  • It's actually really interesting seeing this character driven episode, it plays out like a homage to old cop dramas, that its something strangely enjoyable to watch and appreciate the mundane in such a fantastical genre show! It's cool and almost surreal to see Loki as a suave James Bond kind of guy now, but I do love the moments where you do see the Hannibal Lecter currents hiding beneath the surface. The Dark Urge in Baldur's Gate 3 just lurking that if you push Loki too far, he will not hesitate to inflict max damage on you. Loki actually held it in pretty well and I was surprised that it was Mobius who lost it this time. That you can see that Loki has matured as a person that though he was taunted with his insecurities and failures, and he is a guy with some what arrested emotional development, he actually could take it. I mean, yeah he said that his breaking point was funnily enough, throwing Tony Stark out of the window, and he means that casually like as if its something normal people would do. But also credit to Tom Hiddleston having a ball doing the interrogation torture sequence. And Owen Wilson for just yeah being Mobius. It's interesting that Mobius is actually scared of seeing a good possibility, because he's so fearful it may turn out good and that he'll be sad, and want more and what's out there. So he rather not know. Like I always remember the line from Hellboy 'I sleep good not knowing'. The interaction between Loki and Mobius is such a cool buddy thing. I think they get on because they don't really judge each other and just accept. On the other hand, the interaction between Loki and Sylvie is yeah when you know its the 'lovers awkward', its cute. Because they both honestly really like each other but they're also really shy to say so, but its also a complicated relationship because they have very different ideologies. Loki's mindset has changed and evolved, that he understands why there needs to be 1 timeline, I mean yes, free will is cool but also there needs to be order to some degree, full chaos has no purpose. At least order has purpose. But he also doesn't believe in stupid unquestioning order, like forcefully blowing up timelines to preserve 1 timeline, like sure, last time he'd used to do that, but he understands and he's learned to think about other people. He could have been killed on a non-sacred timeline because he's a variant and technically shouldn't exist, but he's alive. Sylvie still wants to chill and do her own thing, but Loki is trying to convince her to support order instead of be her full chaotic self. But of course, her life experiences has traumatized her and she just hates the TVA period because of all they've done to her, ask her to fight for the TVA? Nonsense right? But I think secretly, it will reach a point she will get bored of living in her perfect 'barbie land' and she will have to face up to things and care about what's happening around her. At least they've fixed Loki's time slipping problem and he can interact normally. But yeah, I can see that Loki is actually quite liking this strange public service/ government kind of life. I mean we laugh at office life but he's taken an appreciation for the mundane. It's more relatable, more human, sure its not big, dramatic and over the top, sure there are still catastrophic issues, but there's something more humbling about it. • Loved this episode! I heard from some KZheadrs who previewed the first 4 early that this one wasn’t as good. But man, think about all the places and things they did in this episode. Felt like sooo much of the trailers have now been covered which is amazing bc it means we will be seeing soooo many new and surprising things still to come. The character interactions and acting are absolutely top notch. Kevin and team need to take note and see how they can achieve the same level of success with all of their other projects. This is top Marvel content AND there are no traditional superheroes to be found, which is the coolest part. I don’t think anyone would label Loki a superhero. Most of what he accomplishes could be done without his powers any ways! Can’t wait for more!

  • The sacred timeline can be observed from any time branches perspective as their own is their principle sacred timeline. I find this such an existential horror... The crazy reality is that no timeline or universe can ever be a MAIN universe. So when, Loki says in the first season, "It's okay, Nothing matters" This says sooo much. Everything matters and simultaneously doesn't matter. Wow I think I'm having an existential and nihilistic crisis of my own...🥺

Nowhere man, please listen. You don't know what you're missing."

  • My theory is, 1. After being defeated by Ant Man, Kang was sucked by the probability drive and transported to the 19th century, where he renamed himself Victor Timely and changed his purpose: to create one singular timeline. 2. Kang (as Victor Timely) then invents the temporal loom, but he only has 19th century technology, that's why TVA's design is rectro tech. (This is also the point of existence of the TVA) 3. Loki and Mobius visited Kang(VT) after he created the device. If you've seen the time travel short film Room 88, this is what's happening in Victor Timely's timeline from his point of view. 4. Ravonna Renslayer also went to Kang(VT). This is probably why she left Tva in Loki S1 (She was instructed by Miss Minutes, so perhaps this is something Ravonna must do, She was the fail safe). 5. Loki S2 Event (Loki's time loop, loki prunes himself to fulfill the loop) Ep 1 is actually Ep 7! 6. Kang (VT ) saw the upcoming events, the branching of timelines, the overloading of the temporal loom, and he realized he needed Sylvie and Loki together because he needed those moments to happen, he needed to be visited by these people to complete the loop. (so Sylvie was kidnapped later in time, and He who remains killed by Sylvie at the end of time that's why he who remains says "See you soon"). 7. Ravonna Renslayer was stuck in 19th century or maybe she's willing to join Kang (VT) in that time to help in creating and running TVA. 8. And then there's the time keepers era, the Loki S1 event, Loki and Sylvie at the Citadel, and so on, until it all happens again (Time Loop) *Meaning this is all part of the ouroborus. A time loop itself, and if this breaks, there will be multiversal war. I believe they have to lose for the events of Kang Dynasty and Secret War to happen. *There was an ouroborusception going on here, first with Loki's time loop, then Ravonna's time loop, Kang's time loop, Sylvie's time loop, and the main MCU's time loop. I don't know, what you guys think?

  • The one thing that I noticed (and am perplexed by) is that Loki is working with Mobius, B-15, etc. They want to let the timelines branch and be free, but Loki knows that doing so brings all the Kang variants and the next multiverse war. I feel like those ideals are eventually going to cause a rift between Loki and the TVA people

    @dillybar8546@dillybar85467 ай бұрын
