  • ".. when used correctly", That is correct General. A man behind the gun is much more lethal than the gun itself.

    • A tank used incorrectly can be even more lethal, especially to collateral civilians and property. Example: firing into a nuclear reactor through inaccurate aiming.

I know they trained their fighter pilots on western jets and there isn't even any talk of giving them jets, so NATO is very proactive about it. Of course, they need to train mechanics and engineers and other support and that might not have been done but it won't take many months. • Everyone should understand that this is only the first shipment of Western tanks for Ukraine, and this is not where the story ends. Early in the conflict, Ukraine received huge numbers of tanks, including 230 T-72s from Poland. The problem with these tanks is that if they breakdown, it is very hard to find spare parts, as they were made in Russia. Also, an unknown number of vehicles may have been destroyed in the course of the war, so one of the key aspects to keep in mind, is that it is not only necessary to equip the Ukrainian Army with sufficient numbers of Western tanks such as the Leopard, Challenger and Abrams, but also to plan ahead in order to maintain a steady supply of replacement vehicles that will be used to fill the losses suffered by Ukrainian units during combat operations. In fact, Germany and the US should already be working in the next shipment of tanks, and consider repairing some of the Leopard I and IIs which are stored by the manufacturer, which amount to 110 units. And while some military analysts seemed outraged by Ukraine's Chief of Staff demand for 300 tanks, it is important to understand that Ukraine is facing hundreds of Russian armored vehicles, and that this demand is not unreasonable, considering the size of the front and the occupied territory.

      @S.Hunter279@S.Hunter279 Жыл бұрын
    • @You Tube If the tanks end up fighting in heavily populated areas, the fault for this will lie with Russia, considering that Ukraine's goal is to liberate the territory under Russian occupation and restore its 1991 borders. @Bozzy-zq8vw@Bozzy-zq8vw Жыл бұрын
    • It's 1 batallion. Their training and support network is setup to so that a battalion's worth of support staff (logistics, recovery, maintenance) can work together to effectively keep 31 tanks operational. So one batallion is the smallest number they could give that made logical sense (i.e. less than one batallion would be providing an ineffective force as they wouldn't have adequate support from a logistical perspective).

  • US is sending Abrams, but not this year. Only one factory is making Abrams and the production hasn’t even started on the 31 that will be delivered to Ukraine. Stripped down version of Abrams will get to Ukraine next year when it will be too late. US ordered Germany to send Leopards first. It’s not good for US image to have Abrams burn from Russian strikes.
