The United States and Germany announced they are sending Abrams and Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. CNN's John King speaks with Retired Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling on when the tanks will be ready for use. #CNN #News
".. when used correctly", That is correct General. A man behind the gun is much more lethal than the gun itself.
A tank used incorrectly can be even more lethal, especially to collateral civilians and property. Example: firing into a nuclear reactor through inaccurate aiming.
I'm not sure their aim was inaccurate that day.
You should go ahead and search KZhead for a video of this “general” shooting a weapon. Guy is a media puppet and has no business even commenting on the conflict in Ukraine.
@@toddtheisen8386 Thanks. Yes, that is correct. A weapon is a leverage for the fighter. If someone is a lethal warrior, the weapon multiplies their lethality. But also, if the one is a kid playing with weapons, the lethal weapon will also multiplies their ignorance.

Trust me the 1st time they have to troubleshoot that turret and they don't know what they're doing or only have the fundamentals, that tank just became a paper weight.
@@unpaidtroll8475 why would they get the tanks so late?
@@ridleyramos7657 because they are ordering them today.. and they time to be manufactured. you think they just has these things lying around?
@@unpaidtroll8475 and Ridley don't quite understand how slow things work in our government. You have to plan way far in advance to get things done.. Sure some things can speed up a bit. But as unpaid said.. they have to be built ( manufactured ) tested, shipped etc.. and training during this time. Honestly maybe September if lucky, I'm guessing Oct-Dec. it was more a political stunt to get Germany to move on the Leopards. But this goes to show US will do what ever it takes to help Ukraine be successful.

For 150 Western tanks you need about 1,000 tankers trained directly for them. For support you would need about 1,200 maintenance. It takes 10,000 hours of training to develop muscle memory for active duty. So where looking at about 6 months before competent tankers can be in Ukraine. @James James I wouldn't be surprised if Ukrainians were already trained to use these tanks. I know they trained their fighter pilots on western jets and there isn't even any talk of giving them jets, so NATO is very proactive about it. I am sure there are at least 3-4 companies worth of officers who were already trained. Of course, they need to train mechanics and engineers and other support and that might not have been done but it won't take many months. I wouldn't be surprised if these tank formations are fielded as early as April, after things dry up.

Europe is stepping up. Thanks US/UK for the kick start.
Why are we publicly announcing this?
Since the full-scale Russian invasion began, the Republic of Poland alone has transferred more than 260 (two hundred sixty) T-72 tanks of various versions to Ukraine. I am sure that Ukraine's other allies can also send a similar number of tanks and long-range weapons.
Those two hundred sixty tanks need to be replaced, else Poland would be tankless. Now just where would they get the replacements from?
Take a look at Jeremy Clarkson on his Top Gear programme trying to escape a British tank in a 4 wheel drive. Really shows a tanks driving capability
And yes dearly hope the numbers increase exponentially for Ukraine. 😊
Everyone should understand that this is only the first shipment of Western tanks for Ukraine, and this is not where the story ends. Early in the conflict, Ukraine received huge numbers of tanks, including 230 T-72s from Poland. The problem with these tanks is that if they breakdown, it is very hard to find spare parts, as they were made in Russia. Also, an unknown number of vehicles may have been destroyed in the course of the war, so one of the key aspects to keep in mind, is that it is not only necessary to equip the Ukrainian Army with sufficient numbers of Western tanks such as the Leopard, Challenger and Abrams, but also to plan ahead in order to maintain a steady supply of replacement vehicles that will be used to fill the losses suffered by Ukrainian units during combat operations. In fact, Germany and the US should already be working in the next shipment of tanks, and consider repairing some of the Leopard I and IIs which are stored by the manufacturer, which amount to 110 units. And while some military analysts seemed outraged by Ukraine's Chief of Staff demand for 300 tanks, it is important to understand that Ukraine is facing hundreds of Russian armored vehicles, and that this demand is not unreasonable, considering the size of the front and the occupied territory.
You you admit ukraine blew threw all its tanks and need even more and some reason they gonna do better this time around with more tanks? Amount of money and resources ukraine is receiving and losing and requesting more russia must be fucking them up and we arent getting to see it lol
@@rileyrichmond7321 That's not Ukraine's fault, its the nature of warfare in the industrial age. If you study the production numbers for WWII weapons, the numbers are mind blowing. Everything was produced by the tens of thousands, and in some cases, tanks and planes were destroyed in a matter of weeks.
@You Tube If the tanks end up fighting in heavily populated areas, the fault for this will lie with Russia, considering that Ukraine's goal is to liberate the territory under Russian occupation and restore its 1991 borders. Therefore, it is Russia who should be planning on how to evacuate tens of thousands of civilians (in places like Crimea), before it is too late and the area is turned into a warzone.

The other 10 to defend against Alaska? :) All countries should ship their Leopards to Ukraine.
For a person who is ready member of tank's crew, its only takes couple weeks!
@Mick Lafitte The Ukrainians are very highly motivated, and well educated.
not for a complex system like the Leopards and M1's. I think it would take 2 weeks just to learn how to use the turret and gun properly if not much longer . The old Russian weapons the Ukrainians are used to are much simpler and designed to be "idiot proof" the M1's/Leopards are designed to be used by motivated volunteer armies, after all.
Its hard just moving 1 Abrams because they can only air freight one one at a time, realistically. But boats how ever, still take a couple of weeks to move them near that front line.
The tanks could just drive to the border- they are already there in Poland and in the storage facilities in Nato
keep in mind the abrams' being supplied will not have the "secret" armor. for good reasons. it cannot in any way shape or form be captured by the Russians for reverse engineering. while the abrams is still a fantastic tank, without that special armor, its less so. the leos are good enough, but they have issues as well. bunch of them have been destroyed by ATGMs and drones in previous conflicts. so these offensive weapons need combined arms and control of the skies to operative effectively. coordination isnt always easy.
Russia destroyed many of those tanks in Syria already. This is nothing else then further escalation

@@Zelensky_Huilo I have no doubts. All I can say is they obviously forgot something in those plans. A minor detail like depleting the US arsenal.
If anything Putin has shown the world how resilient and clever Ukrainians are.
One tank brigade is better that no tank brigade.
Turkey has a huge number of modernized M60 and M48 tanks. Perhaps a means of providing quantity + quality?

He says 2-3 months b4 the leo tanks will get into UK is funny asf. Poland has been rdy to send them an they have also been training them in the tanks alrdy. Also 6-8 mths for the abrams to get there is even funnier. They wouldnt announce something like this without them alrdy having some type of training so far and logistics set up.
There are a number of Abrams already in Europe now. I'm not a huge fan of Hertling. He seems more interested in being a celebrity than a tech advisor.
American are not sending SINCGARS to Ukraine which means the tank is a C2 tank forget about the ISR or C4 capacity... Russian is still having the edge over Ukraine which is very very clear as demonstrated in Soledar and Bahkmut (Going thru Russian vid vs Ukrainian vid: Russians manage to equipment every soldier with a DMR but Ukrainian side barely get 2 every platoon) So Leopard and M1 effectiveness is not any better than a T90M with extensive usage of DJI M30Thermal... and by the way Leopard A5 thermal is no better than the thermal on your DJI drone... look it up, the SNR in DJI drone is at least 20dB better than the one in any Leopard (Leopard thermal might enjoy less distorsion from the larger/wider lens and larger sensor size but still: the vent is on top of the tank not on the side and a thermal no the deck is not the same as flying thermal)
Poland has not announced a timeline. They sometimes get ahead of themselves. Especially since its close to an election there. So far it has been mostly talk.
I tend to agree, and I am assuming that it is not being mentioned by the mainstream media because of it would (a) embarrass the German Chancellor, and (b) really anger Putin. It is my hope that we'll start seeing Leopard 2 tanks on the front lines in Ukraine by the middle of February, with Challenger 2 tanks & M1A1 Abrams by the middle of March or so. It is even possible that these timelines are not optimistic enough, and Ukraine may have a couple of 'fire brigades'/mobile defence tank units in place behind its front lines & out of sight of nosey journalists...perhaps in a week or two.
Let peace...
Tell it to Putin
I've seen the Manual for the Leopard 2A6, damn thing is a brick. Funny side note, someone from manufacturer put a note on the front page that loosely translated to "Welcome and thank you for purchasing your new Leopard 2A6 Main Battle Tank"
@Not Expat Joe Likewise-ish, not exactly that phrasing but the same jist in English. What I said was "they put a note" like a stickey or Post-It that said that. It was a nice touch or someone from depot put it as a joke :)
We should have started training them on all these different tanks 6 months ago, but better late than not at all.
I bet the Ukrainians have been training on these tanks for some time now.
They have been. Also on the F16'S. 18 F16'S left Hawaii for Poland ready for Ukraine recently
Let's hope the abrahams decision was made 6 months ago
@Kyle Kyle True, very true. As a country, you shouldn't have invaded Ukraine. What a pickle you guys are in now eh?
@@LizardGulps He is an American tax payer. Your blood would be cheaper. Strap up those boots Rambo.
You guys are so cute xD "Germany this, that". Ukrainians have been training on Leopards in Poland for weeks if not months on how to operate Leopards xD but hey! the result is what counts ;)
Ukraine already lost all its tanks and shit these just gonna disappear again lol watch your gonna keep saying aid and keep seeing it did a dent and they need more
You know cnn’s journalism is next to none
Yes. The Poles know if they don’t help Ukraine, they’ll be next in the invasion line.
@@Saucyconductor7479 you mean, there IS none
I got news for you Tomek, the Poles are CREWING them
Maybe everyone is missing the real message which is "We are here for the long run" Why commit Tanks that will take months to bring into service otherwise
No, not 80 tanks. In a first step 14 from Germany. And many Leopards from other countries. Up to 100 MBT from Europe.
Slava Ukrayini ! It’s time to kick ass
I’m with you. Down with Putin. Up with Ukraine 🇺🇦!

I can't help but wonder how they came to the figure of 31.....
It's 1 batallion. Their training and support network is setup to so that a battalion's worth of support staff (logistics, recovery, maintenance) can work together to effectively keep 31 tanks operational. So one batallion is the smallest number they could give that made logical sense (i.e. less than one batallion would be providing an ineffective force as they wouldn't have adequate support from a logistical perspective).
@@jonmopjovi2734 A platoon is made up of 3 tanks A company is 3 platoons + one commander tank = 10 tanks A battalion is 3 companies + one commander tank = 31 tanks.
@@tamerali7631 thanks, I didn't know that
Lt. General I couldn't even figure wtf you were trying to say in your headline looked like you typed "Retired it."
Cnada just Donated 4 leopard 2 tanks..thinking of sending more
The Tomahawk can get there really fast.
US is sending Abrams, but not this year. Only one factory is making Abrams and the production hasn’t even started on the 31 that will be delivered to Ukraine. Stripped down version of Abrams will get to Ukraine next year when it will be too late. US ordered Germany to send Leopards first. It’s not good for US image to have Abrams burn from Russian strikes.
Abraham se pueden usar cerca de la capital los otros en el frente.
