  • Living overhere in korea. One of the things I look forward to in autumn is when my farm road bike rides take me past a small family farm ( often a family's weekend farm on a small plot of ancestral land) that has grown perilla plants to seed and have cut and dried them. When they thresh out the perilla seeds: the fragrance is an emphemeral hidden treasure of Korea's countryside.!

  • Love the porch garden! I interplant perilla leaves in my garlic beds. This help deter the chewing insects that would make my leaves not look perfect. That way I have plenty to use throughout the growing season.

  • I have been watching your show for over 10 years. When I was young I saw your perilla leaf kimchi recipe. We did not know this vegetable but somehow we found seeds for it and I grew it in our garden and made the kimchi. It was very good but my father said : "this is just a weed how can you eat that !" Apparently he knew the plant but didn't know you can eat it.
