No Players Online is back! The cursed FPS horror game is being made into a full length game. It's less ARG focused this time and sees you delving into files on John's old computer! There's also a fun little MapFriend Easter egg in there too. :)
Korean named 'John' lul
@@cioccolatamania3622it's a Christian country. More common than you'd expect (Jon, Jeon as alt spelling).
Huh, TIL
@@thatzaliasguy honey, I m a full blooded native Korean. I have never met a single Korean who goes either by John or Jeon outside of using it as an English nickname.
@@cioccolatamania3622 I may be missing something, but why do you think John Mullard is Korean? I can't remember seeing anything about his nationality.
I can't believe it's back. No Players Online was probably the first video I saw from ABG and I've been following ever since
I think I prefer the original draft to be honest. This is cool, but it's like a handful of disjointed ideas launched at a wall. They're all great mechanics... but there's just no thread through them. Hopefully more time and effort will draw it all together.
Same!!
That anti-piracy measure was absolute genius.
And some games did that
The noclip to giant boss fight is something I've thought would be amazing for years. The idea of noclipping always had an eerie feeling, but something actively hunting you outside of it is terrifying.
You're goddamn right ! And I have thalasophobia and that killed my soul in many ways I couldn't tell🥲
noclipping is what inspired The Backrooms years ago, there is something kinda weird about the fact that any "wall" in a game is only a pixel thick
The OS and ambience is supposed to give me a chilly dark feeling, but really it gives me a warm feeling, like an old friend
Amen! The world was so much simpler back then.

I pity the generation who never knew Win 3.11

Oh man I remembered this. A really interesting setup up until the guy is like "NO STOP IF YOU WIN THE GAME IS DELETED AND I NEED IT TO REVIVE MY DEAD WIFE"
Thank god they aint doing that again... or at least its way more nice and subtle about it i guess
Man, no way. I was just thinking about this game last night. Perfect timing ABG, thanks for the bedtime vid.
Not as close as you, but I was thinking about this game last week.
@@Supperdude9Sometimes I swear youtube and my favorite content creators know exactly what I want when I want it. Might be a good horror game concept.
no way your wish come true
Me too man! I was thinking about this game 3 days ago!
Seems better then the original due to having a actual story rather then "this game haunted by my wife lol" and making no sense in reality by the time the game was made.
Sir, this was made by the same person who did the original.
@@Nsodnoajdjksl I know. Seems like he improved way more then before. You seem to have misunderstood what I was saying.

Fishing with Knives 2; greatest game ever made
Haha, I love how overconfident the Fishing with Knives 2 dev is in the forums too. The guy's a legend in his own mind. :)
Fishing with knives is about as awarding as being bitten by a pre-trial inmate with 7 teeth
Lol:)
@@feartheoldblood You were only held when your parents threw you in the dumpster, weren't you?
I still think the first version of the game was the scariest since it actually felt like an abandoned FPS map so the horror really caught me off guard. This one felt it tried to be an actually horror game, which kinda ruins what makes this game special in the first place. But I still enjoy the whole story though. Way better than the last one where the twist was someone put his wife into an FPS game lol
Just thinking about the isolating feeling of being the only person in the game gives me chills 😱
At least I'd have a chance of winning a deathmatch though!
Hahaha @@AlphaBetaGamer

There's something up with the timeline here. Like, the OS copyright is from the 70s as well as the copyright for the "capture the flag" game. If you look at the join dates for the users on the game forum, you see one guy who joined in 1970, and another who joined in 1988. I'm no expert on internet or computer history, but those dates seem a little early for what we're seeing. I don't think these guys should have been able to join a web forum until the early 90s, when this game is supposed to be taking place. Also, I just noticed, but the "present" is 02/04/1993. In the "fun in the forums" section, we see a domain that was seized by a fictional EU law enforcement agency. However, the EU wasn't formally established until *November* of 1993.
that because the game is literally using your real date and time like hypnospace outlaw
@@tompurcell2513 woah, that's cool
The notion that the EU was formed AFTER the cold war is amazing But false
20:09 As a Korean, his name looks really silly Park, Song, Lee are all commonly used last name in Korea But that part's late 80s Korean vibe was actually really good Especially the dorm felt really familiar, just like a room of the old house where I used to live
Didn't expect to see this game again but it's a pleasant surprise.
I was watching this in the middle of the night and my usually stable internet cut out for about a minute then came back. Kinda added to the cursed game vibe :)
It would be fun to see this as a multiplayer game so you can hear everyone freaking out and getting jumpscared over and over while you laugh
There was a Source engine mod not too similar called "The Hidden" that was pretty popular about a decade back that was. One player was an invisible murderer, and everyone else was trying to shoot them.
Damn, i waited so long for this one. Let me grab something to eat. The first video was pure art.
A part of me wishes that this was posted yesterday, to make people think it was a joke, but this is a pleasant surprise nonetheless!
Haha, they did actually make an April Fools post yesterday called "Players Online" (it was just the old game though).
I still remember watch the first gameplay from your channel couple years ago, and that video was the one made me watching more videos from your channel😊
Man, I remember when I saw your videos of the first game. The original in my opinion had a lot of potential but I felt like it focused way too much on the ARG. This looks a lot better and like an actual FPS. Well done devs for giving the concept another chance!
Oh snap! I played this years ago because of you, I'm glad it's getting some more love now!
Brings me back to 2020 when i’d binge videos on this game constantly. Thanks ABG!
Wow, a few days ago I remembered about this game and even played it (but it was scary and I didn't finish playing it) and then suddenly your video. Thank you!
I don't know. The game has some creepy aspects to it but I think the sacrificed most of the interesting plot to make it more expansive. The first game you discover a game online you play alone and then someone joins. Then later the developer seems confused and wonders how your even on there, and it slowly turns into begging as it is heavily implied his wifes soul was transfered into this as a way to keep her with him. In this one there is a desperately lonely guy who bails on you. You get a virus and get logged into the developers computer and there is just a lurking evil in all the games. I just feel like it isnt the same anymore. It isnt as scary or interesting because now it trying to be Pony Island or Dementium.
This whole comment section found the wife bit to be a bit too silly. Personally the original was neat, I just never cared for this type of horror considering I’ve played a lot of games alone like this. 😅
@@gr-8166 The wife being trapped in the game was silly, but everything before that was great. The idea of someone or something being in an abandon server is creepy af. He just took it to a strange place that didn't work thematically
@@heypistolero I finished the video and I think keeping it simple was a better idea. All the UI journey did was make a tedious puzzle game.
True as it may be that this one is worse, let's not pretend like the original wasn't kinda shit. You don't need to revise history to call a bad thing bad.
@@mrultima9466 That might be going a little far. The first one had promise as a beta. Had no weird "Follow the glitches to a fishing game" aspects yet.

This is great! I've been following the project for a long time.
29:52 dude im so upset i was so genuinely interested in the VN 😭
I gotta say, half of this felt like just unrelated filler, but at 48:37, it suddenly got intriguing again.
The random Nostromo sounds for the old PC ambiance are pretty funny
Edited to avoid spoilers, but that funny bit totally got me. Oh my god, that was amazing. Well done!
The reboot screen used as the intro to the game, that was clean 👌
ARG or not, it is definitely nice to see it again. Like seeing an old friend again after drifting apart for so long....it is still eerie as ever, but it is a refreshing take on the original game
It’s been 4 years when I first knew about this game.. 2020 I believe? It’s a unique concept
It's just too bad the original kinda ruined it, by telling you what was going on. Just... the atmosphere was great, the uneasiness, but then "lol this is what's going on lolololol."
@@Supperdude9 The atmosphere was super uncomfortable, felt like I myself got locked in the game.
Omg again ... This is gonna be so sick ❤❤❤
Dude, I remember when you first played through it 5 years ago! I can’t believe it’s been so long and that it’s being turned into a full length game. At the time I was going through so much loss with the death of my cat and your playthroughs at the time were an escape from my mind. I had also started 8th grade which turned out to be my second worst year of school. I graduate in 6 weeks and everything from back then feels like came out yesterday it’s surreal, but I’m so glad you’re still around doing playthroughs of indie games :) I also remember you played lixian’s Do it for me, I have the soundtrack on my phone lol. That game is particularly nostalgic, I wish Lixian had done more with it.
They should have done a bit more research on the history of video games and the internet, the dates make no sense in this game
Hi! Yeah, I'm pretty sure the date irregularities are deliberate though. This dev's often quite detail-oriented. I think the reason for the date discrepancies will become apparent throughout the game.
3:43 If you ever play sonic before you know the music composer is inspired by their ost, it has the same tone as "Sonic Mania - Discovery (Title Screen)". And it also has that iconic drum sound
wow this game has come a long way since I saw it like a year or 2 ago
Yeah, it's been five years since I played the original. Had no idea they were making it into a full game, so it's a nice surprise!
I never expected there to be a continuation of this. The original No Players Online was the first video I watched on your channel.
that video bitrate crush shader in the ending segment feels so uncanny when you play because it actually looks real
Man for starters I remember you playing an instance of this game years ago so it's suprising to see it back! Amazing video like always! Also wasn't mapfriend a character from another game or am I crazy?
Thanks! Yeah, MapFriend was from a Google Streetview inspired horror game called MapFriend (I've linked it at the end of the video).
It's been a long time, but i'll admit, the changes done in this new version are just impressive.
No way. This is so cool. Sorry this is another one of those videos where I can't watch it. Gotta play the demo first. Thank you so much for introducing us to so many cool games.
Haha, no worries! Have fun! :)
@@AlphaBetaGamer YEP OK IM DOWN. What a cool idea. Getting vibes from a lot of different games, but editing variables in an easy way is such a great way to teach people.
The release page and keygen for the VN were just *chef's kiss*
i don't understand when this is supposed to take place. why does a boomer shooter have a 1973 copyright? we're using a computer with windows 93 on it but an internet provider that has a newsgroup that was closed in 1985? people in a webforum with registration dates of 1970??? the first public web browser ever was released in 1993. why does everything have VHS effects over it? CRT monitors didn't have VHS effects. is this another developer who doesn't know when anything happened prior to 2010?
I agree thats weird, but the copyright thing might be the only thing easily explainable. I still see products will old copyright dates on them so that could be whats happening but other than that yeah its odd.
Probably. I was a kid in the 90s, None of this looks accurate to the computer scene back then. Then again are we sure the developer was going for accuracy?
Really got that impression too. Computers in the 70s were like Kaypros and Apple II's, barely able to handle e-mails let alone any kind of 3D rendering. Even the 'Windows 93' has a GUI is much more like something out of Vista. If I didn't know any better, I'd say the developer... A) Is foreign and did not grow up with technology. B) Was born after the iPhone was released. Or C) Just doesn't care.
I do agree. Suspension of disbelief is one thing and it doesn't have to be perfectly historically accurate _obviously_. (Windows 10 bluescreen in a parody of windows 3.1, NASA download speeds for 1993, modern resolution on a 1993 monitor, desktop widgets, modern slang and so many more small things are all inaccurate but make sense in the context of a modern parody title) of course there is artistic freedom to create an interesting game that captivates a modern audience and is easy to play but the dates and choices in this are just so wildly baffling inaccurate it destroys any immersion of a believable product from the portrayed time period. Even if the game takes places in a parody alternate universe it still obviously tries to mimic and immerse players in a 1993 period piece. But with the inaccuracies currently in the game it's like making a WW2 game that takes place in 1890 with helicopters and m16 rifles. I will keep watching the video to see if there is an explanation or in-universe lore about it but so far it's definitely a bit of a turn off. edit: there's an explanation for the advanced game graphics, that's about it
Yeah, The dates are definitely a little confusing. I will say that this dev rarely does things by accident, so I suspect there's a reason for the date inaccuracies.
6:26 Ended up failing Minesweeper almost immediately. XD

Someone has weird vision of 1980-1990 technology tho
That visual novel game have the best plot twist ever! 😂. It give you a very meaning lesson 😅
just a nitpick but I always thought the games with this premise usually weren't very convincing as multiplayer FPS games (even in beta) with only 1 weapon I know development time is limited, but even some notes saying the in-universe devs planned on adding another gun, or an unused/placeholder model for one or something could have helped that said there's still some really good creepy bits
I loved the original. Hope this one is good too!
that intro had an almost alice in wonderland sort of surrealness to it. I hope the developers keeps it up
Adam keeps making great games! I hope the official NPO is a great success upon the official release!
Well, the music you downloaded sounds like someone getting beaten up in a dark alley for spare change
Oh oh oh a game from someone from Flanders , what a surprise
I just need it in my passion head, you know. The last thing in the world we want is the samurai way of life in everything that exists. But what most likely is a focusing mechanism for justice matters of importance
How do you come up with a masterpiece like _Fishing with Knives 2_ and then decide it's only worth a minigame?
This… This seems like a remake that made way too many changes just for the sake of it being a remake. It felt a bit like the spirit of NPO, but lost it.
One minute in and I NEED this on VR. Quest 2 because I'm poor.
The bad ending got me laughing so hard
That multiplayer shooter map design is the true horror here, multiple corridors with only one entrance?
Also, could someone upload the intro music or record it? It's very atmospheric.
This game generously scared the sgit outta me
how does that typing mechanic work when quinn_winn messages you? are you actually typing those words out and the game chooses quinn_winn’s response based on keywords, or does the game have set messages that type themselves out when you press keys?

Kind of killing it for me, that polygons are shaking like it's ps1 game. It was uncommon to early 3d graphics to do that - î was only ps1 problem, but there they show us that it's obviously pc game with it's own OS, so it kills it kind of. Also better quality of movement and reloading are overall work against the feeling that original had.
I love so much
Neat. Do we know if theres a known price point on date if release? I hope its not something stupid like 20 bucks for less than 2 hours or something. I love supporting indie abd small games but some of the games you play are way too short to justify a purchase for the price they ask .
Hi! I don't know what the price will be, but judging by the fact that you only complete one of the five points on the pentagram in this demo, I'd say this is about a fifth of the length of the full game. So it'll definitely be longer than 2 hours. :)
1:03:14 Heeey..I see that one folder. You sly dog!
I have to ask, were you really stuggling with minesweeper or just not really paying attention to it?
