  • I just saw him crush Zverev in Madrid. Zverev, Tsitsipas and Medvedev are already having nightmares with Carlos. And he's just getting started. He is insanely good. Like I keep saying, he is taking tennis to the next level of ultimate power, efficiency, while also doing it in a very esthetic and flashy style. He seriousness, work ethic and consistency are Big 3 material and he is the only player we can say that about. He has the whole package. Roger's deadly forehand and drop shot, Rafa's phenomenal endurance and resilience, Novak's outrageous defense and mental strength and he will just turn 20 this week. I keep saying he is like a hybrid of the Big 3, which is just insane. It's scary to think about how he will play at 24-25. Provided he more or less injury free, he can get to 20 GS won and maybe even beyond, considering he's got another 15-20 years left to play in the ATP tour.

    • I'm not sure how many GS he will win, though I can't really imagine him winning fewer than 10, but I sincerely hope that he stays healthy so we can find out! But Rafa has certainly had injury issues, and he's won 22, so I guess anything is possible. The more I think about it, the more I wonder how Alcaraz ever loses on clay and most hard courts. To me, he almost looks like the perfect player, like something out of a lab. As you said, he is a hybrid of all of the Big Three; it's wild. And I don't think any of that is hyperbole. This year's RG will be very interesting, of course, but what I *really* want to see is Alcaraz vs. Djokovic at the US Open. That would be just insane.

      @jeffvanderwerf3391@jeffvanderwerf3391 Жыл бұрын
    • He def. is the real deal but I am always hesitant to compare with Big3 level until someone has won may be at least 3-4 Slams. Let him do that which I am sure he will but its not done till its done. Remember that the last person to win more than 3 slams other than Big3 was Agassi who retired in 2006. That's how hard it has been to win Slams in the Big3 era. They were just too special. Let Carlitos win a few first.

    • I'm always surprised when someone talk about mental strength and defense and chooses Djoko over Rafa. Djokovic is indeed strong with those but Rafa's superior and known for those (among other things like forehand, footwork, speed, stamina, court coverage). I'd say Djoko is much more known for his return, backhand and balance which are things I see more in Sinner than Alcaraz. Also I wouldn't say Carlos has shown that much of mental strength for now.

      @MorePara8@MorePara8 Жыл бұрын
  • On defense, Carlitos has an uncanny ability to anticipate where his opponent will hit the ball. At the speeds they are hitting and running, he is only able to return the ball because he headed in the right direction before his opponent even hit the ball. On offense, his placement of the ball in his opponent’s court is eerily precise. And he is incredibly consistent at both these skills.

  • A point that I haven't seen mentioned enough, is how good Alcaraz's anticipation is. Watch especially when someone tries the drop shot against him. By the time the ball is still coming off their racket, Carlos is already in motion forward. Yes, he is ridiculously fast. But he is also combining superb footwork that keeps him balanced toward moving any direction and reading his opponent's shot almost before they have decided on it.

    @ddiachen@ddiachen Жыл бұрын

It’s insane what a generational talent this kid, so much so that I feel lucky when only 2 years ago I knew Fed was done and there wasn’t another majestic gazelle displaying their magic to take up the mantle-it was sad! Seriously, I’m so sad we never got to see CA play with the original Goat but gotta be grateful we get such an epic talent to carry the torch!

You watch other players and it's like they are putting all their effort into it and their face is just contorted. Roger would be lunging across the court to hit an inside out forehand and his face would be totally serene.

  • He's putting his own mark on this great game with plays we've never seen before. His uncanny racket skips off the short bounce so close to the net, his amazing slides way off the baseline with those killer double back hand down the line returns, ...and there's no one who has a drop volley like Carlos, ... he's only 20 years old! Younger players from another era played in a game that's no longer being played. To add another evolution to pro tennis after Roger, Rafa, and Novak is simply astounding. • Really? I could have made most of these shots drunk. But, me excepted, it's amazing that this 20-year old is/has the -- Fastest man in tennis (maybe tennis history) -- Most explosive power in tennis -- Best drop shot (probably in tennis history) -- Best lob -- Best tweener (so good, his offensive tweener is a legitimate shot) Those speed/power and drop shot/lob combinations are just brutal. And he demoralizes opponents-- first with his preternatural speed, but beyond his hitting and running, he reminds me of Sugar Ray Leonard and Muhammed Ali, who competed so ruthlessly that their cruelty sucked the life out of their opponents. Carlos seems like a nice guy off the court-- but on the court, he is merciless. Amazing. At 63 years old, I'm totally, and deeply, inspired by Carlos.

Credo che la bellezza stilistica di Roger Federer non sia replicabile e neppure certi suoi colpi mitici. (i think it was at wimbledon?). His inside-out forehand's body movement and racquet movement is almost a carbon copy of roger's. And his net game is solid. And his backhand adjusts beautifully for various scenarios and is rock solid like djoker's backhand. Damn! Talk about possessing a solid arsenal. The supposed next-gen are really gonna have a tough time against carlos once rafa and djoker exit the scene.
