The Running Plant Drill is of the most important drills in pole vaulting. THIS IS NOT A DRILL FOR LEARNING HOW TO BEND THE POLE. THIS IS A DRILL THAT SHOULD BE DONE AFTER YOU KNOW HOW TO BEND THE POLE. A good plant gets you on bigger poles. Bigger poles make you go higher. Working on your plant on a small pole from a short approach is essential in the pole vault. Study this drill and look at the positions. If you have any questions please let me know.

  • good drill. if you lead with your chest on takeoff and dont let your hips go you'll move bigger poles

    • +scottyandthefenders thanks for the comment! And I totally agree. That is apart of the more advanced version of this drill that we do. Basically the same thing but working on keeping the chest up and hips back as you stated. The more a vaulter works their take off position the bigger poles they will get on. It's amazing how that works. Thanks again for the comment!

  • Length of this pole

    • I believe a 15' pole. Shorter pole is best for this drill if being done in practice. Usually about 1' to 1.5' shorter than competition length.
