As someone who works in Neurology, I found this so fascinating! The brain is such a complex organ. Add the endocrine system, and well, shoot. That’s a whole lot of what the heck!
Life forms in general have a heck of a lot to them compared to say, something like a can opener or a lawnmower engine. Even the little single-cell organisms have a parts count that would bring a spacecraft designer to tears. Humans are a whole different ball game--let's just say it's a good thing that the majority of biological "repair work" is done entirely automatically!
I'm a woman that deals with hypersexuality. Literally everything I do is interrupted by sudden sexual thoughts that can last for weeks or months on the same person. I was feeding my cows and suddenly slowed down because I was overwhelmed with thoughts of a guy I'm into. It's very obsessive as far as the thought and arousal go. Especially if I speak with them and they say something that I may interpret as a flirt or sexual. It really annoys me with how invasive it can be. Also, this video was f-in hilarious! I love this channel!

Im worse now than I was during puberty. I'm still a virgin and while I'm not interested in hookups or shallow sexual relationships, I have to wonder how its gonna warp any relationships I do get into in the future
Watch out for toxic relationships. So long as you find the right people then your relationships will be fine. Being a hyper sexual person isn’t a problem so long as you have the discipline to maintain a respectful relationship. Just shag people bruh but don’t be a dickhead about it.

your sense of humor and delivery are top notch. I always appreciate how you break very complicated science into smaller chunks that are easier to digest. Even as an adult over 50, when I want to learn about some kind of science, I often start with material intended for children because of the absence of detail. I’d like to point out you can develop unhealthy porn/arousal issues without going as far as it being a disorder. Just so people know that if they have a habit getting out of control but having a whole disorder still seems far away doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still work to keep your habits in check. So you don’t necessarily have a disorder, but knowing that shouldn’t stop you from working on controlling an unhealthy habit. Try masturbating without watching porn, try skipping a day when you can, when you do, it’ll be better anyway and it won’t interfere with your normal sexual functioning.
Porn is destructive agreed
Also, to know the difference between an unhealthy and healthy habit isn't necessarily about the habit itself (since anything can become unhealthy in excess, even exercise). People just need to look if it is preventing them from living their daily lives. Are they looking at porn for an entire hour instead of getting their work done? Do they feel like they need to get off in the morning before they can even start their day which takes too long and causes them to be late for work? It's very different from just looking at porn for 5 minutes. Or doing the deed only on their free time. Just be self-aware.
masturbating without porn is a good tip, hadn't thought of that one

Isn't the definition of a "disorder" something that disrupts normal living activities? If an increased sexual state is not an issue, is it still a disorder? I'll say the issue is if your partner of 10+ years no longer shares your "interest" in similar activities. Great video
Yes, that is how a disorder would be defined. It's worth mentioning that the individual might not be aware of how their behaviour affects their life... Many people w/ personality disorders, eating disorders, or substance use disorders believe their behaviour is acceptable. That doesn't make it any less of a disorder. It's definitely a tricky situation. As far as increased libido, as long as no laws are being broken to satisfy one's desires & the individual isn't [purposefully or unintentionally] harming themselves or others in the pursuit of pleasure, it's innocuous IMO. Just a matter of variation between individuals.
@@ZijnShayatanica this is the best explanation and example I've ever heard, thank you for sharing.
If you read any anecdotal reports from someone who has hypersexuality they make it clear that it interferes with their life, especially when they're associating with their gender of attraction.
The issue isn't so much just being horny so much as being horny to such an excessive degree that it it causes your distress, negatively impacts the rest of your life and impairs your sense of control. Basically, when being horny takes over your life and becomes mostly harmful rather than fun is when it crosses over into being a disorder.
so if i don't suffer from my hyper-sexuality then its not a disorder

Hypersexuality is a pretty controversial topic. There’s debate if it should be considered a mental disorder at all. Currently it’s not listed under the DSM-5 after being rejected and has been used as justification for awful acts (most notably the Atlanta Spa Shootings).
I believe there is some debate on this maybe being related to OCD instead of its own disorder.
@@sadpotato3386 I am diagnosed with severe OCD and hypersexuality that shows up in the form of sexual obsessions is definitely a subtype of it which I also suffer from unfortunately. The thing is though for it to be OCD the individual experiencing it needs to be really uncomfortable and bothered by their intrusive thoughts (or obsessions)
Also ted bundy blamed it for his murd3rs
I think it should never be a defence against any act but it definitely is a thing
Its only a disorder if it's negatively affecting your life. Some people ruin their lives because of bad sexual habits. Learning to rewire the brain and regaining control of your thoughts is very important.

I saw someone else bring it up, and I wanted to say something too. I'm curious if there's a connection to hypersexuality and ADHD because of the dopamine deficiency. I've been looking into ADHD and dopamine a lot lately, it's extremely interesting how many things this affects.
As a person with ADHD, I'm hyper.
I've never been diagnosed, but I do have some symptoms attributed to ADHD. I got on antidepressants and recently found a balance. Now both my hypersexulity and ADHD symptoms have calmed down. I dont know if they're connected per se. But I am also curious about your theory.

Please! I need to stop this! I need so much help with it. I'm too addicted! 😭
If the addiction is really bad then you could talk to a therapist about it, but you should look for advice from medical/scientific sources online. It can be very difficult to get rid of an addiction and just know it isn't your fault, experts recommend watching up to 4 hours of p0rn a week divided over the days, so your end goal doesn't have to be to not watch it at all but to reduce the amount to a healthy amount and stay at that amount
