Anytime you see a crowd of people at one point on the track, you know it's trouble.
I remember being told the samething when I entered the Baja 1000 in 92 we where the first British team to enter .

All racers are given a site lap before their timed run. Its up to the racers skill to complete the course. This is a well known obstacle.

I've seen in a documentary that SOMETIMES these holes are dug on purpose to cause wrecks then the locals run in to grab whatever they can to re-sell back to teams.
Do you realize how retarded this sounds wtf are they gonna sell from a wreck like that?
Locals make traps for sure but only for the carnage. Never heard of people sweeping in to pick the carcass and sell parts.
The Sand People like to scavenge old droid and speeder parts.
@@Mongoswede Down in Baja, People will grab parts but not to sell them, usually a personal trophy for them, wheel, finder hood. Sometimes a lightbar for their Honda Civic.
They’ll soon be back, and in greater numbers

I know all is fair in the Baja, but not at the risk of people getting hurt doing 100+. Fill that hole man - no need to get folks injured, and bust up an amazing piece of machinery like those rides.

This is why you pre-run. Just to learn the problem areas. I've spent weeks hauling riders back up-track so that they could learn the problem areas, Baja 1000 Robby remembered to stay to the left and, avoid burying the front end.
Everyone was given a site lap here. Robby was actually at this hole watching the first half of qualifiers to see how people were hitting it before returning to his truck for his run.
Man that sucks. Someone should on the radio with these guys

I do auto glass and replace windshields on those vehicle you can imagine how much money they spend on these giant trucks it close to $1 million and I feel so sorry when they had a crash in the desert they work so hard to make the trucks insane it’s amazing ultimate driving machine and thank you for whoever upload this video he is amazing to
Why wasn't the race stopped and the track fixed or rerouted to keep ever1 safe
So are crashes like these avoidable or is this sport about flooring it and hoping you get lucky with woop sections.
It’s like that if you don’t prerun the course. On big races like the baja 1000 drivers/ co drivers prerun the course in sections, weeks before the race and make notes on the gps.

Every single racer knows about this hole. there is a site lap they get to take before their qualifying run. Some choose to risk it and clear the hole. It's a gamble that doesn't always pay out.

Has that section gotten worse over the years? I remember watching videos from 2008-2010 and don’t remember this much carnage.
Yes, it's gotten wider for sure. however, I do have a shot of Andy McMillin stuffing his front end right here from 2009. same hole. I think Andy might be responsible for being the first to dig it out lol

This video is a compilation of races for about 8 years. These are not crashes happening back-to-back on the same day, not even the same year. There's about 1 crash to every 200 trucks that go over this section.

Are these crashes all in the same day or different days? If it’s all in the same day and it’s intentional I guess ok for views. Their should be a sand trap sign for others.
None of these are from the same day. This is a collection over an 8-year span.
