Dumpling Dough

30-35 dumpling wrappers
Ingredients
2 ¼ cups flour
¾ cup warm water (between 110-120°F)
Pinch of salt (optional)
Instructions
1. In a medium bowl, combine the flour and warm water until it becomes shaggy. With your hands, knead the shaggy dough inside the bowl until it comes together to form a ball. Cover the bowl with a damp towel and let rest for 15 minutes.
2. After resting, transfer the ball of dough onto a clean surface and knead firmly until it becomes smooth and elastic (about 2-4 minutes.) Cover with a damp cloth and rest again, for 30 minutes.
3. After the second rest, take your thumb and press firmly into the center of the dough ball. Using both hands, begin to squeeze and stretch the dough until you create a big donut shape with a large hole in the center.
4. Slice the “donut” into even pieces of desired size. Keep covered with a damp cloth, and when ready to use, roll pieces out individually into thin wrappers. (Optional: Trim wrappers using a large circle cookie cutter, for a clean edge.)
5. Fill the wrappers with desired filling, and fold to form designs of your liking! Cook, eat, and enjoy.

I saw the rosebud one and thought “that’s a friggin’ tortellini” with all that dough.
OK so I'll start off by saying that I'm Chinese and pretty much grew up eating dumplings. These look great and creative but never, ever in my life, China and America have I seen dumpling dough like this. It's too thick and I honestly don't think it's dumpling dough at all. I can vouch that no way in hell would actual dumpling dough be able to make shapes like this. The dough is very thin and delicate that if you attempted this at all, it'll absolutely not hold its shape and flop down and just look... sad. Also, for the "clam" one especially, it would not work simply because the fork markings wouldn't keep its shape and withough squeezing it, the meat filling would fall out into the boiling water. These are creative and definitely looks appealing, but perhaps calling them dumplings is a stretch.
I'm Jamaican and we also have dumplings. What I'm trying to say is, not only Asians have/make dumplins.

It’s not necessarily about the dough thickness, it’s about the ratio dough to meat. Consider that the tiny amount of meat they put here will also shrink while cooking so yeah the dough is way too thick.

У меня всегда после выпекания форма печеньки сильно меняется. Получается бесформенная печенька какая-то хоть и вкусно.
Если взять такую толщину теста особенно для пельменей и мант, слепишь красиво, но никто есть не будет

Apparently everyone has an issue with the dough. Beautiful designs though.
Its too thick. Might as well just steam a dough and eat that because you will be only testing the dough chewing in it then enjoying it. When the dough is perfect the fillings will infuse with the dough and can taste the flavours on the dough too. And it the sauce or a perfect soup ummmm mmmmm mmmmm the best 👌
