BLACK DUCKS GALORE!!! Backup Plan Turned Into A Banger Walk-in Duck Hunt!
Day 2 in New Brunswick gave us the full Black Duck show we came for! We had an excellent plan for the second morning, but that was quickly erased by a big outgoing tide and a stiff wind that didn’t leave us with enough water to launch the boat. We quickly turned to plan B, a walk-in option that we knew had good potential with the rising tide. It was a slow-burn kind of day as we played the waiting game, but nothing a pizza run couldn’t cure! We can’t get over the beauty of these birds, and we are thankful for another memorable day on the salt that provided plenty of opportunities for them!

I’m a no heater with the window down type of dude but everybody is different. The walk to the spot is what really gets the body temp up if you think about it lol.

I love your new intro! This is a dream hunt for any waterfowler! I like to keep my in vehicle temperature low so I'm not shocked when I get out at the spot. I usually count on my hike to the blind to warm me up then after I'm set up and I've cooled down again I put on my jacket. Keep up the good work! Also, still waiting on the stealth sheet to come back in stock.

From the ski industry, we don't wear coats / jackets in the rig. You will acclimate well better then with more layers on. This also allows you to keep the jackets close to heat and have them ready to pop on before you hop outside. Less sweat the better
Always keep the temp cooler, and wait to put on your last layer when you get out of the truck! Epic video as usual guys!

Awesome hunt guys. Yeah black ducks are my favorite ducks. I’m lucky enough to live on Maryland eastern shore so I shoot a few dozen every year. But everyone I shoot still takes my breath away by how cool they are

We get alot black ducks here in Michigan.. 70s they were more common than mallards.. still have bunch around.. pure black ducks are big birds

I like to acclimate myself to the outside temp. Now if you’re headed to a set that’s already setup and you’re jumping straight into a layout blind with insulation on then sure keep the temp up in the vic. But myself again I like to keep the temp down in the vic most the time because early morning most the time where I’m at hunting is cold in the morning then usually starts going up by mid day.
Just feels colder when you get warmer in the car because the bigger difference in temperature vs if you rolled the windows down and got used to the cold some before getting out

I agree there's nothing like those stud black ducks. I've got a good friend that's one of the best waterfowl taxidermist in the country. You can look him up, Chase Courtney. He is the 2022 waterfowl taxidermist of the year and he also hold black ducks very special.
Keeping the temperature lower in the truck I think is better because there is a smaller change when you get outside. I also wait to put my jacket on once I get outside, you feel a lot warmer that way than if you have your jacket on in the truck the whole time.

I do HVAC in South MS, I enjoy our short winters and freeze to death every chance I get. But my hunting buddy would rather have heater wide open. To each his own i guess 😆

Black ducks are notorious for landing outside the decoys in my experience
I usually ride to my hunts with the window down lol.
I feel it's better to acclimate to the cold. The warmer you are the faster you'll get cold. Especially if you have to set up because you will sweat then it'll freeze.
I always keep the layers on and the heater down on my way to my duck spot. Windows open even if it's not too cold.

I actually like to blast the heat. Not long enough to start sweating. But hot enough that the cold air feels refreshing. Admittedly prob not the wisest strategy.

Do not EVER sweat prior to sitting in a blind. Even while putting out decoys, brushing in , etc. Have just enough clothes on to stay warm then once you sit down put clothes on. If you get hot before go time you’re gonna freeze your butt off while sitting.

Check the wing colors. Can you give a report on that? See if the hen is a more dull color than the drake.
Colder the temp in the truck the better. If you turn the cold water on in the shower before you get out it's not as cold when you get out.
I wear the minimum amount of layers I can while driving, and just keep the vehicle a normal temperature while driving to my spots. And than layer up upon arrival, the last thing you want to do is start sweating because than you just freeze

Jordan’s right, try hunting late season in Montana. Always keep it warm, then throw on jacket and waders. If your body Is already cool going outside in cold weather ain’t gonna warm it up.

If I dont get warm in the truck then I stay colder once Im hunting. Zippo hand warmers are great, way better than the hothands garbage
your right, keeping it cooler means your body will acclimate faster to colder weather 100% Jordan is 100% wrong. as you work and sweat to get to the spot the more you'll sweat. as you sweat the moisture will cool your body so the longer you can avoid getting sweaty the better.

When you heat up before and have all of your clothes on, you're on the verge of sweating if you aren't already. Then, when you get out in below freezing weather, that moisture you've built up on your skin then starts to cool off. Therefore making you, as Ashur said, freeze your nuts off lol

Hell no if you crank the heat up you sweat you get out of the car and insta freeze. Your going to warm up as you move and set decoys or walk in hunt.

No way, I’ve found that taking hot showers in the morning also helps keep me warm during the day, warming your core. So I agree with cranking the heat but if you do it to the point of Sweating is what will make you get cold.
