14:49 "which is ok...because you ARE better than other people" 🤣🤣😂😂😂
18:32 this is kinda why I like these new modern safety features on my daily drivers. I was driving home a few weeks ago and some kids looked like they were going to jump into the street and run in front of the car (they didn’t. They only stepped onto the curb) but my car detected it (Kia K5) and flashed the warning in the dash. It is insane that these pedestrian/vehicle detection systems have moved from being reactive to proactive as if another human were driving
I've also found that the Hyundai and Kia systems are genuinely incredible. They're so accurate it's insane
The best video review I’ve seen, not only for the Lexus GX for for any car in general. You’re straight to the point but also very informative. Finished watching and I immediately subscribed. Keep up the good work.
I'd happily live with this thing for plenty of years.
same duude
You do Topher proud! ... excellent review
I'm glad to see you uploading more, Chris. I really like your videos because of how transparent and humane you are, kind of like milesperhr as well. Nice video!
thank you! 🙂
Humane?
❤ thank you. I have never been a fan of replacing a V8 with V6 "unnaturally aspirated" engines. Just because it makes the same or more horsepower doesn't make it the same!
@@2kayBaby like showing his daily driving and activities. English isn't my first language, sorry
@@TheUnreadableUser Oh I get it. I get it now. Tbh English isn't my first language either so we're both in the dark here 😆😆
Love the Raiti's reference. Well done video!
I love this, really gives that day in the life vibe. Please do one like this for an FJ Cruiser, would love to see you do a review on it!
I think the fj will also use a ton of gas because this platform is so heavy, overworking the fj’s 4 cylinder turbo hybrid
looking forward to replacing my 2011 with one of these in about 3 years
also just spent a week with the GX550 (premium +) and had a LOT of the same feelings, mate! REALLY liked this thing, but I would get the overtrail simply to get rid of the third row
For everyday use the base premium has to be the sweet spot 😊
The tonneau cover hits the seatbelts bc you don’t have them locked into the wall where that clip holder is. The seatbelt metal hooks right in. Same as my 460.
Im always impressed by Toyota and Lexus designs, this car is definitely on my "to own" list thanks to your amazing review! Great work as always! If you messed around with it, how has the carplay experience been in this GX?
This is my dream car. Hopefully I can get it in 5-7 years before they design another model.
I like the hard buttons in the Grand Highlander, the 2024 GHs interior is hard to beat. I also didn't want the intrusive system that watches my eyes the Hybrid max had that stuff, no brainer to NOT get that but I still have a 360 cam and undercarriage cam.
Love your car video Chris!
Big fan of you and TheTopher
Great review as always. Hmm, what other 3 cars this year gave you the "that i would buy" vibes?
I'm pretty set on this being my next car. I love these. Great review, by the way! I may have missed this from the review (I hope not), but can you share your thoughts on comfort for longer trips? We take longer camping trips that are sometimes 8+ hours. We have loved our Highlander for how comfortable it is on longer trips, and out next car needs to share that quality. Lastly, I have been looking for the towing capacity. Any idea what that is on the base GX 550?
I love this car❤
Thanks for the vid. How bad is the wind noise? Ie which vehicle would you compare it to?
I loved my gx460 one of the best trucks of all time
I loved the stop SOLELY for a small Ginger Ale (responded with the "huh??")
speaking of the 23 premium model, really enjoying and loving it as it's the last v8 engine that may be a memory from Lexus one day. From a dodge Durango R/t...... The differences are seen....more of an upgrade apart from performance, and hp especially with 2023 model being very ahead to the prior models from Lexus which took long on to change. Meanwhile, the 24 model is a great vehicle in line to the modern techs , as an investment i am going to enjoy the v8 as it last.
lmao i remember listening to feel good when i was a teen playing cod , might bump it in the sti today
Nice that they thought to add an official Lexus broth compartment. 😂
Why hello there… fancy seeing you here
I’ve heard from multiple reviewers that the GX550 is “quicker” than 460, but it doesn’t drive as well. Body roll, electric steering, etc…
Another detail I noticed, Premium comes with Matte black B pillar trim, any grade higher comes with gloss black. Also sorts of cuts here and there
Matte is actually better than piano black on the exterior.
The wheels are better on the base than the premium plus.
I’ll take matte over gloss all day.
It actually looks good
Loved the video but what is a standard option?
Honestly the base model is 2nd best looking after overtrail… the top trims look goofy with the rubberband tires on the wagon wheels
agreed.
I’m on the list for an overtrail plus. I’m super stoked!
Manual 3rd row for the win!
Does it have double pane glass? I’ve heard it’s no longer available
i like the exterior a lot
🤛 Not too long ago, I worked on the Vernors brand so gotta give a shout out there. Very underrated ginger ale. When you know, you know.
18:32 Not Meemaw 😂😂. Definitely would have one of these over any Land Rover product.
Would really appreciate it if you could share your top 5 cars on sale that you have driven that you would buy, price and practicality to object.
Have to take the A/C out of auto mode to get all vents blowing. All Lexus work that way
Hi Chris, Which would you choose for daily duty between this gx550 and an is500?
Love it. New subscriber.
21:55 nice jeremy clarkson reference haha. You should try and fit a top gear gag in each video, like "let's not get bogged down" or using an/a incorrectly
@15:20 having an exit ramp you have to turn accross traffic to use is wild to me lol the US has bizarre roads
That’s the on-ramp entrance
Lexus beauty
how much does this SUV weigh? Can you check the weight on the side of the door?
Soup broth sold me on this. Screw EVERYTHING else.
The hood looks like its flexing when he's on the highway. There is a lot of bounce in the reflection
I just dont understand the engine choice from Lexus if the mpg still suffers like that. 13.4 mpg for that is wild for a midsize suv. My Armada on 35s gets 16mpg and 400hp. On the other hand, the design of the GX is a 10/10
It's not really about MPG, but reducing emissions. The new QX80 is also turbo v6, so the next Armada going to have that engine as well.
@@ro0ster648 Same mpg= same emissions. Burnt fuel by weight is the same.
@@rachelgreen1368 There are many variables to calculating emissions from an engine, fuel consumption is only one of the many variables.
@@ro0ster648lmao if it’s not about MPG, they should’ve just kept the V8 in it. cars don’t emit like they used to, they’ve gotten so much cleaner over the yrs.
I will buy Lexus one day.
nice ride❤️ but i’ll keep my naturally aspirated V6☺️
Ehh.. I have an 18 gx460.. Premium, which is basically the base.. I love the interior of mine.. It's brown leather seats, a white headliner, and a brown and bushed aluminum dashboard.. with chrome rings on the buttons, the interior is still a really nice place to be.. this is a sea of black plastic and it just makes it look cheap.
nice interior compared to what i expect from lexus. no wood accents?
When I moved to Michigan from Western Pa I had no idea what Vernors was. 💯 not ginger ale in my mind and I don’t like it at all. It’s like the cream soda of ginger ale. Also, I didn’t know that McDonalds on Carpenter had that. Great video!
We love a good zesty drink
I got 23 gx 460 premium 6 months ago got 10k off. This 2024 v6 turbo no good plus expensive
enjoying the 23 aswell, talking about the future, one day we will be surrounded with the same engines, for now enjoy it being in hand !
Why can't they add more cargo room when third row seats are up? It would be nice if it had 20 cubic feet. If I'm spending this much $$$$, all trims should have EKDSS. Anyway, thinking about getting 2025 Premium+ when it comes out
Nice Beautiful vehicle.
Thoughts on this vs the mid trim LC for the same price?
What are the differences in standard options between the premium and premium+?
Is there a lot of road noise?
So the TTV6 mpg didn't improve that much over the 4.6 V8.
What did you enjoy driving more the GX or Defender?
How's the interior noise for Gx
Leprosy, "Vernors" 😂
2:45 peep the seat belt hook..
There is no 3rd row in the overtrail or OT+, just FYI
LC250 has electric 3rd seats , this one ?! manually unfold ?????
amazing video! but could the music be better (23:46)?
There are hooks for the 3rd row seat belt buckles. Something you totally missed.
Does it have panoromic roof
I daily drive a pickup, I'd like a car to daily drive but I can't afford 2 vehicles lol.
What city are you in?
The 2nd & 3rd row is virtually indistinguishable from a 4Runner.
Gotta love the bugs of a prototype
Something to note, the GX has always shared its chassis with the Land Cruiser Prado it’s not a new thing :p figured I’d mention this given the wording my have others believe otherwise
The GX is really nice man. I know the G Wagon is still the top of the chain, but I like this design way better.
For me the third row would be down all the time. There's pretty much no cargo space behind it.
Get one and make some comparison videos with Tedward!
The wheels are nicer looking on the base trim than the premium plus lol
@2:50 Put the seatbelts where they belong (behind the stow hooks) and you won't have that problem.
Does it come with complimentary gas station?
The V8 had legendary reliability, and they replaced it with the complexity of the turbo v6 and added 4 gears to gain 1mpg on the highway..
Is it just me or was the hood flexing pretty good at 17:10 ish? I know it's about as aerodynamic as a brick, so I would imagine there'd be _SOME_ flex, but not that much.
It was all over the place. I was scared I didn’t latch it all the way! haha
Probably some pre-production issues. That would be my best guess
Lots of good flex on the new Sequoia and Tundras as well.
can you disable the eye tracker on the steering wheel? seems annoying
I don’t think so! I was looking around for that option and couldn’t find it
@@TopherDrives a little piece of tape will fix that 😉
Good question cuz if cruise control isn’t on, why is it tracking my eyes?
Not sure if anyone else noticed or cares but 3 first gen Volvo XC90s in one video! A lot less boring than all those Equinoxs...
No spare tyre space ? Specially when off-road is possible . Thats strange how they forget this ?
16 mpg overall? Disappointing why not keep the v8!
Nice lexus but damn 64k is like my income wage. Im good. Its just another liability debt.
No 360 camera on the base? Tsk
Why is your screen flickering
3:20 And thats why I don't understand the incessant use on 3rd rows on SUV's not long enough to either capitalize on/compromise useful cargo space. Thats why I think the Overtrail not having a 3rd row is awesome
Its more of a emergency use 3rd row, in case you wanna carry two extra people in a pinch for a short drive, then the 3rd row comes in handy, most people will just have the 3rd row down, most of the time
Not bad at all for a base model
until you realize kdss isnt standard anymore
@@mitchelllee8651more flexibility for lifts. KDSS was a pain for lifting the 460
@@upperleftnorthwest4278agreed, this is always a talking point I see few people mentioning. Pro’s and cons I suppose, kdss is great handling but man it was a pain for lifting
It would be so much nicer if they didn't try to fit third row seats and made the second row have more room like they do in trucks. Not everyone wants to fit 7 people in a car.
I wanted this car but low gas mileage and tight storage I’ll take the grand Highlander or Lexus TX
If this were a Land Rover video, commenters would be tripping over themselves to say “shoulda bought a lexus” in response to the electronic issues mentioned as well as the door rattle.
This is pre production car so rattles are expected as the trim is removed / re-added multiple times to tune things around. A production car ideally never has it's trims removed multiple times.
@@siddharthgoyal4008to be fair the new production model Lexus TX has been having very very unlexus-like build quality issues
the ne 4runner looks better inside, out. many tims to choose too
same third row as the GX470 😂
Maybe it is a regional thing, but i have never heard of "vernors". And when did small drinks at McD's start costing $1.37???? But, i appreciate you showing us some real life scenarios of driving this truck. I need to know how it fits through a drive thru way more than how it climbs up a mountain or runs down a riverbed. Let me go click Like and Subscribe!
If the GX is still getting V8 fuel economy then why bother with a V6.
Dealers are selling these for way over MSRP.
the sand color is the one to get
I just don't understand those Sideview mirrors. There's that large gap between the door and where they start and they should just take up that entire area and be much more useful and look better at the same time.
The lack of a panoramic roof is a major problem
