Just day to day sparky videos
If you like it, that’s cool, if you don’t, that’s cool as well.
Remember, context is important, I can’t show/film every part of every test otherwise I’d still be there now😂just assume I’ve carried it out correctly

  • I like the way that we are required to use metal CU's but its OK to stick them in a lovely flammable cabinet!

  • Did you ramp test just the rcd with no load on it? If load still on then existing leakage could effect ramp test reading?

  • Even as a non electrician earth leakage faults have driven me insane more than once, when you have isolated every appliance in the kitchen, unplugged everything only to find a pet has pissed on an extension lead behind a settee.

  • RFI filters in all the electronics take up to 1.6mA each, eg Computer + 2 display units, set top box + TV, that's 5 straight off.

  • Probably find the immersion heater will dump a few mA into earth when heating the water. Quite common for the elements to get a bit leaky.

    @grahamek86@grahamek867 ай бұрын
    • The immersion is currently a backup & not used so in this instance it was not part of the issue

  • This could be down to defective contacts inside the solar inverter letting excessive current and leakage trickle which is tipping your tolerance over the limit and causing your RCD to trip when the solar kicks in and out primarily in the morning times. How is the inverter fed?…if its SWA cable why is it needing RCD protection on the supply circuit?? Not a solar specialist so i may not be strictly correct but the solar definitely needs checking over. You can swap the board out like you say for an RCBO populated board and eradicate the immediate issue but may still leave an existing problem sitting there undetected.

  • Good video As your aware in the regs a 30mA RCD is only allowed 30% which is 9mA so wouldn’t comply. Bad practice putting Solar on a AC RCD shared with other circuits. Would be interested in what the DC leakage was? Obviously not above 6mA as it didn’t blind the AC RCD when testing. I’m looking at getting the TIS 570 AC/DC earth leakage tester to replace my Megger 305E.
