BMW Rear Brake Pads w Electric Parking Brake
Thank you for the information. BMW was going to charge me around $ 600 dollars. Got the brakes for $75.00. The rest is history
Brian it is such a pleasure to watch and hear you as you work you make things look so easy.
I have searched all over KZhead and I am happy I found your video. You saved my life, thank you so much. Knowledge is power!
Thanks just done rear pads on my F45, 2er active tourer, your video helped me out a lot. F45 has a male peg to drive the handbrake, no need to 'go in with the 45!' Just turn between your fingers. 7mm allen key for slide bolts, screw them right out. Unclip the hose & the caliper can sit on the box the new pads came in.
Great Video Brian, Straight to the point with no clutter and BS. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
I feel like I owe you money. Sat here in a workshop in the UK hoping someone with a computer to wind it back was going to pick up. And no need!! Thanks man
Brian, when you showed how the caliper moved across the rotor, that was very helpful. Thank you.
You saved my life, thank you from Czech Republic
Thanks for posting this! I wouldn't have been able to finish the job without it!
Outstanding video!! I was really wary about going anywhere near the electronic brake without a scan tool but, with your help and advice, I had the job done in little over an hour without rushing and the brakes work perfectly without any error codes or warning lights.Thank you!!
Thanks for this video. Just completed my first ever brake job & would never have even thought of trying if not for this video.
Nice one! Saved me from BMW dealer's price! About £200 saved, I'm doing pads and rottor and I've been scratching my head looking at that solenoid!
What a great video Brian. Thanks for the clear instruction and confidence. I have a BMW and a WV both with rear ebrakes. This will be very useful when I do this service. Thanks again.
Just did back breaks on my Jeep. That was a lot of fun when it comes to the parking brake. It was easy, only hard part was busting moving parts free from rust. After that grease and never seize and blood.
Great job. A+! I would never have attempted it without your video.
Thank you Brian. Love the video. My son just bought a BMW 535I today. Your video will help me saving some $$$. Don't need it right now due to under warranty but will be great for future needs. Thank you and keep up the good work!
Thank you so much, I watched 5 or 6 videos on changing breaks X5 and your video is the BEST. Also thank you for clarifying that computer is only needed to retract electric motor, and it's possible to do it with T45. Overall your video is on tripod, and so easy to watch. Thank you.
Cool! I've always wondered what those assemblies look like. Haven't had the chance to work on one yet. Thanks for posting this, Brian! :)
That's for you video, just changed the back pads today, very helpful 👌, thanks from Declan in southern Ireland
Great tutorial. Just got my first BMW and was a little nervous that my time moonlighting as a mechanic were over. Not nearly as complicated as I anticipated. Thank you!
You're welcome- there are also tricks that you can put it in service mode from the drivers seat too. I know how on Ford, Porche, and VW, but not sure on BMW. I'm sure there's a way though.
Just changed the brakes on a F10 thanks for the video Brian.
Love the way you did this video love how you explained everything made it easy for me to do
Good and Simple video. Very clear and audible.
You saved my day. And client's too. Thank you!
Liked your KZhead on 5 series hand brake, brake pad replacement clear and very informative Only flew back from dallas to Sydney Australia 17 hour flight the 2.5 hour flight to Auckland NZ I have a 2011 grand tourismo 550i Park brake warning just came on today hence watching your video thankyou
Thanks for the info! i have a BMW X5 for a year, now i can do my brakes with confidants, that is true Brian that the parking brake hold is real good and it has a safety feature built in it as well, the parking brake will come on automatically and it will stop the vehicle from moving if there is a door open, this was a good video
Same technique worked on my 2018 Vauxhall insignia, cheers man
It just can not get any simpler!!...awesome job explaining, thanks!!
I have told people before there is no reason to change brakes sensors because it's nothing but a ground wire. I thought I was the only person who didn't. Great video and great minds think alike.
Great video! Super easy to follow and I love the tips for the DIY mechanic. Thank you for taking the time to make it :)
Excellent detail, sir! Rare these days! Nice job and thanks!
Brian, you are a lifesaver.Thank you so much for your help
Thanks for this will be doing the rears next week, just finished the fronts.
You make it look so easy Brian! I'm still working up my confidence to do my brakes, even though I've watched it being done dozens of times. Thanks for the video.
+Mathew Wood Welcome Matt!
@@briansmobile1 LOL...he said, Welcome Matt
Nice vid very informative thanks bro ❤️
@@Crondar777, I see what you did there. 😉😂😂
And by the way, thanks for the video. Your videos are always clear and very helpful
Hey bud you really helped me out was not aware of the electric motor step. Hueh....saved me an are and a leg. Great stuff keep it up
2023 and my Z4 brake indicator light is on. checked the front and had literally brand new barely worn pads. So I need rear pads..sigh. I ordered and replaced the front cause I already bought em from Slamazon, so ordered the rear ones after watching your video. Next project is to change em and I was wondering HTF to do that without the brake scan tool to set it in maintenance mode. THANKS to you I now have the knowledge and can say a giant F.U. to the BMW Dealers $1900 brake job they quoted me.
Excellent detailed video. Worked a treat. Hope you still keep uploading more BMW 5 series videos
Great video. I have to do brakes on my kid's car, and this really helps, thank you!
Great video I have an X5 and helped me out a lot with the electric motor thang
I wanted to say thank you so much for your video. I was struggling to understand how to push back that rear piston. I have a 2021 BMW X3 with the electronic Park , and your video came in really handy today. Thank you!! thank you!! thank you!!
You saved my life my 2016 550i has parking brake actuator on both rear calipers this video saved my life
Great description of the electric brake, good video
Hi, Many thanks for going to the trouble of putting this video together with a very good picture and audio, it is very much appreciated. In the end my job was made easier by the fact that BMW on X5 F15 2.0L Diesel S-Drive (Australian model) have relocated the electric motor away from either rear calliper ... I suspect this might be the same for other X5 F15 Models, but I don’t know. The BMW X5 F15 2.0L Diesel S-Drive (Australian model) also use two E-Torx E14 bolts to attach the rear calliper on its mounting bracket. It’s the same on the front too ... and both are single calliper pistons. I can’t recommend it but I had no trouble using my standard 14mm socket to remove them. I’d anticipate as you move up the model range the bigger callipers will use bigger bolts. I also changed the rotors and on this BMW X5 F15 2.0L Diesel S-Drive (Australian model) they use a 5mm Hex to attach the rotor to the axel hub in addition to to the wheel nuts / lugs. Thanks again for posting the video it is very much appreciated. Regards, Matthew
worked perfectly on my 2012 528i xdrive. thanks a million
Thanks for this video!! Saved the day over here and all went well!!
Superb demonstration of professionalism.
I know about trying to twist these in as I damaged the passenger rear of my RLX and now have to find a replacement from a used parts supplier, much more reasonable than the dealer and I can replace it myself...funny how you break something, then become an expert at it!!!!! Thanks again for great video footage, I have learned to research before touching these newer autos. i have found a replacement caliper assembly for just under $100, verses a new one at the dealer for almost $845, I will install after my cruise is done.
One of the best instructional videos. Thanks for posting. Question- Do you put any grease on the back of the pads and metal contact points?
You sound like a real cool and interesting guy to hang out with. Thanks for the instructional video.
Brain you the man now I can do the rear rotor's brake pads brake sensor with confidence thanks Bro for posting the video
Thank you for the video. It’s helped me today. You seem like a genuine car enthusiast and most definitely, a great technician. I was curious about pumping the brakes on these vehicles. I watched you do it six times but without a bleeder valve. When you compress the piston back in does that not push air into the system?
Good work. Very helpful tip on the e-brake retraction
Got this to do on my X2, thanks for the heads-up.
That’s a really well put together video. I’m about to do mine within the next hour so we’ll see how it goes.
Thanks for the video! I´m going to change on my car this month so it was useful to me.
Best video so far on the e-brake only wish the light was better at times.
Even now it’s so much helpful. Thank you a lot boss
Thanks buddy you saved me a fortune, video is 100% spot on !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks, very well explaind and it was a great help. I almost bought the service computer ))) But this way it was 15 minutes each side, like normally )))
Thanks Brian I bought the tool to disengage the calipers if it doesn't work at least I know how to do it manually. Great videos thanks.
Awesome video, I only worked on this once & wish I knew this then. I did the front. I worked at AVIS/BUDGET at the time so I don't feel bad about it.
Fantastic precise and no nonsense. Thank you
Thanks for the detailed video. That was helpful and very clear.
Thank you for the great video.Good video Brian!
Another video showed how that you could do it by turning the cylinder, but since I only had the adapter with 2 pins I could only try this one. And this one was great.
Glad I could help
Excellent video, thanks for the info, I'll be doing this job soon on my wife's car. I'll do a video too when I do it.
good video, many thanks , job looks scary but isn't, its very simple to do. Both sides only took 30 mins. saved over 400 uk pounds doing it myself compared to main dealer. 640d m sport coupe 2014
Thanks for posting the video, it's very good and made the job much easier than it would have been. Thanks.
u can do it with scanner better then by hand
Great video, very helpful.
@@boghosekmekjian5340 you can let bmw dealer do it better than do it yourself.
What a perfect explanation, I copied everything and was a piece of cake even in the -7 weather outside !!! Well done Sir
Thanks- glad you had success!
Thank you, great info, I have to change my brake soon,
Nice tutorial mister well done.
That was a awesome and down to earth video. Thank you!
GREAT VIDEO! I needed a 16mm and a 13mm for my 2013 (F25)
Great vid. Easy to follow. Saved us some $$ at the shop for sure. Thanks.
Thanks for the video 😊 you saved me 800 bucks! You’re the best😝
Excellent video, high image quality, technical details and explanation, even though my English is very bad. Please note that you did not change the pheno sensor, when should it be changed? Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge
Good stuff! Thanks Brian!
Great vid. thanks for sharing. Do you not use brake pad paste? I used to use it on my e36 M3 years ago. First time doing the brakes on the e70 X5...
You saved me from a big headache. Thanks
Thanks brother .great video on bmw elect. Brke.you rock ..will be contributing to your charity soon
Wow that car has a bunch of neat sensors. I've never heard of a brake pad sensor but it sounds so logical and easy to put one in there it makes a lot of sense. I really like that car except for the electric e-brake. Give me a cable and mechanical control any day. Great video, learned a lot, liked!
+DJDevon3 Thanks- I didn't like it at first either. I really do like it now. Especially effective for BMW owners/drivers.
Hello, from Spain, Madrid. good work, I have a bmw f10 550d from 2016, your tutorial will be very good, thank you for your work and share it ..

Thank you very much for Excellent and very good clear pictures. I have a tool Autophix ES910 with special function in which i can deactivate the electric parking brake. By doing it I dont need to do the manual as you do in our video. Right?
Thanks, excellent, clear and easy to understand!
Great video, man! Helped me out a lot! Thanks!
Brian, Thanks for the helpful advice on how to get this done. Got the brake pads replaced, but when I reinstalled the EPB motors, and finished up, I cannot get the EPB to now work or reset. Any thoughts? Thanks again for the great tutorial!!!
Thanks a lot God bless you. Now I'm fixing my bmw.

Excellent break installation video.
Got my sub, very Informational and actually works!
I have a 2012 Volkswagen CC with electric parking brakes. I would guess it's similar to this. If you have ever gotten into one, was there anything extra or different on those cars verses this BMW? Thanks for the great vids!
Nice job. Informative and entertaining.
