  • Hey guys hope you enjoyed the video! So much stress and emotion leading into and during this freak swell!! It was all worth it! This is undoubtedly the most intense wave in the world when your ride into that west bowl and feel the power on a beatdown! Enjoy the video all! I am in all black with blue tow board for wave reference!

  • At the end of the road the ocean arises. Teahupo'o is so different from any other wave. The week after the 2016 contest a bigger swell came through, only Dane Gudauskas, Nathan Fletcher and locals like Matahi and Tikanui in the water. Shooting from the lineup in Gerard 'Poi' Smith's nutshell was a life changing experience. The pure Polysesian kindness also is very unique and will let you leave the islands with the biggest smile. Nate, keep it up!

  • Hey Nathan, I care and so I am saying this. I am at 3:08 into your video. And yes you are correct the hold downs are not the concern, but as you say the impact is. I cannot know yet, are you wearing a helmet. Jokes aside man-I say this with respect-protect yourself. No matter what the chatter is, when you are deepest in the pit of a roaring beast no one cares about the protection, they just care when you get blown out of a spectacle of a wave. Remember, same BS about vests 5 years ago, than Dorian proved it saves lives. There is not an NFL player a NHL player or a NBL batter at the base not wearing one. Advocate for yourself and others who are putting their faith in their equipment and Mother Nature. Seriously the size and absolute power of this and many waves deserves our attention. Sorry to sound like grandma, but grandma knew best and if anyone argued you would smack them right! And just a side note, where is Kai?

    @atreyuschronicles8589@atreyuschronicles85892 жыл бұрын
    • Yeah, no clue why these guys don't wear helmets. Especially since they all ride Pipe, the most dangerous wave in the world - because of the risk of hitting your head...

      @cowboydoc@cowboydoc2 жыл бұрын
    • @@cowboydoc nothing worse than hitting bottom or getting axed by your board. Crap at pipe as crowded as it gets you could get axed by another surfer themself. I don't know, pro athletes wear helmets and as the bar raises for size and intensity of wave-why not. With global warming there seems to be a rise in wave heights-maybe cyclical-but before long surfers may have to wear full body suits kind of like armor that keep them from blowing to pieces-yeah maybe I have been up to long today. But seriously, 110 foot set wave at Nazare could very well warrant some equipment upgrades. Hey, why isn't Kai Lenny out here? When I think about it, I don't think I have ever seen him at making teahupoo. I'm crashing.

    • There is no lip this so called wave has no lip I don't know if they can measure the bite force as it slams onto the reef but it's got to have the strongest "bite " In nature.......it's got to be like slamming on pavement going at least 15 r 20 mph ????? King Kong's Kung Fu Grip BTW it's one thing to even be able to surf this place but making it look ez too is border line cruel...lol...damn makes me so proud I don't know why..yes I do but can't explain it.

    @grimmace1002@grimmace10022 жыл бұрын
    • Helmets are very appropriate for those that can wear them, it throws off my senses and reflexes so much it might cause me to wipeout so its kinda a weird call for me,

      @NathanFlorence@NathanFlorence2 жыл бұрын
    • @@NathanFlorence people never take this into consideration. for someone at such a high level that's never used a helmet throughout their entire career, it's hard to just throw one on and expect to be as comfortable as they were before. your reasoning is perfectly sound and you know what's best for your safety more than anyone else!

  • Hearing you say "I don't know if I want one" really puts it into perspective. How are you guys not dead? 😳 How shallow does that get?

    • Relatively deep until you have that heavy piledriver lip on your head...when you're paddling out watching the bombs coming in, it really feels like the ocean lifting rather than a "wave". She's a bit of an eerie one...

    • @@andreapirlol4301 Yeah, there are a few videos that catch this from a good angle and you can see the water level following the sloping contour of the reef in front of the wave. The sucking effect is obvious on some paddle-ins too where the guys are not actually moving forward even at full tilt 😃

    • i guess when the wave breaks all that water displacement is pushing upward ? idk, was wondering how they lived too

    • When you see the power and hear it and watch another human fall, you think 100% they are dead, its gambling for sure, at some point someone will slam the reef and be killed, oddly enough most deaths are on the smaller days at Teahupo’o.
