This video She Ain't Pretty was shot on February 11, 1990 in Toronto, ON.
For the Total Eclipse film crew this was video #7 and what a great time it was.
The small bar we are playing in was constructed inside a huge warehouse and the concept was for us to be hanging around this roadside bar in the afternoon when this attractive woman walks in and we hop up on stage to play the song. I felt it important to show that my stage gear was not properly setup, so when I pull the curtain off the drums you can see that my floor tom & crash cymbal are 6 feet away, it was meant to be spontaneous.
We used some tricks in the filming with the woman's head spinning around, the glass breaking in her hand and of course the clay animation done by Hall Train Moving Picture Company.
We had the late Stan Szelest (1943 - 1991) come back for the video to re-create his amazing piano playing that he did on the recording with us at Bearsville studios a few months earlier. It was his 44th birthday & was very nice of him to spend it with us making this video. I remember back on that night of the recording when we picked Stan up from the train station in Kingston, NY. It was by then close to midnight so we figured he would want to get some sleep, but Stan said, "it's a full moon tonight boys, let's rock".
What a great guy!
So we did, and by the time we got back to the studio & ready to roll it was after 1:00am. We all played live in the big studio & Stan was setup in studio B with the piano all by himself, thankfully we had headphones.
Enjoy.
