Lyrics:
It's been a hard day in the city
It affects you in the most peculiar way
Dull day don't seem pretty
We've said all that there is to say
And if you were to ask me questions
You don't really want to know
Your concern is just for show, just for show
Your name's a number, just press a button
Your memories lost but they've not forgotten
They try to break our lust for passion
They try to tell us that it's not in fashion
And if you were to ask me questions
What are we fighting for
We're just breaking down the door
It doesn't really matter
I've been through this all before
It doesn't really matter
They fight in England and Northern Ireland
The police, they try to hold us still
They can bleed us and they can feed us
But you know they'll never control our will
And if you were to ask that question
What are we fighting for
We're just breaking down the door
It doesn't really matter
I've been through this all before
It doesn't really matter to me
It doesn't really matter
I've been through this all before
It doesn't really matter to me
It doesn't really matter, oh
It doesn't really matter
It doesn't really matter
It doesn't really matter
It doesn't really matter
It doesn't really matter
It doesn't really matter
It doesn't really matter
It doesn't really matter
It doesn't really matter
It doesn't really matter
It doesn't really matter
It doesn't really matter
It doesn't really matter
It doesn't really matter
It doesn't really matter
It doesn't really matter
Canadian Gold.
Agreed 1000% 😉🙏❤✌🍁
Damn effen rights! We killed the music industry in the 80's 🤘😎
👊👊
Agreed, btw I know the band members😁😉
The 80s when Canadian bands toured the high schools. So many great bands!
Omg they came to my cousin's high school in Scarborough when they weren't quite as big yet but I had heard about them. Michael Damien opened for them. I was so close to the make shift stage. A fond memory of my teenage years.
I think they put on a show on Clarke High school ....I was so envious...as a Bowmanville high schooler.
They were my first concert of hundreds , mostly metal, but none the less, they kicked me off at 12 years old and other than that , nothing really matters ..
@@ED80s God, you're old too. Great times, wasn't it?
Yup Notre Damer here
A good Canadian Rock band, thanks for posting this song.
I always thought they were from the UK weird
@@firebladex8586 The fake accent will do that to ya.
@@KarstenJohansson lol...do some research boy.....It's a Canadian band yes...but the lead singer Mark Holmes was born in Mansfield, England so NO it's not a fake accent.
It effects you in the most peculiar way.
Nothin will ever beat Helix though
Our 80s Canadian rock bands were the best!!!!
I just can't understand why music sounded so much better in the 80s than it does today.
Because this was life before Auto-Tune, so they relied on their talent.
Talent my friend, today it's all computers
Very music lover, like us
One of the most underrated bands of all time. I friggin love these guys.
Me too. I still have the cassette
100 per cent agreed! So many Canadian bands deserved international fame. To name a few April Wine, Triumph, Prism, Streetheart, Alphie Zappacosta....the list goes on...
@@MrScoop70 didnt know steelheart was canadian, now i do, thanks
😂 they’re good, but definitely not underrated, this is their best song and they have maybe a handful of others that are “Ok” that definitely doesn’t quality them for underrated.
@@thesnowflakesaremelting1016 I’m glad we disagree. Love these guys.
Most people don’t realize that this band has 4-5 of the very best songs of the 80’s
Trailer Park Boys Turned me onto this song over 10 years ago and it still slaps...........
Geez, this song just slaps, what a killer tune !
Unlike most of their tunes.. It is funny this is the only real rocker. They should have done more like this
@@countzero1972 literally every song from the first 2 albums are golden.
@@countzero1972 Standing In The Dark is equally as amazing. Situation Critical and Cryin' Over You are good too but not nearly as good as their first two big hits.
I've seen Platinum Blonde twice. Once in the 80's and once a few years ago. And even after 30 odd years they still sounded great. I freakin' love this song!
Sergio Galli is a underrated guitarist and Mark Holmes can still sing .
Party 🎉
How lucky for you! I can't believe these bands are still playing/touring but if you love what you do, why not!
Is this not one of this greatest rock tracks from Canada in the 80s!!! Fantastical, indeed!
Ya very cool
The Northern Ireland reference gets me every time. Grew up in the worst of the Troubles, we lost family members, this song and Invisible Sun by The Police take me back to what was a strange time in my childhood life.
I woke up with this song in my head this morning. I probably haven’t heard it for 30 years. But there it was, so here I am. Great ‘80’s music.
was born in the 90's and I still miss the 80's.
Me too...reminisce...
Here from trailer park boys

The peak of Canadian rock.
@Luther Blissett Nickleback sucks and so does Geddy Lee's voice.
Yes, Canadian pop rock.
did you really just say that ?
Stop digging in the ashtray buddy this is a gentleman’s club
the way she goes.
Your with the ash tray minor
I’m properly gentlemanly
Stealing drinks…. You see this I brought this from home!
We got caught stealing drinks...
are you sitting comfortably, then we will begin.
Best song to represent the magic of the 80s!!! 🤟🇨🇦🤟 Outstanding group!
How did these guys not rule in the 80's? They had the look and the sound
They ruled Canadian airwaves in the early 80s. Not really well known elsewhere.
With those vocals, I don't think so
@@amberwadlington8812 u dont know shiite
They were very big in the 80's here in Canada. Humpty Dumpty Chios had band members cards in the bag. Like mini sports cards.
When my brother got married he had his after party at River Cree Casino , in Edmonton..... We could hear them playing their show the entire time.... THAT WAS DEFINITELY CANADIAN GOLD👇🏼
And just last year they received a star on Canada's Walk of Fame.
Timeless classic. These guys should be synonymous worldwide with bands like Duran Duran and The Police. Will always love and listen to Platinum Blonde, Kenny wasn’t here yet, but I feel his presence in every PB song I listen too.
Completely agree!! ❤️🔥🇨🇦 One of my very first concerts… meeting them as a preteen was amazing. I remember Kenny in particular. He called my bff & I “cute”. Rip 😢💔
@@sophiecat14 Kenny was actually my mentor, and a great friend, I miss him, think about him every day. =)
They released some great songs, but unfortunately there weren’t a lot of them. They released lots of duds. That’s why they aren’t on the same level as Duran Duran or The Police, who had a lot more hits. Also, The Police and Duran Duran transitioned well into new decades, whereas PB didn’t do well in the 90’s. But hey, at least they can say they accomplished more than what 99.9% of bands do. And they helped shape a decade.
Well subjectively I liked almost all of their songs, but the real reason they didn’t make it bigger was being signed on a label that only had them promoted and playing Canadian TV and radio during the peak of their releases. It wasn’t until Contact that they ventured outside of Canada on a different label, but unfortunately the era of that sound was over and also the band was self destructing from within. I got a lot of insight from Kenny over the course of our friendship.
I remember seeing Mark Holmes running through the Eaton's Center when he was still working at the House of Lords while they were starting to hit it big. Iconic. I miss that time so much.
Platinum Blonde: Standing in the Dark is probably the definitive album of my childhood. I first heard it in 1986, when my brother got it for a high school graduation gift, and I made a copy (on cassette) which I played over and over all summer. Loved this song in particular, but that whole album holds a special place in my heart. I finally managed to get a copy on CD (for a lot of money) in 2002, and then the new remastered one in 2014. Still one of my personal favorites.
The day I saw this band live was the best day of my life
yeah they sound fab in concert. didn't have much personality though. maybe just had a tired night. was really surprised how much big sound they put out for 3 guys!
So many early 80s Canadian bands that really should of been much bigger. The music coming out Canada in the early to mid 80s was good as anything coming of the UK at the time time. Same with the music videos. Platinum Blonde Spoons Blue Peter Rational Youth FM/ Nash the Slash
This shits good, wish I lived in the 80's
Yes I remember it well
people just dont realize HOW MANY KICK ASS BANDS WE HAVE HAD HERE
Can you list some of them? I'm new to Platinum Blonde but they're awesome, would very much like to check out some more great 1980s Canadian bands. Thanks!
@@known_unknown284 Early to mid-eighties typical Canadian rock bands: April Wine, Triumph, Streetheart, Aldo Nova, Honeymoon Suite, The Spoons, Red Rider, Rush (but you probably heard of em before), Corey Hart, Brian Adams, Martha & the Muffins, Toronto, Loverboy, Chilliwack, Headpins, Kim Mitchell, Payolas, Rough Trade, in no particular order... Most well-known: Rush, Bryan Adams, Corey Hart Underrated (not in Canada): April Wine, Red Rider, The Spoons (so unusual, try Arias and Symphonies)
@@Blackmallowtube Awesome! Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it. I will check these out.
Loverboy, The Spoons, Bryan Adams, Neil Young, The Smashing Pumpkins; the list is long! The Extras did this really forward-looking song called 'The Watcher' about a stalker way before that kind of thing was current and Skinny Puppy invented Death Metal in 1984, years before Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails came along. Canadian bands had the problem though, of distribution. Canadian record companies couldn't easily get their records into USA stores, radio airplay opportunities were often few except on looser 'graveyard shift' programming after midnight and Canadian music TV programs weren't carried on any USA networks. So it was always a harder struggle for Canadian labels and artists had to try and sign with a USA label to break into the market. I think it made us work harder!
Another great Canadian band from the great 80's
I remember watching this at 2 in the morning after smoking some potent weed and just zoned right into this video...I think that was 1983. Best times.
Mad love from New Zealand this song is truly gold💯
yess
Absolutely iconic!
Thanks to the Trailer Park Boys, this is the song that lives rent free in my head every time I walk into a pub or bar. I almost start looking around for the boys and Lucy.
that is the same thing i think about every time i hear this song.
We don’t steal drinks bud. Bubbles what the hell happened. We got caught stealing drinks.
80s at it's best!
One of the best 80's Canadian songs! But the iconic start of the video and song is missing! "Are you sitting comfortably? Then we'll begin." Happy to see this remastered video!
Weird - they added that beginning to the remastered video for Crying Over You.
@@cjpew check out Boom97.3 Beyond The Vinyl interview. Mark Holmes revealed it his mother speaking it before the song Doesn’t Really Matter starts. Good interview!
@@MAggie07May Thanks. But I'm still curious about the intro now playing on Crying Over You instead of Doesn't Really Matter on these remastered videos. Did someone mess up or was that intentional?
@@cjpew That does sound like an unintentional cockup, although how it was even possible in the first place, who knows? Great remastering, otherwise!! CHEERS!
@@MAggie07MayIf I remember correctly, somebody told me his mom's recording had also been widely used in scholastic settings. CHEERS!
Mark Holmes, oh what a beautiful voice you have. He and Platinum Blonde played at Century Casino and wish came true Thirty years later, I seen them in concert. They played 110 percent. What a voice and band
Families friends with mark holmes, always heard he was in a group but it never clicked in my mind until one day I asked. Biggest shock was when I realized every year on Boxing Day I would be seeing the legend himself. Still amazes me to this day!
so... *SO* 80s amazing
Speaking into 2022 & beyond. The wisdom behind the lyrics ✔️
I met Mark Holmes in the winter at High Park a couple of years ago. He saw I saw feeding 100 hungry ducks at the Park beside the River and he just came up to me and started feeding them with me he was so cute. We even knew the same Indigenous Elders it was a magical day and he was there with his music video director they were scouting out a spot to film a new music video.
What a frickin band from Canada awesome
Any jokes aside ..... these blokes were unique especially for a Canadian group. And they were honestly a very good band, with a lotta great power pop / punky songs. And that's all that really matters.
The sheen on of that lip gloss is Next Level.
Finally a quality copy of this Absolute Classic!
Well it's about time! It's been a decade of me complaining about the quality of Platinum Blonde's online video presence. Big step up on this one going from a bootlegged Much Music video recorded on a VHS player in SLP mode to a fully remastered 1080p video! Great work & much thanks! Looking forward to working with you guys again when you next tour Winnipeg!
What's "Much Much"? Never heard of it LOL
@@OVI-Wan-Kenobi-8 It's the name of what was called MuchMusic. They changed it after they stopped playing music videos.
Much much , omg haven't heard that in ages lol, eh..
The message from this song is that we are all slaves to the system and we are all trying to break down the door towards our freedom of love, peace, joy and bliss.
Best band ever
Facts
chills everytime
From a better time, almost forgotten.
This is crazy that I am just hearing of this band.
It's ok, never too late ! Pls enjoy, doesn't get better than this lol
I saw platinum blonde in concert four times. Great times I Caught the drummers drum stick
Iconic drum solo
To me this is probably the best album is grew up to.Every song was lit.
This should have way more than 300k views.
Should have millions of views.
Getting there. More like it now.
Wow I just don't remember this song? Or Platinum Blondes for that matter? Well, I was pretty friggin high in 1984. Hell I was high most the 80s! LOL 😮😅
Dawn of the video age! Great to see a remaster and good music will always be timeless. Canada’s band!
I was searching for platinum blonde hair color and this masterpiece showed up, neat
My first year legal drinking age just moved to Toronto from small east coast town, this blaring on Younge Street Friday night at the Big Slice pizza😅
On tämä ittiänsä, eli 80--lukua. Näitä lisää.
Fucking fantastic music from my teenage years.
Awesome 80's
Wow, I forgot about this song. Great to hear it again
Platinum Blonde started out as a PUNK Band, Check out their early stuff. I love ALL their LPs. MARK has 1 of the most Unique Voices ever, Even as a Skate-Punk/Metal Kid growing up I would BLAST Platinum blonde & even my punk friends said they had great riffs/bass lines etc etc. It be cool if PB would release a BLURAY with every Pro-Shot Video of Complete Concerts from the 1980s
still touring to this day
Touring with Billy this summer!
Always reminds me of drinkin whiskey...16 yrs old...my best friend Alfred...gettin pissed an rockin out lol...🇨🇦
The 80’s had the best music and my teenage years in the Bronx was Super Awesome
A great Canadian song
Holy crap! I can’t believe you guys finally remastered the videos, I hope that you release the whole Nathan Phillips Square show one day cause that would be awesome.
They're still trying to tell us Its not in fashion
The message from this song is that we are all slaves to the system and we are all trying to break down the door towards our freedom of love, peace, joy and bliss.
2:39-2:51, so cool is the sound of electric drums!
Sounds very similar to the drum break in the middle of Duran Duran’s “Careless Memories”, you can hear the influence here, it’s great! Love both bands!
Are you sitting comfortably?🪑 I’m definitely sitting comfortably listening to this song. This is the best Canadian band
then we will begin.
The Italian stallion Sergio!
What an awesome band! I wish I heard this song sooner. It's great. Better now than never!
LIVE Downtown Kitchener Ontario, AWESOME as always.
GENTLEMAN'S Club.
Absolutely killer song. I first heard these guys in 2014 opening for Glass Tiger and was blown away. Went to see them at the CNE later that summer and then in Mississauga and Markham in 2015, Belleville in 2016 (where they opened for Vince Neil. Should have been the other way around!), and then again in Mississauga in 2019. Every time, they put on a hell of a show. Hoping I have a chance to see them again soon!
Please tell me you have delved deeper into to CanCon.
This entire album is a masterpiece. Listen to the album & be magically raptured back in time is reality.
Very underrated band saw them early 80s great live ,thanx for cleaning it up good video!
I didn't think much of them at the time- but now I see that (at least this video) Canada did bite in the 80's apple hard :)
I'm an American and I love this song lol. Definitely here from trailer park boys btw
Trailer Park Boys movie brought me here.. love this oldie!
He has the best hair
this song has such a high level of intensity..fantastic
Awesome! The algorithm got me - yep, I was a fan of Platinum Blonde, & STILL AM. Brill!
They rocked
Thank you Jebus Love it
Seeing these guys live tomorrow
Kick ASS ROCK
Mom does it really matter that i wasn’t born in the 80s but I enjoy the 80s and 90s music more. No it doesn’t. Me so then it doesn’t really matter like the song by platinum blonde
At 0:06 I remember the sentence "C'est vache ça" (At least that's what I hear even if it's not what we hear all...) ; ) Great band, great memories !
Tpb bought me here yo!
Ohhh fuckk yea bud
Are you sitting comfortably? Then we'll begin.....
Mark Holmes is like a cross between Elvis Costello and Limahl.
Platinum Blonde with Mark Holmes rules
Oddly enough I heard this song years ago then just rewatched the trailer park Boys movie and it's stuck in my head now
I never knew they were Canadian.Cool!👍🏾🇨🇦
I don’t care about the critics .the drum roll in this was a short but most remembered drum roll of all times
Glad to see this posted Never knew how amazing this video was - had only seen bad copies before.
