    • I have a friend who did the same thing, gave it away. Was way too much money to repair it and the cost to have it demolished and taken away was crazy. Mobile homes are considered real property even when renting a space from a mobile home park. I'm not certain the plaintiff was in a mobile home park, but it sounds like it. If it's salvageable and you have the extra money to invest in it, especially if it's given to you, I'd try.

    • Of course, but it was the obligation of the contractor to say "Sorry, I can't fix this", NOT take thousands of dollars, rip out the walls, and then LEAVE! That Defendant is a scumbag, and if you watch the whole case, that becomes VERY clear.

  • The contract seems clear to me. A contractor should not take a loss if there is water damage and termite infestation. As long as he shows the customer what he found and doesn't start without communicating it, then it's fine. Her mechanic's analogy doesn't always work. If you have to replace an engine and you find out the mounts are completely damaged from a section you cannot sse unless you remove the engine, then that has to be added. As long as you communicate it.

    @casual35@casual3513 күн бұрын

    • You're right! She got what she paid for. J J. is kind of clueless on trailers . Plaintiff wanted something for nothing. She could have bought a better trailer with the money she gave him. The fact she called it a house should give you an idea of what she was about. Who gives a rats ass what she chooses to live in.

      @biff5856@biff585613 күн бұрын
    • But shouldn't the mechanic have checked out the engine and seen that the mounts are ruined in the first place, and then given an estimate? I don't know much about the subject, so I'm curious.

I'm wondering what the procedure is, and if JJ was right and that the guy should have checked the inside of the walls, or whether (as some others have said in the comments) that's something that you find later and then make an addendum to the contract.

There CAN BE and usually are extenuating circumstances that are relevant to the case and JJ doesn't let people speak and paint the FULL picture. That's why the defendant is getting angry and frustrated. I would NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS go before JJ to resolve any dispute.

  • Sorry, but there is literally no way to know what the damage is behind the walls, especially on a trailer, without opening up the walls, and no sane person is going to allow a contractor to open up walls just to bid on the job. Trailer walls are often 2x3 as well, so they have less structural support and are more easily damaged by water.

    • My husband has been a very successful contractor for over 20 years. No one would take a piece of a wall out just to see what’s behind there. When bidding, you’d do a walk thru, but not start damaging the walls etc… lol. What if you give them the bid (after figuring out the cost of supplies, labor etc..) and they decide against it and go with a diff company? Then they have a hole in the wall for no reason? lol you don’t know the damage until the work is started, in which an addendum would be made to the contract

But, seriously, if you started looking around this place and you realized how bad it was, wouldn’t you have either said, “Thanks, no thanks”, or you would’ve started poking around more and more, tapping the walls, bouncing the floors, trying to open the windows, working the doors, crawling underneath and looking at the roof? You would have had a far better idea of what you were getting yourself into long before you started to scribble up a contract, right? This guy didn’t do half of that stuff. It sounds like he did a 10 or 15 minute walk through and then told her this would be a big job - but this place needed a 1 or 2 hour in-depth look around before a contractor who’s worth his weight would’ve even began to start crunching numbers.

    • I can hear the radio inside his head: “Women are stupid. Women are stupid. Women are stupid.” He’s clearly one of “those” guys.

  • I agree he has anger issues. But me owning a 100yr old home, sometimes contractors don’t see things until they break into something. Especially flooring

    • This wasn't that. And it would be easy to just lift the corner of a couple panels of the siding and take a look underneath.

  • I LOVE Judge Judy, but this channel is WAY too cluttered. Don't give me, Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4. It makes it ridiculously tedious to scroll through, looking for a specific story. Have been looking for a story that interested me for 15 minutes...which I never found ,as the result of every story having 4 or 5 episodes. Please consider cleaning it up.
