You need to turn the cardboard 90⁰ so the wire is running across the grain

yea for me this was heavy duty cardboard but I can see the need to do that if it was lighter stuff too

I made a similar traps before and the problem is the glued seeds that they grab when they fall, they do get tired and falling in but with the trap open some are getting out, peanut butter works great but not in winter same problem, to fix it put a transparent tape over it on the fare side the other side open it doesn't matter they can't hold on to it, you'll see how much more you'll catch. I just made it and right away I could see the need for an important addition to guarantee greater efficiency - counter weights. Tape 4 inch nails on each side parallel to the fulcrum. They make the swinging more positive and stable, ensure that the cardboard returns to a secure horizontal position right away to minimise the chance of a gap for the mouse/rat to escape. You can adjust the position of the nails until it's perfectly balanced.

Great idea! I used hot glue on the bottom of the other side as the counterweight. The counterweight is a must to return it back to the closed position.

@@ninjadiy2022I just made it and made a good modification to make it more efficient - counterweights. I taped 4 inch nails on the underside on each side parallel to the fulcrum. They stabilise the swinging motion and ensure that the cardboard returns to the horizontal position quickly and stays there so there's no chance of a gap for the mouse or rat to escape, and there's more resistance with the little extra weight. You can adjust the position of the nails until they're perfectly balanced and the swing stops abruptly. Try it

rats may fall inside but considering how big they are and how easy that cardboard flips Im sure they can just jump out of the bucket.
@believers20128 ай бұрын
No they stay in actually, as they have nothing to grab onto even if they jump... maybe a racoon sized rat but then you got bigger problems :)
