Make a ● Simple Bottle Mousetrap ( that works ! )

2018 ж. 11 Қыр.
2 507 494 Рет қаралды

A mousetrap you can make yourself all from recyclables! It's humane because it's capture and release. Easy to build, easy to bait, easy to release and best of all it's humane and there's no springs or levers to wind up or load. The mouse cannot escape. Mice are not harmed in any way during capture or release. Mice can be captured, released and let go calmly and easily. A 2L coke bottle and a few other common items is all you'll need for this mousetrap.

    • Make that 2 mice ! Got another one last night with this trap. I may have one suggestion for improvement if its used for a live trap. This mouse was unresponsive when I found him, I think he cut off his air supply by staying at the spout end of the bottle all night. So I melted a 1/4" air whole on the top with a soldering iron. Shortly...the little guy woke up and looked at me like WTF !!

  • I would've never looked this up but I heard a noise in my bread garage cabinet just now 5 am. I looked inside it and saw a mouse inside my plastic tall olive oil bottle jumping trying to get out and the bottle was 1/4 full of oil! I lost the cover so he was able to get in. I can't believe they can climb up slippery plastic bottles! He would've drowned if he didn't keep standing up the poor thing! I screamed. I couldn't believe what I was looking at. I immediately brought it outside. Lucky for him it's raining out so hopefully some oil will come off him. I dumped the oil out and kept the bottle tipped at an angel so he can climb out. I waited and waited but he was just sitting at the edge cleaning himself. After 20 min I was soaked so I left it and went inside. I'm gonna make this bottle now. Thanks!

  • First trap I've ever built. I got 4 mice so far tonight (1 at a time, catch and release) and its just now about time for bed. Might be 5 by tomorrow Dont know how many I have. Thought 1 or 2, but I was very wrong. Got at least 1 to go. Awesome trap! Thanks! I would recommend taping the pen to the bottle to avoid heat warping. I used metal ducting tape. Strong and thin. Also hot glue hot glue sticks to bottle caps over pen to avoid them knocking the bottle loose. They did that 2 or 3 times tonight before I modified it. Now it's perfect. I'm using a wyze came to watch from upstairs. Night vision ftw. :) Update: got 5 before I went to bed at 1am. Set it up around 5pm. Much of that was catching 1 at a time, releasing in the field down the street, reserting the trap, and fixing and modifying the trap as they were able to escape until I made changes. My father caught 2 more by the time I woke up this morning. Lol This trap is amazing.

    @BFArch0n@BFArch0n3 жыл бұрын
    • Well yeah... The problem with "catch and release" is that one female mouse has 8 litters a year, with about 6 mice per liter. There's a population of 7 billion people and 20 billion mice. So that's about 3 mice for every 1 person. If you have a home with a family of 5 humans... Then you might have up to 15mice on that property also. Some studied suggest that your never more than 6-12ft away from a mouse at any given time. Also, since covid started mice have been on the increase. With more people working from home or places being shut down they have been going crazy and moving around more to find sources of food. The reason the bait and release doesn't work is because they have a strong sense of smell and can locatate that for miles and very easily come back since they like to stay within the same areas because they choose their homes based off of availability of food, since for their body size they need to eat a lot of food a day compared to humans and some other animals. They eat up to 3x their body weight or mass in food a day. Their teeth also don't stop growing so they constantly chew so they don't grow into the roof of their mouths into their brains. Your best bet is to use the old fashioned wooden traps. Lay about 5-6 of them around the house. (Near your stove is the best, under it and on top by the back burner...especially if you have an electric stove since they often climb up the back exhaust burner) for bait use peanuts glued onto the trap or a lil bit of peanut butter.... I found the glued peanuts to work best. They might be cute but they spread a lot of illness and diseases. Killing is the best option or you'll quickly get an investigation that can be difficult to stop. They can also chew your wires and cause damage to your home or house goods.
