  • Tony mentions that the a6600 does not have a flip screen and he could not see himself when doing a selfie. That A6600 actually does have a screen that can be flipped to face forward. Just grab the screen from the bottom, pull it toward you and then swivel it up. It is now positioned (mostly) above the camera and facing forward.

    • Yes, but what if you use a top-mounted microphone (like most) or any other accessory ? That's why Tony's point is relevant : not a tilting (and unobstructed) screen.

    • I mean, the Fuji XH2s, XH2, and XT5 are arguably all better APS-C cameras than any of these, but are a little more expensive. I’d think the X-S20 would make sense for sure. This channel has a pretty well-documented anti-Fuji bias. A lot of what is reported about GFX is just inaccurate and Tony seems to be hyper-critical of Fuji’s X autofocus, which I think is only somewhat fair right now. Fuji autofocus has improved a lot…

  • Why would someone choose the APS-C over the FF. The answer is simple because I just made that choice. I'm travelling Asia and the weight of the camera system is a big deal. I'm on the A6400 + Sony 11mm F1.8 + Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 + Sony 85mm F1.8 = 1.25kG total. It's not the weight of the body thats the issue, its the weight of those FF lenses. I sold my FF A7RIII and FF lenses in order to 'downgrade' to the lighter system. The lighter weight is just so much nicer to travel with.

  • Thanks for the review Tony, I think you have missed a few things, I have a A6600 and it's and all round camera for me, landscape, astro and wildlife, occasional portraits and ocourse video. It would have been good if you added in that this camera is an all-rounder and included sensor performance for low light in stills, also improvements and performance in low light, and stabilisation for video with a long lens. I have invested in Sony and third party lenses so it's an easy choice for me, I'll upgrade to the A6700 when I get a good deal.

  • How do you count sharps and unsharps in the running test ? I have tested the A6700 with the 2.8 70 200 GM2. On static subjects, the pics are sharp up to 170% magnification. On runners coming towards the camera, bright sunlight, 1/2500 s and faster, about 3% are fully sharp, most are sharp up to 100%. I would count only 3% sharp, to be compared to your 83%.

  • The A6600 has more Custom Button options, they have removed the switch button from the 6700's back that I specifically use, and overall I had the impression of intentionally downplaying the a6600 just to promote the newer version. I have NEVER experienced ANY autofocus issues with the A6600 and have no intention of upgrading for what I can tell from the review. Yes, I'd love to have the better LCD and the USB-C and the memory slot inside vs under, but I would miss my Custom Button settings I already have on the A6600. The A6700 is a great camera obviously, but for me, it's not worth the upgrade.

    • @@truthseeker6804 Yes, but I'd happily take an f-stop of low DOF away for the portability and cost reduction of lenses for travel. Not so much for portraiture, but most travel/street/journalism photography is fine with a bit more in focus. I think there's a place for APS-C and it's not a valid argument to suggest that when prices of APS-C and full frame bodies are similar that full frame is a logical "winner".

      @InstructorWest@InstructorWest9 ай бұрын
    • @@InstructorWest when the prices are similar, the apsc has to have many specs advantages that would overcome the full frame, then i would say the apsc is worth it for specific usecase. but if the specs difference isnt much, then the full frame is the clear winner. this a6700 is a good camera, my issue with this camera, its slightly overpriced. it shouldve been at $1100 and sony should release a better apsc camera to compete with the canon r7, a camera that can be used professionally, dual SD, more megapixel, faster fps. but this a6700 is good for video, but overheats fast tho. its got too many downsides. if you rarely do 4k120p the canon r7 and r8 are much better cameras for similar price.

Focusing speed outside was always pretty fast at least for me. How close are you shooting for the eye, headshots? A crop sensor doesn't change anything on full frame glass not even depth of field. A F2.8 400mm will have the same depth of field and characteristics except it is cropped. APS-C 20 megapixel has about the same pixel density as a full frame 45 megapixel. This was not the case with the older 20 megapixel full frame.

Here is list of the things I didn't like about R7. - shutter shock -AF hunting even with RF 100-400, sometimes you had to peek AF in EVF, cause I got AF confirmation it is locked on subject, but I had to pump that AF-ON button to see it is focused (this was biggest drawback of this camera), this problem is not that big of a deal if subject if filling the frame or contrast is good -32mpix sensor is just too much for normal user, details got crushed in shadows which was critical for my work (I shoot in woods) so sometimes I feel FF would be better solution but FF is not ideal for wildlife on budget and reach Still think ergonomics of R7 are great, battery life is great too. Dual card slots, button customizations, EVF, screen great. It was tough decision to part with it but I just might buy A6700, still have A6100 which has great sensor much better for shadow recovery than R7 and more details in general since 24mpix doesn't resolve lens flaws.

  • I have the full frame Sony A7R IV and I'm seriously considering buying g the A6700 as a second body. Reasons: 1- I can use my existing quality full frame glass, unlike Nikon or Canon. 2- The smaller body is ideal for Street Photography and Travel. I do a lot of event photography, so having these two cameras with me and the A6700 sporting a 16-35mm lens (full frame equivalent of 24-50mm) will be an ideal set up.

    • You can use Nikon FX glass on a DX body. The 24-70F4S is great on the Z50/Zfc/Z30. Not only that but with the ETZ21 you can mount ANY Sony lens to the Z-mount. I've used the 15mmf1.4G on my Z50 too. I'm getting an a6700 for my f2.8 Tamron zooms. Nikon's Expeed7/8 will narrow the gap. HUGE shout out to Sony for how much better the color looks compared to the others in this video!

  • My a6700 should arrive Aug 15. Can't wait. It is mostly for the ai auto focus that I wanted to upgrade. That should cut out missed focus most of the time. Second for me is better low light performance due to the BSI. I will appreciate the new adjustment wheel in front of the shutter button. For me the "fully articulating" LCD screen is a downgrade. I only ever use the tilt feature and that has been impacted by the new design. I can understand vloggers who want to see the screen facing forward. I just don't do that. Fortunately this is overall a low use feature for me. I'll live with it. I have a Panasonic bridge FZ1000 with the fully articulating screen so I'm not new to the game. I sold my 6400. The 6600 now becomes the back-up camera.

Sony seems to try to get ppl to downlaod there imaging edge desktop by leaving basic features from there cameras just going to drive ppl away . Or use othere software.

  • The lens cost point breaks down when you factor in adapting all the now cheap used EF/EFS glass thats availble. Also with adapted glass you can use the adapters to get a range of effective focal lenghts with 1 lens. I use a basic canon EF to RF adapter, a speed booster and 1.4 EF teleconverter to get 4 effective focal lenghts from one lens. The plain canon adapted lens, speed boosted lens, adapted lens w the TC and the speed boosted lens with the TC.

About the budget, I have no limits, but I don't want to overpay for something I don't need. Since one of the needs is to use the camera when travelling, I don't want the camera to be too big and heavy. The XS-20 might not quite land in the same performance bracket for autofocus, but for everything else it wipes the floor with those two, doesn’t it?
