The real story behind Nepal’s wildlife conservation success | 101 East Documentary
In the 1960s, Nepal's one-horned rhino population had plummeted to less than 100, with poachers threatening it with extinction.
Yet Nepal's latest rhino census reveals something remarkable - the number of rhinos has grown to 752.
The rise is attributed to one of the world's toughest anti-poaching approaches, mixed with innovative community-based conservation efforts.
And this success is not limited to the rhino - with the Himalayan nation close to tripling its tiger population in 2022.
101 East investigates one of the greatest conservation success stories in Asia and asks if it is sustainable.

Honestly out of all the mainstream media, Al Jazeera is the best at reporting on wildlife crime and conservation
That's called carrot...
Greetings from Nepal bro ❤️
Congratulations Nepal. Most of the people are very humble and well-behaved. As you have made a good success in wildlife conservations , also do care your indigenous people . Because both of them are precious and create a symbiotic relationship.

Thanks Andrew, we wish you get out of jail as soon as possible

The journalist has made a really contradictory statement saying Nepal as the poorest country. It’s baseless and bias. Nepal is definitely not a developed nation but is absolutely self sufficient, there are no slums and homeless citizen like shown on various medias in other known countries.
True
Guess what that journalist is indian
So you are claiming there are NO slums and homeless citizen in Nepal?? 🧢

So happy to see our country's progress in wildlife conservation. We need to stop hunting reserve and promote national conservation parks. Huge salute to our Nepal Army and experts along with media team
I wish Al Jazeera employed Nepalese journalists to cover news in Nepal. Hearing my country folks interviewed in hindi isn't a good feeling.
The statement "one of Asia's poorest countries" made me feel very emotional, causing me to feel like crying inside. We know we are economically backward than many other countries. But I don't think being poor is the only our identity.😔😔
Fact is fact. We can't change and this title was brought up on us by our so called politicians and their policies 😭
It's not poor it's corrupt
Fact: Nepal is poor but the people here are very rich.
@@future_ofNepal no
It wouldn't be poor if there were more job opportunities and less corruption. There are really intelligent people, but corruption is giving them less opportunities
Nepal is full of nature’s and leading conservation countries within the world. They value their culture.
I'm from Chitwan. I respect the Nepalese army and locals for making conservation efforts successful. The cruelties of the Nepalese army may have been the case 20 years before but it is definitely not happening now (given we have a different political system now). Indegenous communities have been troubled because of wildlife but I love that Nepalese have realized we have a small price to pay for better future of endangered species.
That's why we are the global leader for wildlife conservation
it hurts but it is poor and far from technology third world country with 0 industries 😂
@@heyyou263 can thank our dear politicians so that you could write this comment who did more politics than business in our industries.
Not only for wildlife preservation we are great soldiers of the world too who are protecting the people of different nationalities as gurkhas❤️❤️salute to nepalese army🫡🫡

A world class example of millitarism shown by Nepal. Hats off!! Nepal Army.
one thing that makes me pride is our nepal army and wild life conservation of our country
The 🐘 was a gentleman enough to close the door
So proud of Nepal! Greetings and support from the USA.
The video started saying "one of Asia's poorest countries", we Nepalese strongly deny it. We are little bit poor (not poorest) in terms of money but we are the richest one in terms of mountains, culture, wildlife & many other things. We Nepalese people take our Guest as God.We are already ready to welcome our guests from foreign countries. We are richest from our heart🇳🇵❤️
But economically we are brother we are.
haha.. aceept or not.. We are poor..
Yeah I felt bad too when video start with "one of the poorest Asian country"
we are poor...
Yep we are poor... That's a fact you can't deny

Such a warm story. Thank you, Nepal (The Army) for your conservation work.
Our Nepal 🇳🇵 is poor country but definitely not the poorest country in Asia..correct your statement 💯💯And yes our country is poor economically but is so …so rich from other aspects 🇳🇵❤️
Nepal is not poor country it is culturally rich country & Prosperous with best Natural environment. ❤ from 🇮🇳

When I used to see wildlife related documentary in childhood on my Television.I used to think that why not my country Nepal🇳🇵is shown. Always excited to see documentary related to my country.
Thanks a lot for making this aljazeera lots of love from 🇳🇵
Those saying mentioning Nepal's economic condition is irrevelent should understand that this spreads caution to the entire world. If Nepal, with limited economic resources can make such progress with wildlife conservation, why can't the countries with rich economy do it? They simply don't care enough.
As an American I wholeheartedly agree!
Exactly

Nepal used to be poor but today the situation have changed now Nepal is one of fastest developing country in south Asia .. Nepal is in good condition on global hunger index then the country like India Pakistan Nepal was doing exceptionally good in economic growth rate before 2019 but Lockdown & Ukraine -Russia war have definitely created some problems in economy not only in Nepal but in the whole world.. otherwise the economic condition would have been more better!!

CONGRATULATIONS PRADEEP SIR
thanks but i might wanna remind you, Nepal is not at all the poorest country in Asia. Nepal is just economically primitive. No Nepali citizens ever had faced situations to beg or sleep in a footpath. Nepali people are blessed by the inherited wellbeing and influences. People in Nepal work hard, but the only thing is, Nepali people don't commercialize their workability. People work in the fields, they grow their own crop and they eat it and feed their families, they don't sell it in the market to earn money.

For the perspective of GDP per capita we may not be doing well but Nepal has so many positives which other country, including India, can learn from. Nepal as a country is itself a limitless potential. Period.
So true brother. Nepal has low GDP. But has very potential in every sector. We just need good government. Thank you for you comment made my night because we have Nepalese like you .
Why include India everywhere,India is much more developed than Nepal.Indian students are CEOs of big tech companies,India has enough billionaires to buy Nepal,so don't talk nonsense against my country at first look at your own country.
@@angshumandutta9654 Have you read my comments properly? Perhaps, you need to learn to read first and comment later. As far as your brainless comment of Indian billionaires are concerned, you seem to have minimal idea about scammers like Adani, Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi and all that jazz. The highest level of unemployment in India is leading the people like you to think irrationally. Only handful of people in India benefitting and you are talking about buying one sovereign nation. First, start building toilets and cleaning your polluted cities like Mumbai and Delhi.
@@angshumandutta9654 bhai Inka yahi hota hai... Sale sab kuch india pe depend hai bt india ke neibour countries ko india ko hi critisism krna ata hai
GDP is never a good measure for any country unless we are just trying to count things produced/consumed. Country is leading in so many ways. So much to learn from nepali people, such a beautiful country where people are learning to live with the world around them not just bulldozing it down and selling it for profit.
Its like heaven to see this thing in real
Proud Nepali 🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵
i love my nepal
My suggestion to any reputed media is to never send any indian journalist to Nepal. Just because they are our neighbors doesn't mean they are clear and to the point. Most of the time they are very biased and controversial. They like to project the things from their prospective. As a Nepali and a man from the chitwan area I can relate to most of the things on this documentary but there are a lot of things which I found very baised. We do love our land and our wild animals. And our government has done a lot things for both the people and the animals to benefit. If anybody wants to get a clear and unbiased view on this topic, I suggest to come to my country and spend the time with the locals and know about them. Peace to you all
Nice
