Nice lightsaber emojis!
Cool
Where can I get those lightsaber emojis!?
Based on the testing, I'm convinced this project was just an excuse for James to eat more fruit cut in new and exciting ways
James gonna be the next Fruit Ninja
Pineapple, coconut, watermelon... sounds like a pretty tasty fruit salad! Hold the concrete, though 🤣
A new interpretation of going on an extreme diet.
@@russwilliams4777come on, that’s the best part
@@russwilliams4777 Nyet komrad! Konkrit make stronk stomak.
I really dig the environment you created for your team. It seems like the type of situation where people will remember working with you for years to come.
You know... if they don't get chopped in half by an axe or laser at work that is
@@MrE_ If that happens I'm pretty sure those who survive will remember it even more
James: "I've been seeing a therapist." Also James: *aggressively uses a giant two-bladed switch axe*
thats my kinda therapy
I'm glad James is doing better, it's nice to see him gleefully enjoying new projects.
Despite breaking an expensive bit, I am glad he didn't look scared that he was going to be punished somehow. That is a good workplace vibe right there.
My thoughts exactly 😊
@@Isnogood12 they made the battle axe for a reason
Ya, a real good on screen work environment
bro he looked scared shitless
its something that can happen to anyone and im sure they know it too. sure you can minimize the risk by being extra careful, but things like this just tend to happen. we're still human after all. the only important thing is that it doesnt happen regularly and that it was an honest mistake that they learned from, the fright of having broken an expensive bit is punishment enough in these cases
The second iteration against the concrete kinda blew me away, even being hardened I would've thought some damage would've been sustained considering the first one just disintegrated, but it went though like nothing, kinda scary lol
I've seen many people leaving comments and having a channel's icon behind their name. How do you do that???
@@Casual_Giraffe74 hacksmith liked the comment
It means they are A member
Concrete is surprisingly brittle when not reinforced. Participated in a martial arts retreat where (among other things) learned how to break pavers with our hands (wearing gloves). It's not trivial, but it is not outrageous like brunt clay bricks are. We broke several cinder blocks being used as tables when trying brick breaking. The axe shape is actually fairly decent for the purpose (other than ruining the blade), as it concentrates the impulse in a small area. It's mostly a matter of the supports not bending before the concrete yields.
I’m honestly shocked that the axe held up so well. I was expecting it to do what most other retractable things do and just bend like crazy because it has no structural integrity, but oh boy. You need to do a colab with shadiversity, he could probably find a test to break it.
Shad would probably state based on the weight, that it's useless for a human as a weapon. It's way to heavy. But cool gadget it is!
@@OldSkullSoldier and the handle too looks uncomfortable for usage
Why? So he can make a 10 minute unfunny sketch at the beginning of the video while he spends another 20 minutes to find 100 different ways to say the same thing to the audience?
The amount of serious james was for the sponsor hit me hard, i have depression myself and it just shows how much james cares about us
OH MY GOD THEY HEARTED MY COMMENT, IM SO HAPPY!
Good job
Definitely - whether through better help or someone else I can't recommend counselling enough. I know it can be hard but look after yourself, you're worth it.
Better help is a scam.
Yeah true but that transition after the YEET was super jarring ihad to laugh which I didn't want! Aha.. I liked the serious note, just too out of nowhere!

I am loving this new format. Everyone looks to be genuinely enjoying themselves and the love is palpable. Keep it up, guys.
4:10 probably not an easy thing to film James but I’m so glad you’re doing well. Seeing a video from you about not making videos anymore was the single scariest shit I’ve ever seen on KZhead. Your channel has been such a large inspiration in my life that I can’t really put it into words, I love seeing you back here! Thank you for countless hours of entertainment. -John
i liked the end of that video. Showing how close you all are, and that you're a family and not just people working together
Or..are they?
I mean….KZhead videos are their job so
Corporation says "We're a family here." 😬😱 Hacksmith says "We're a family here." 😊🫡
The whole video I was like, what "lunatic thinks a police officer needs a tactical hatchet?" And then the end is like a Marvel movie reveal where SexyCyborg shows up like "It was me. I'm the lunatic!" Excellent. I need to go see if she made a video about that.
This video has the feel of the best HS videos! Lots of laughing, destruction, fun and unique engineering. Your Killing it guys. so glad your doing better James! Going through this journey publicly probably help a lot of people… Proud of you
It's great to see James laughing and smiling. Keep getting better buddy. And lots of love to the rest of the crew for all the hard work.
Looks like it’s something straight out of Monster Hunter, this is definitely one of my favorite projects you guys have done. If I could buy one of the giant ones I definitely would

I’d watch Hacksmith do Monster Hunter weapons. I want to see a charge blade irl!
the name is straight up already a mh weopon called exactly a switch axe, it starts as an axe and can mrph into a sword

Very cool! I know the handle has to contain everything, but it seems a little too large to be practical. I think I might look into that hand axe though.
to be fair, if you were to be mugged and you pull out an elongated betal brick and it suddenly turn into a battle axe... i don't think the mugger is going to know what to do lmao

I'm so glad you are getting better. Thank you for speaking to someone who can help you. I also struggle with mental health and your videos help me.
Project aside, I really apreciate you talking about mental health and being open about what you experienced. I think that this can be a starting point for people in your situation, that dont know where to start. Thanks James. For everyone reading this and struggeling with similar things, just know that you are not alone and there is help out there for you, find the right moment for you to get that help and become the best you can be. Love to everyone
His video helped me too😊
What an awesome idea! Y’all always expand imaginations beyond what I thought was possible.
I see what you did there …
Love the team and family dynamic that you guys always have in these videos! Very inspiring!
James i hope your mental health gets better and I'm wishing you luck, awesome build!
I've been following you guys for a while, and I am always impressed with how you do things as much as the things you do. But as someone who battles with depression, I was reinvigorated when you came back after some much needed time off. Being a male in todays world is really hard, talking about depression is even harder. Seeing you back like this, well it's going to help so many people, so I just wanted to say thanks. And continued good health dude!
The first GENUINE advert for Better Help that ive personally seen (he didnt even enter "youtuber into mode"
My first thought, having played MonHun since Tri: Is it a Switch Axe, though? It has no Sword Mode and holds no vials...
I get what you mean I thought it was monster hunter weapon they were making but the 'switch' I this case is sadly like a switch blade not switch into another weapon, I do want them to make it though
Thats awsome, I love these types of vids, reminds me of the one day builds for way back when. Keep up the good work and keep doing what Y'all love!
It’s awesome to see you’re doing better James. Looked like you had a lot of fun with this one! Keep up the great up work :)
Naomi Wu's version looks like it is easier to close. Love to see this collaboration between two great makers!
Sick, looks like its right out of a video game
Yes, monster hunter.. It's pretty cool
Or decaying winter, if you brave the horror that is roblox
Next step is Switchaxe or Charge Blade
Coincidental, Naomi Wu also looks like she's straight out of a video game.
Bloodborne vibes
I love the premise of this entire project. Fantastic video.
That battle axe is just about the coolest bit of real world battle tech i've seen in a long while. Especially the first reveal in the intro.
Thanks for existing. honestly your imagination.. and silliness has saved mine and probably other peoples lives. Therapy hurts me more mentally.. but finding inspiration in builds like this helps me tremendously. Thank you.
I laughed way harder than I would like to admit at this comment lol 😂
I get a lot of motivation from engineering channels too, they have helped me a lot through the years to boost my motivation and keep alive my sense of wonder and curiosity. But I have to say that therapy has been extremely important too. The pandemic, isolation and loss of a few loved ones left me burnt out and depressed. If you have a good therapist, therapy is worth it. But you have to time it: when you get to the bottom of things, it stirs up a lot of feelings and it can be hard to go through that. Many people give up therapy at that point. But if you have a good connection with your therapist, you can work with them to build up strength and improve your habits and then you will find the moment to tackle those issues with their guide. It will still be a struggle, but you will get to the other side better than before, and finally free from things that have dragged do down for years. In 16 months, I have been able to retake control of my life and accomplish more than I did in the previous two years. I still have a long way to go, and there are still ups and downs, but I'm in a much, much better place than I was before I started therapy, and it enabled me to go through some terrible things that happened last year without suffering a bad relapse. Don't give up! The key is finding a good fit, someone with experience, but also with modern training, someone you can build rapport with. In my case, a young neuropsychologist was the one who made a difference.
This has got to be one of the most fun hacksmith videos, even with a relatively simple project!
I am glad you are talking to someone!! It makes a big difference!!
Love these projects, especially the make it real. Lightsaber is still my favorite project but this is a close second! Keep up the great work!! :D
Glad to see you doing well, and the axe like all Hacksmith projects is top notch.
That looked so fun, glad James is back and I'm proud of the community he has surrounding him.
The fire-starting bit was great, even better than most of your usual testing montages. It looked super fun, too!
Nothing better than seeing a bunch of people doing work they love and enjoy referencing 'Office Space'. The message of that movie was clearly received.
It's good to see you back in videos!! Glad you're doing much better.
I feel like cross braces and force transfer could evolve this design a ton. Like, snapping in additional braces when it expands, that transfer force from hits along the whole thing instead of 2 pieces per blade. Maybe some experimental designs could be fun too, like an axe that unfolds into a 270° circle from the top, springs vs hydraulics vs muscle expansion, that kinda stuff.
So basically have a really cool set of collapsible switchaxes that unfold in different ways, and end up looking like different types of axes and also some new types of axes. This is something that I feel would be really cool and I want to try making this like that, but also I need to get better at cad to design things like that.
great video, you guys allways bring so much soul to your videos :) i know how hard the reverse enginerring stage is (i did a child toy grabber arm) and seeing that step being skipped by so fast makes me realize how long this stuff takes. like i said, great job, keep it up
Absolutely amazing ! I love the sound it makes when opened. It is truly an epic weapon.
Really glad seeing you doing better James and to see you back in the videos

Every day, we're getting closer and closer to becoming real life Bloodborne and RWBY. Trick Weapons and Mecha-Shift are a go!
it'd honestly be so cool if it had a little fire dispencer thingy on the top so its easy to light a fire with it making it the best survival axe
Like a piece of flint or an actual match/ lighter
I think that would make for more to go wrong if at the bladed end, but at the bottom of the hilt/handle might work...
