I’m glad you talked about Hank’s willingness to sacrifice Jesse in order to catch Walter. It always felt like that line of dialogue was there just to show that Hank wasn’t a hero. Hank was just as obsessed with catching Walter as Walter was with getting away with it all. In the end, their obsessions ruined their lives.

If you re-watch the show, you'll realise how many times he tries to break the rules of police integrity for his own benefit. Practically everything he does in the junkyard scene investigating the motor vehicle with jesse and walt in it is done in malice and was illegal for him to do.

I can’t believe that anyone would assume that the guy who happily takes selfies with dead bodies is a hero. Hank’s a great character, and he’s a better person than most of the main cast. But that’s not saying much. He harasses people like Wendy and treats even minor drugs dealers worse than animals. He was willing to kill Jesse and constantly uses or endangers people for his own pride. He’s got a lot of good qualities, but he’s very much morally gray. He just seems better than someone like Walt who’s evil.

That’s what makes breaking bad so unique and different from alot of shows. By having alot of realistic characters that are never white but in between black and grey revealing their personalities throughout the series and how it eventually let to their downfalls. Love the breakdown!
It was so hard to cheer for Walt but so hard not to cheer for him at the same time for me. That's Breaking Bad in a nutshell.

Hank isn't a quote on quote "hero", but the journey he went though though out the show made him a much better man by the time of his death than where he started at. And it's not something you can say about most of the characters in the show. His journey was more like walking a path "toward" heroism, sure he never got to achieve that, but again, you can't say that about most of the characters.
For sure, he definitely improves as it goes on. At least prior to Gliding Over All.

Hank Schrader refused to tell the DEA about Walt because every time with Gus and others it was always suspicion never proof he wanted Skyler to come her senses which was never possible as long as it was suspicion the moment he found out Walt was Heisenberg he had put Hank through all these dangerous traumatic yet humbling situations and Hank was beyond betrayed when he realized that the reason his death is so romanticized is he knew Jack was going to kill him regardless if he begged something Walt refused to see until Hank forced that harsh reality on Walt “you’re the smartest guy I ever met and you’re too stupid to see he made up his mind ten minutes ago “. Hank wanted closure on Heisenberg but Walt refused to give it to him so he swallowed his pride and accepted his death which led to Walt’s entire family hating him along with the entire world when they knew Walt was Heisenberg so in that way that’s the reason why Hank’s a romanticized hero years later compared to who he was in the pilot Hank and Jesse and even I’d say Marie by the end are more likable than where they began.
Hank falls into the same trap as Walt and Jesse, where they fly too close to the sun. One more cook, one more hit, one more plan to crack down on Walt and it could all be over, but just as Walt and Jesse lose everything with their last chance, so does Hank. Also, he's not a hero, he's a mineral collector.
I find Hank is, in many ways, a cautionary tale about taking the law into one's own hands i.e. vigilantism and overestimating your own skills and resiliency, much like modern superheroes, but instead of the consequences being a temporary obstacle to overcome and the reward being a tough, but rich and fulfilling life, it's the reverse; any amount of 'wins' he gets don't outweigh the physical and psychological damage he endured, and the final "reward" he gets is death.
Not just vigilantism, but also prideful vigilantism. Most superheroes are vigilantes motivated by a strong sense of wanting to do good.

Skylar was right he was hardly concerned with what was going to happen to her and junior. He was fine using Jesse to get Walt even if he died in the process. When he caught Walt he acted like the cocky ass he did in season 1 again

I like that you don't villainize Hank, you just point out the truth: he is a person, capable of both good and bad.
Hank is simultaneously an example of the worst that people assume when they think of cops, and he can also be a really good man at times. In the end his pride lead to his downfall just like Walt, and with all that said there's no way he's a hero.

@@debordeleur2005 arresting people for doing/selling drugs isn't a good thing. people should have the right to experiment with substances if they wish, and the entire war on drugs was started as a way to disrupt minority communities.
My interpretation of Hank was that he THOUGHT he was the hero of the story, but in reality he was always meant to be a deconstruction of the "morally righteous tough guy" trope rather than one played straight. He's just as layered and nuanced as any other character in this show where no one is truly pure.
Holy shit I never realized that he doesn't once use reasoning involving evidence when explaining why he doesn't go to the police in Buried. He just talks about his job, and him needing to be the man.
He doesn't have any real evidence, only circumstantial at best. If he decided to divulge what he knew, then he would probably lose his job because not only has he spent too many resources on the case, he'd also look like a fool accusing his own brother in law. Plus Walt would never see the inside of a jail cell without hard evidence. Thus, he makes Walt lead him to the money as well as the confession tape. All of this is explained. Did you watch a different show?

I said nothing about whether or not he has evidence or whether or not the DEA would believe him (although they definitely would, hence why they put the scene I'm referring to in there in the first place) but the point was that when Marie suggested this, Hank does not use any of the reasoning you (incorrectly) used here. Instead, like I already said and you didn't read, his reasoning revolves around his ego. He COULD have maybe said that it wasn't enough evidence if that was true. But he doesn't. He talks instead about losing his job and how he needs to be the one to catch Walt, which is my point. He leans on pride, not evidence, which is the whole point of my comment.

Hank isn’t a good person, but the contrast between his and Marie’s relationship compared to Walt’s and Skyler’s always stuck out to me. The fact that Hank was so open and vulnerable with Marie who supported him regardless of what he did really made a sweet relationship. I know Skyler and Marie are different people but it makes me wonder how Skyler would’ve supported Walt if he was honest from the very beginning

@@feba33 Hank wasn't a good guy either. He was very arrogant, took pictures of himself with a dead body and joked about it, and was willing to exploit Jesse for his own wants. He also doesn't hesitate to just straight up barge in and beat him up without any given reason. He is a very unprofessional man who abuses his power, which true it isn't on Walt's level, he isn't exactly our hero either.
He was really prideful after his injury, not letting Marie help him. I never liked Hank. He just looked good when standing next to Heisenberg

I mean we all know Hank isn't perfect but we love what he does, we love his jokes and we love that he tries to fight crime as he loves doing so and he's good at it just like Walter is good at being a methlord 2 parallels and it's great to see even though Hank isn't perfect he tries his best and still sticks to his morals unlike his co-workers laughing at the head on the tortoise scene

To me it just shows how incredibly insecure he is with ego at the forefront, and unfortunately it's a realistic portrayal of many men who feel like they can't show any "weakness". Such a well written character, flaws and all
this is why I never really sympathized with Hank's PTSD over Tortuga. just a few episodes prior he was laughing at Gonzo being dismembered at a parking garage! the fact he got traumatized by a DEA member getting dismembered just felt like plain karma.
It's probably because it wasn't because the dea member was someone close but instead it was the fact it showed that he himself as a dea member is vulnerable.
Hank like the rest of the DEA tends to dehumanize criminals like they are some sort of monsters. Like how they gifted him Tucos grill and he had it on his desk like a trophy. But him throwing it into the water showed a slight bit of growth as he seemed disillusioned with his beliefs about what was “cool” and all that. By the end he probably wasn’t the guy to be posing with dead bodies like they were animals. I sympathized with his PTSD bc I think it took some direct personal experience to make things “real” for him. It sucks to see anybody experience anything horrible like PTSD, even if they aren’t a hero. Though he was still very flawed at the end, he grew morally at least a little bit. Definitely still not a hero by any means. He was ready to sacrifice Jesse for the sake of his own ego
It wasn’t Tortuga it was the lingering effects of killing Tuco. He came close to death and took another mans life, this sticks with him. He then gets a promotion for killing Tuco which gives him significant change in his life. Then he nearly dies again days later with the Tortuga incident. He could find humour in things that had already happened however he then goes through multiple life or death situations and the effects get to him. He then grows as a person.
@@ShaunTripp Agreed. Tuco was the DEA's big fish in the region, and everyone was aware of him. Then Hank just strolls along, thinking he's homing in on 'Pinkman', and suddenly finds himself in a gunfight with Mr. Psycho himself, Tuco. Afterward, he has to play the happy tough guy receiving all the office recognition for taking Tuco out, but inside he was still shaking in his boots and nagged by guilt.
It really did not fit his character
Also just remembered that Hank is the REASON Marie relapsed and started shoplifting again, because he was psychologically abusing her.

Hank may not fit the definition of a hero but he’s a respectable character. I love that scene where he figures out Walt is Heisenberg. His actor is great, the look he gives walt is priceless. It’s one of the most climactic scenes in the whole show. The buildup for it is so good and the payoff is incredible. In that scene hank goes from being kind of a normal good guy cop character to being a total badass. The only scene rivaling it for me is the finale and even then it’s hard for me to choose. He might just be my favorite character in the whole show. I thought he had good development. I find him to be a very charming character specifically because he’s a regular guy, trying to do the right thing. He doesn’t need to be morally perfect, just because nobody can be. And his unrealistic expectations for himself breaks him, and I think that makes him as admirable as a person can be in such a dark show. If he was a hero it’d cheapen the show and his character. Sometimes an Everyman can be the best hero.

@Hunterkage Joestar He absolutely would do that. He got a little careless after months of comfort and being away from the business. A human being making a mistake, not matter how smart they are, after they've abandoned the thing that they have to be careful for, is not a problem. Not at all.
Heroism isn't a quality of a person that exists separate from the action. Is just doing a heroic act. There are no heroes, just people behaving heroically by doing the right thing when everyone else wouldn't. He also took out one of the hitman Mexican twins....and the way he faced death at gunpoint was bad ass.

Not at all. Heroism is definitely a quality about a person when speaking in the fictional realm especially.
So in otherwords, Hank Schrader was written as a typical law enforcement officer. Got it.
Chuck is the same kind of person as Hank. Both people who are at the top of the legal establishment they worked for, getting generally praised by people in their field of work as the “heroes”. But with these environment, it bred them into ego-driven narcissists who considered anyone who lost their ways or not as legal as them as “degenerate subhuman”. They don’t believe in a concept of redemption. They only think that if someone lost their way, that person will never improve themselves (yet they always beg for other people to believe in them that they can improve, pure hypocrites). Chuck’s treatment of Jimmy throughout the show is the same way Hank treated Jesse. - Chuck saw Jimmy as an irredeemable degenerate lowlife scumbag who got things his way easily without having to “work hard” like him. For example, passing a bar exam by learning from American Samoa online class is something unforgivable for him. However, he chose to ignore that Jimmy pursued this way in the first place because he never got any support from Chuck. No scholarship for UNM like those of Howard and Kim, so he had to grind his way to success. Chuck only cared about what he can “gain” from Jimmy and what Jimmy “took” away from him. That’s why he hated Jimmy so much in season 3 without ever looking himself in the mirror that he took advantage of Jimmy’s love for him by tricking Jimmy into talking about the numbers in order to ruin Jimmy later on. Chuck never saw his own action as morally wrong because as long as it’s “legal” then it’s right. - Hank treated people he considered “scumbags” terribly. Just look at how he brought Walter Jr. to the motel to humiliate Wendy, without considering that Wendy didn’t have that much choice and she had to do it for her family. This is a thing that Jesse understands deeply while Hank will never does. He enjoyed intimidating Badger and Jesse because he felt that he’s morally superior than them. And once things went down like in season 3 when he received a fake phone call from Jimmy about Marie’s car crash (a neat reference to Kim’s car crash), he chose to blame Jesse immediately without any evidence and he punched Jesse so hard that Jesse knocked out because in his eyes, someone who can do something terrible like this must be a “lowlife” like Jesse. Hank always looked down on Jesse. Even when he wanted Jesse to help him arrest Walter, what he did was that he manipulated Jesse when Jesse was at his most vulnerable to make Jesse cooperate while revealing his true motive to Gomey behind Jesse’s back that he wanted Walter to kill Jesse on tape so that he can get an evidence to bust Walter. He took advantage of Jesse’s emotion big time to get what he wants and after he finally arrested Walter, he tossed Jesse aside right away. He’s okay at doing any morally reprehensible thing as long as it’s “legal”. The same tactic as Chuck. What’s funny is that, the narcissists like Chuck and Hank love to underestimate another different breed of narcissists like Kim and Walter. That’s why Chuck saw Kim as an innocent “fine woman” who got ruined by Jimmy while in fact she was as guilty as Jimmy in exposing him about mental illness. Hank saw Walter as a wimp and a “pinnacle of good” who got ruined by Jesse. That’s why it took so long for him to find out Walter is Heisenberg albeit the clues were right there ever since season 1. With these information, that’s why for me, the saddest death in Breaking Bad belongs to those of Andrea, not Hank. Because Hank might had a character development as a detective but he never had any development about how he treats people who lost their way. He still looked down on Jesse as an irredeemable scumbag from the beginning to the end. Meanwhile, Andrea was a girl who lost her way and tried so hard to make things right. She was sweet, a good mother and an innocent moral compass who is a final positive light in Jesse’s life. That’s why an innocent girl like her getting sent to Belize by Todd is extremely heartbreaking.
This was so beautifully put. Andrea’s death was so heartbreaking in part because of Jesse’s reaction. Although Jesse himself committed heinous acts, we understood that he was fundamentally a good person who protected those he loved. That’s why I think we felt so much reproach towards people like Todd and Walt.

I've never seen someone draw a parallel between Hank and Chuck this was, and it's amazing. However, I think Hank and Chuck differ in one big way: Chuck perceived Jimmy as a low-life not because Jimmy was a criminal, but because he was envious of Jimmy being the more likeable brother, so it's a self-defense mechanism for him enforce this idea of superiority over Jimmy. Meanwhile Hank just plainly felt no empathy towards criminals period.

Albeit, this is not something nearly as major, but at the same time, he has a willing blindness when it comes to people that he has to oppose in his line of work, in comparison to people he is close to. Also. it's ironic how his whole story was a redemption arc, starting out as a loud-mouth macho man, and eventually becoming a successful police officer, with a pretty good family life. The problem is, the redemption arc failed. Instead of staying on a good path, he went back to his habits of putting people down and letting his ego drive him, eventually leading to his death. It's like the terrible events in his life were there to tell him "Let go of your ego and be a better man. You're not as tough as you thought." And he almost listened.

I can never seem to stop comparing some elements of Breaking Bad to Death Note (YES I KNOW THEY ARE NOT THE SAME)... To me Hank's obsession to catch Heisenberg / Walter reminded me so much of L's obsession to catch Kira / Light, both heading towards such an egotistic point which led to both of their deaths.

Hank is the Howard of BB. Just the Tragedy, how they both were good, close friends with the main characters, how they got mistreated and fooled for doing their thing, their depression and self-doubt, and the sad ending they endured.
I very much relate to Jesse in the scene where Hank physically attacks him for personal reasons, as someone who was attacked by police simply because I am a single person who was driving through a rural area alone at night and they decided to attack me because they never see action and I was dressed a little raunchy. I can also see racism and classism in his policing, it takes seeing Gale's notebook for him to see the possability of Heisenberg being white, and seeing Gus's fingerprints in Gale's appartment to suspect "Heisenberg" might not be just one person but rather a corporation run by men in suits with decorum when the idea of a corporate entity should've been obvious after "the blue stuff" (not specified whether it's Walt's or Gale's meth they're finding, some Gale flashbacks later indicate it could be some of his meth they found, cool little tidbit) showed up again after James Kilkelly's arrest. I never saw Hank as a hero but then again for me to see a cop as a hero they've got to be aggressively holding their colleagues accountable for things like excessive force, Hank is the cop that would need to be held accountable for going too far by colleagues. There definately is a good person in there for holding himself accountable for how he handled his emotions with Jesse when his colleagues didn't want him held accountable. But a hero wouldn't do something like attack a person over emotions like "how'd you get my wife's name". Breaking Bad is meant to be a critique of cop shows, by putting protagonists on both sides so you see the monsterous nature of police. Hank is an awesome character from a writing standpoint when you watch the show in that lense, but he's the furthest thing from a hero.

I disagree. I get your experience and I’m very sorry about what happened, but I think it has an influence on your decision on Hank. He probably wasn’t a “hero” and had many flaws, but I still see him as a generally good character. Him beating Jesse is the illegal thing to do, of course. That doesn’t make it pointless. Jesse knowing his wife’s name isn’t nothing. Imagine, Hank is coming after these drug dealers and they call him lying that his wife is in the hospital and calling her by her name. Now, why would the drug dealers need to know his wife’s name in the first place? Shows that they have been looking into him. It’s kind of perceived as a threat by him and probably should be seen that way.

Romanticizing "heroism " is too out of touch with reality. Flawed people can at times and lot of the time do heroic things. I haven't in my entire life seem anything as heroic as normal people enduring and overcoming all different kinds of personal tragedies and day to day sufferings, with the type of attitude no fictional character can even come close to. I met an elderly lady, who lost her only income source, very poor, who endure staged 4 cancer, while working, going to chemo alone on a bus, for anyone who has ever gotten chemo they know even the slightest movement feels like hell sometimes , and you are extremely weak and sensitive after it, not to mention the million related sufferings it brings on its own. This woman endure that and still does. Having beaten the odds she survived. Alone and in silence. Some very "plain", normal people are unsung heroes. It's just their story never gets out.

I'm not sure how old you are, but I want you to imagine how you would feel if somebody told you today you have cancer and on top of that stage 4?.. Just imagine it. One day you maybe will have to face this and I hope that you're unlike her are not old and poor. Because even with all the money and support on earth is some tough shit to go through. Its probably one of the hardest blows anyone can be dealt. And hard to deal with graciously and with courage. she went to chemo by herself on a bus and alone . All while working, while she had stage 4 cancer with 0% of living. A lot of people would have just given up and not even go to treatment . Ask a person you know who has gone through chemo and how extremely sick it makes you feel, every little movement feels unbearable, erything even the feeling of the clothes on our body feel painful . So to go back and forth from chemo alone and on a bus on top its no easy task. Not to mention the emotional state one could have being, old, alone and poor and having to go to treatment. And having lost your only source of income etc.. . All the whole maintaining a calm demeanor. Not complaining and not being bitter towards ppl around you. To be bitter about that news I would understand from almost anyone and in those circumstances, but she chose to keep moving on positively and she did. A lot of people wouldn't have the mental fortitude to endure that. She didn't save someone else but there is soemthin heroic about fsing adversity without letting it ruin your outlook on life and on how you treat others. This woman was very kind and sweet as far as I ever dealt with her.

She wears a royal purple for most of the show, but it's only after Hank's death that she loses that financial security and privilege, and is reduced to a plain white.

I've long felt that it was Hank's own hubris that did him in and contributed to the destruction of his extended family: he could have simply looked the other way and turned a blind eye to Walt's involvement; he could have recused himself from the investigation; he could have agreed to let Walt and Uncle Jack walk away in the desert. Instead, he refused to even beg for his life and died because of that.
Even if he wanted to walk away and look the other way it wasn't really an option at that point. After all, he was carrying out an investigation without authorization and after he'd been told to back off from it, and it ended with steve gomez getting killed. There is no walking away from explaining how that happened and that inevitably leads to him having to out walt and jack

Being willing to do what you believe to be the right thing, even if it costs you. But there's nothing good or helpful about refusing to beg for your life. It's just something to satisfy your ego. If anything, if you have anyone who cares about you, anyone who would be hurt by your death, I'd consider it more dignified and admirable to beg than not to. Because you're setting aside your pride in order to have a chance, even if a small one, to live so that your loved ones don't have to grieve you. But that's just my opinion, I respect yours.

I SO AGREE with you on this analysis! I always thought that Hank fell into the same trap that Walt had which was his pride and ego. And you pointed out the same with Gus. That I think is the main theme of Breaking Bad. It is a cautionary tale of how Pride and Ego can ruin us all if we don't keep it in check.
It's not that Hank was ever seen as a paragon of morality, it's that he starts off the show as a loud-mouthed, abrasive, jackass and over the course of the show is put through the hero's journey and made to humble himself, which he ultimately shows in his last words.

Some people don't agree when some say that he gets better across the series. This is my rationale for anyone interested. His PTSD before beating up Jesse put him in a more sympathetic light because he was put in a difficult situation and had stopped making demeaning wisecracks and stuff. But then 3x07 happened and then yeah. But after he verbally abused Marie for being a caring wife (lol) he improved very steadily until he discovered who Heisenberg was. Very focused, the most mature he ever was. I think that's what people refer to when saying he get better.
They can't be referring to anything else really. That's the only way there can be an argument.

Hank's behavior from the start was questionable to me - at Walt's 50th birthday party, macho Hank just has to steal the limelight by showing the DVD of his drug bust and that pile of money which captures Walt's imagination and leads him into temptation - I can't believe the DEA would allow a civilian/relative to accompany agents on police work. Further, Hank makes his usual disparaging remarks about Walt in front of party guests by inviting him to ride along on a drug bust to liven up his dull high school teacher life. Always with the putdowns! Hank's smart mouth was not amusing nor helpful - his putdowns of colleagues and blowhard treatment of Walt Jr. grated on me throughout the series. I did enjoy his acting abilities and his shootout with the two brothers - but the character Hank, let's face it, was a major factor in creating the monster that was Heisenburg.
Episode one Hank is so.. ugh. And that's just him being generally obnoxious, before he does his worst.
It becomes personal because it IS personal. Walt is a monster and is destroying Hank's family, can't get more personal than that.

Dean Norris is one hell of an actor - he makes me forget he's not real. The one scene I was impressed the most by was the one in which he knew Tortuga's head on a tortoise was a bomb, when all the other agents were oblivious and laughing at him. But I hated the character's treatment of his wife. That, to me, was really sad. Nice video!!

I can't recall even one occasion of Hank truly asking himself _why_ people do meth. It seems like he bought into the very simplistic mindset of "meth bad, NO EXCUSES!" like so many real-life LEOs. In other words he swore an oath to protect all but he "othered" those who didn't or couldn't share his worldview and privilege. I worked in a drug-ridden neighborhoid for over a decade. I never once met a person whose ambition was to grow up to be a heroin or crack or meth addict. Most ended up there because of being dealt crappy hands in the game of life. Hank would have smiled and posed for selfies with them as he added to their ruin.
He and Walt have a conversation about the legality of drugs and Walt argues that whether something is legal or not seems arbitrary. Hank counters that plenty of people he’s arrested say the same thing but ultimately that he views drugs are harmful. Ultimately it’s not his responsibility or place to care about the why. He’s the one who’s meant to stop the drugs being made, sold and used. He does seem to view criminals with contempt it would seem to me that view is justified by him as he has seen the horrors that the Mexican Cartels have done (Tortuga for example). To him drug users are victims but they also help monsters stay in power and so he’ll arrest and lock up anyone involved in the trade. If they can offer him info/help then perhaps they get some leniency.

One scene that made me feel Hank was the good guy was when Walt JR is given alcohol. Hank is chill with one shot. But when Walt serves a second shot - Hank tries to stop it and tells JR he shouldn't drink it.
I think an important point to add to the thesis of the video is that Walter played a big part in Hank's descent into obsessive madness. The way Walter played him and the fact that he was crippled by Heissenberg (even if he didn't know it was Walter at the time) made it almost impossible for Hank not to become obsessed with catching Heissenberg. I also think it would have been extremely difficult for anyone not to make catching Heissenberg personal given it was Walter, his *brother in law* all along. There's nothing more personal than that, lol. So while I do think part of his demise was due to his own flaws, another substantial part wasn't
I actually disagree, I think that stating that the personal nature of Heisenberg made it nearly impossible for him to not become obsessed and prideful takes away too much agency from the character and dilutes the writing. Of course it was a huge blow to him, that goes without saying, but I don’t agree to this extent.
It's funny because when I started watching Breaking Bad, I remember thinking to myself about Hank 'Wow, what a smug arsehole! And he's one of the fan favourites?It's not like my opinion will change by the end'. And it did! He was still a smug arsehole, but by allowing us to see his vulnerabilities, we were able to root for him (most of the time. His relationship with Marie in season 4 was pretty crap). I def agree though that Hank isn't a 'hero' in Breaking Bad. People seem to put him on that pedestal due to his attitude and how his opponents are always worse than him. By the time Ozymandias, I still didn't think Hank was a hero. He was funny and sympathetic, but at the end of the day he was still a character who'd done some pretty messed up stuff on the show, just to a lesser degree than the other characters.
I would argue that he isn’t a hero but is a good person, his ability to recognize that beating Pinkman wasn’t who he was supposed to be, followed by a grieving of the person he thought he was. He’s always trying to be good, wether people see it or not and thats my definition of a good person
Being obsessed with solving a crime to the point of hurting yourself and others is a pretty common trope for modern heroes - the flawed good guy. As long as actions are rooted in the idea of catching the bad guy - it matters a bit less if it ends up being a thing of pride.
A hero is more like Jack Shepherd of Lost. I see Hank and Walt more as normal people changed by different situations. But, Hank taking down the cousins was badass. And when Hank showed to the DEA that Fring's fingerprints was in Gale's house, I clapped for him literally. The greatness of Breaking Bad has to do with characters like Jesse, Hank, and Walt being at each other like in the final season, but understand with empathy each person's motivations as they misunderstand each other. Especially Walt and Jesse being on different pages in the final episodes of season five.

No mention of the person who was the biggest help to Hank in catching Walt-- Walt himself. Time after time Walt, through hints, incompetence (cranking up the magnets at the evidence room) and an outright confession ("You got me") gives Hank the pieces to put it all together, yet he somehow doesn't. He knows that Jesse is involved in some manner, but the fact that he was a student in Walt's CHEMISTRY class doesn't serve as a connective cord. He just didn't want it to be Walt.

"not a hero just a bloodhound that uses dirty cop tactics" A hero doesn't have to be perfectly moral, if you're the one that's been hunting the villain, for unselfish reasons and for the betterment of the world(since the first season) you are the hero, but of course people like to play philosophers but I understand, everything can be ambiguous in this show, with clever words you can say that Gomez is the hero of the show or say that Hank isn't(he is), literally any opinion can be had in this show, that's why it's so good
I never stated that a hero needs to be perfect and I quite literally said this in the video. And Hank is not unselfish for reasons explained. “Play philosophers” I sincerely hope you’re not talking about me lol. Everything I said is a valid interpretation stated with reference to the story.
