Old Lion Steals from Young Lion that Stole from Vultures that Stole from Eagle
This unsuspecting bateleur eagle thought it was so lucky to have an impala all to itself when he was suddenly disturbed by a group of vultures and 2 male lions!

27-year-old Nadav Ossendryver, founder of LatestSightings.com, was fortunate enough to have the best seat in the house for this epic sighting. He shared his footage and story with LatestSightings.com.
His mid-morning drive took him to the Bravo Loop just east of Skukuza, where he was fortunate enough to spot a pack of wild dogs lazing in the shade on the hot summer morning. Not much action here, he thought, but little did he know that the real thrill was waiting for him just around the corner.
As he made his way back towards Echo Loop, he was met with a sad sight. There, lying by the side of the road, was a lifeless impala, and atop it was a juvenile bateleur eagle. Bateleurs are the lowest-flying eagles, due to their feather structure making them very heavy. So, they are often the first to arrive at a fresh kill after being the ones to spot them first. Vultures then wait on the lookout for bateleurs and other eagles descending onto a kill to locate where there might be food.
"This place has lots of lions around. Lions tend to check out when vultures descend in the masses, meaning they've found something to eat. So, if a bunch of vultures land here, nearby lions might come over to see what's going on." And so he patiently waited, his camera poised and ready.
As if on cue, a group of vultures appeared, circling overhead, and descending towards the impala. The excitement in the air was indescribable. Then, suddenly, all the vultures paused and looked to one side. Was this going to be exactly what he predicted would happen?
Nadav's heart raced. He silently wished, "Please don't be a hyena." And his wish came true, just as he thought it would. A young male lion emerged, initially running past the impala, only to double back and carry the entire carcass in its jaws. Moments later, another, larger male lion joined the scene, chasing the first lion of his stolen prize and claimed it for himself.
Understanding how animals behave in the wild can be very beneficial. As was the case with Nadav, having a little knowledge about how things work changed his sighting from an eagle eating to two male lions. So, it pays to learn a little before going on safari.

Question is….. who did the eagle steal it from
Probably a cheetah.
I'm not surprised if the Impala was killed, and placed there on purpose to make a video.
@@fernandogallardo3458 In an earlier reply they said they think the impala died while giving birth. At he beginning of the clip you can see something coming out of the back of the impala. So if it was giving birth and there was a complication it would have died.
The trans mongoose
@@TransKidsMafiaThat would be the female spotted hyena (she has a mock penis & is bigger than the males) 😅
That eagle was living the dream for about 2 seconds. Darn. “Is this real life?”
A lucky day for the birds
More likely, the bateleur knew exactly what was coming. Bateleurs fly low and quarter the terrain very thoroughly, and are therefore often the first to find a carcass, especially in thick bush. Vultures and other eagles know this, and keep a beady eye on any and all bateleurs within visual range. When a bateleur suddenly plunges down, they check what's going on. Lions, hyenas, leopards and smaller carnivores are avid vulture watchers. When they see them dropping out of the sky in numbers, they will investigate, if they are close enough. The sequence show in this video is exactly what one would expect with a carcass dead of natural causes: Bateleur first, then other vultures and eagles, then mammalian predators. That's apart from the 10% (KNP estimate) of large mammal carcasses that are never found by predators or scavengers. The blow and flesh flies deal with those extremely quickly.
@@johanrebel Awesome comment 😊
Wildlife is beautiful, but these fights show a harsh reality. I wish for their safety.
@@wintvusa86 And to think that humans behave even worse. Everything animals do, people do too.

Who put in the effort to make the kill and then lost it to aggressive pan handlers?
So, I was there myself. If you can see, there is something sticking out at the back of the impala. I conclude that the impala died mid-birth
@@LatestsightingsI believe you're the one who put the impala there. Shame on you, you should apologize to me personally and then all your subscribers
@@rick6672😂 ur so incredibly silly lol
There was an eagle at the carcass first.. 🤔 but it can't have been the eagle who killed it.. it must have been the birth thing being said?

Contrary to what you think. It’s not easy to catch grown Impala’s, especially without a pride. They have a high survival rate
