In this video, I show you how to make your VW Golf 4 interior look like new again.
I ordered all the parts from AliExpress With just $150 including shipping costs, the shipping time was 20 days but it was worth the wait, the pieces fit and work perfectly.
The replacement and restoration process lasted almost two days.

This is what KZhead is made for!!! My dad says leave the job to the professionals but here we are!! This is a better job then what professionals can do!! Earned my sub and a like
wouldn’t go as far as saying this is better than a professional job, much rather this is ‘as good as a professional job’.
@@martin1649 This definitely isn't as good as a professional job. The wiring wasn't done right and the speaker install was also less that professional. Not to mention he painted the plastic around the AC and head unit inside the car getting overspray inside the hole for the head unit. It's not terrible, but not good either
@Dacia Sandero guys Most of it was good, but the few things I pointed out were a bit iffy. On the positive side I really liked how clean the head unit looks and I may order one for myself too.

My father destroyed the soft touch part around the hazard switch and the cup holders on a brand new A4 of the same era because the air freshener he bought had a leak, so it make sense to see it's been used like a sort of paint stripper. Really good job!
Yeah, my mother destroyed front panel of glovebox because of that shit - it somehow reacted with plastic. That was easy and cheap to fix but still I was so angry because of it.
bro this guy ruined the steering wheel
Seeing a golf MK4 interior again is bringing back some childhood memories
Goes to show that with a little care, even an interior this old can look amazing.
This is more than a little care dude

The car air freshener to remove the sticky stuff.... Omg life changer how did you find this stuff out man :)
And there’s me tryna get it off with my nails🤦🏼♂️
I had an golf 5 and I use this car perfume. When I took the perfume out from the box one drop of perfume dropped on a trim from the dashboard. That trim was covered with soft rubber. Next day the rubber was gone in that place were the perfume touched it.
@@DFCGarage unfortunately i also discovered that myself 😕
@@zico82495 same 😂
@@DFCGarage Im in the US and i cant find that air freshener anywhere. Do you have any suggestions on what I coud use instead or what ingredients are in it?
Quite satisfying to watch. I had a Glacier White Golf 4 2.0 Highline with black leather trim and the Factory Rcd shuttle radio. Unfortunately the soft touch plastic did not last as good as it looked. I loved the refinement that car had.
Both this and the b5.5 Passat had great interiors. So well built those cars were the last time I closed a door in a car to feel my ears pop too.
I love everything about this except the speaker downgrade. Going from components to coaxials seems like you went backwards. Otherwise, perfect job. My mk4 went through the same thing, where everything just started degrading. I did replace the door handles and removed the soft touch stuff from the dash panels, but never thought to paint them. I actually sold the car before I could do the door inserts. I got nearly 400K miles out of that car, and the new owner is still enjoying it to this day. Nice job!
Sorry to bother you mate ,but did it cost you a lot ?
@@marjobregu4777 Did which cost me a lot? The car or the door handles? The door handles I got from china for only around $25. They weren't the same quality as the originals, but they worked fine and looked a LOT better after all that time. I bought the car new, so it was around $20K in 2001. :-)

Beautiful 😍 just bothers me that he didn’t vacuum under the center console trim before putting it back 😄
wow, this cleaning method is awesome, i've used hard bristle brush and soapy water, but your effect is perfect, but I haven't painted mine, just polished with plack spray, and it looks ok for me
Please do more videos like this!! Have been searching on youtube for videos like this for months... Great job by the way!
You should use a speaker adapter bracket to raise the aftermarket speaker to the same level as the OEM woofer. Sound will sound muddy because a lot of the audio just goes into the door panel and not out through the speaker grill on door card. Don’t just rivet it directly and flush onto metal. 🙃
Also, window regulator might hit the back of the speaker magnet if you don't use 10-12mm spacer.
I was going to comment the same thing. Definitely will need the speaker adapter. He also could’ve used a speaker wire adapter as well.
Trabalho incrível!!! Meu sonho ver a interna do meu assim, mas no Brasil é tudo caro, ainda mais na minha região, vou ter q ir mexendo aos poucos, parabéns pelo trabalho, muito bom!!!
Simply perfect!! Wanna do this to my VW Santana 94 too.. Great inspiration!
Brilliant job. I’ve just bought a mk5 TDi and am in the process of doing similar
Did that in a slightly smaller scale last year. Hate this sticky soft-touch crap. Be careful with getting rid of that stuff though. I used acetone as people had suggested online and it was eating some of the surfaces. Ended up having to buy some parts new because the paint-stripper was too aggressive.
I can’t get that air freshener that this video used, do you have any suggestions on what else to use?
@@hypocritetrollbot7729 did you find a solution ? cause i'm still searching too
@@sosobigboss69 it’s hard finding time to try different things, but so far I’ve tried isopropyl alcohol. Definitely works at removing some of the sticky black tar, but I’m no where near being close to cleaning a single piece of the interior. It takes an incredible amount of “elbow grease.” I’m definitely open to other suggestions if you ever find alternative solutions
It was pleasure watching this video!
Going to start watching this before I go to sleep. So satisfying.
Wow I'm impressed! The MK4 Golf and Jetta are notorious for all these parts to show wear.

Thanks to this video, my interior looks just as good as yours. The black plastic color of the RN210 radio matches well with the surface I painted with the black matt spray paint and you really can't tell the diffrence. If someone wants a brandnew superior OEM look, this is what you should go after. Now with my Euro blue Recaro seats installed, I would totally prefer my MK4 over my MK5 GTI, even when it's a 1.9 TDI diesel. To remove the orginal paint, I used nail polish and whiped the rest with a towel and brake cleaner before putting actual paint on it. The only problem I am left with now, is that my heater isn't working properly. No heat coming out at all. Does anyone know what had may caused this issue and how I could fix it on my own? Thank you for further advice
Bad thermostat will often cause that problem.

Great job! What sheen did you use for the spray paint? Flat or satin?
First thing I did after getting my 01 Jetta 7 years ago.
Where did you get that steering wheel? What material is it?
It's just new leather. That's what leather looks like when new, it only gets shiny after your hands wear through it over the years. There are kits you can get on ebay for them, you just have to sew them on or do like he probably did and send it out to get it sewn on. $30 in parts.
This is perfect! I want to do this to mine!
Have a 04' Passat GL Wagon w/ 1.8T 5-Speed Manual. Shadow Blue Metallic outside, Anthricite & Grey on the inside that I'm restoring. Interior is 95% up to par. Driver door card is the only piece where the leather is coming out so I plan to replace the grey leather with black quilted diamond stitched material. Had hand sewed the black leather shifter boot to the shifter ring as I could only find a mk4 boot. Installed analog boost gauge with a steering column pod. Stock with 15in steelie rims replaced with 16in GLS Alloys and high performance tires. Still need to replace the bottom driver seat leather. Can't patch, fill, and dye it as it has heated seating. The rest of the interior is in great shape. Need to replace the floor carpeting but all around a great ride. Fun project. This spring will come front mount intercooler n taking out side mount. Exhaust cat back upgrade but not fart can rated. Poly bushing kit. Currently installing Big 3, 0 gauge kit for the 4 channel amp to power both component sets in the front and back. Gonna be running Orion XTR 750.4. I plan on adding a 2nd battery and so on. Been tough here and there with it but its coming along nicely. Motor doesn't waste oil despite its age as I'm aware of the faults.
