Did Brock Purdy prove that he’s a franchise QB? | NFL | SPEAK

Brock Purdy led the San Francisco 49ers to a comeback win over the Detroit Lions to advance to Super Bowl LVIII. Tom Brady said that Purdy has “done a great job”. Emmanuel Acho, Joy Taylor, James Jones, and LeSean McCoy debate whether or not Purdy has done enough to prove that he is a franchise QB for the 49ers.

  • I'm a Chiefs fan, but as early as last season, I have already acknowledged Brock Purdy as a top QB in the league. Top 10, maybe even Top 5 after this SB, depending how he plays He has the numbers, he has the poise, he has the composure, and most importantly, he has the wins. Brock Purdy has a 4-1 playoff record despite just being on his 2nd year. The lone loss was due to his injury. He has yet to lose a playoff game in which he played all minutes. For context, the "most talented" QB Lamar Jackson has 2 playoff wins in 6 seasons. Other players are built for numbers, some players are built for the clutch. Brock Purdy has showed us so far that he's built for both.

It takes a special fast processing quarterback to play behind that terrible offensive line combined with Shanahan’s complex offensive schemes. • Andy Reid couldn't win for years until he went to the Chiefs and got Patrick Mahomes. Jalen Hurts was only really good last season. This season, he was clearly struggling. I don't really understand why every time theres any argument about Purdy its "Yeah he wins, and yeah he plays super well, but..." Mahomes is probably the only QB that can take a talentless team to the playoffs, but we'll never know because he has had talent around him for years. Lamar and Allen struggled without talent around them. The biggest difference between Purdy and Jimmy is that Jimmy accounts for barely any part of the offense, while Purdy accounts for the majority of the offense. AND Jimmy had his defense bail him out every time, while Purdy doesnt always have that luxury. Having talent on the offense isnt an excuse to say that the QB isnt good enough

Does the GM even need to draft/trade for good players to build around their QB? Or it doesn't really matter because their Franchise QB can play with whoever and make it work successfully. I mean, Shady's talking like its a 1 man sport. I thought the definition of a Franchise QB is a QB that the organization believes in and locks him in for at least 5 yrs and builds a team around him so that they can compete for a championship title and a chance to bring home a Lombardi Trophy.

He can get out of the pocket to extend the play, or just flat out run for 1st downs. And the very best thing about Purdy is that dollar-for dollar, he is FAR AND AWAY the best value at QB in the entire league. Brock Purdy had some good plays but his best plays were the ones when he ran in the second half those were big plays, but he was out played by Goff for the majority of the game. Jordan love had a better game for 3 quarters.

    • @@victorfletcher4188 Talent around Purdy?? Tell that to his surgically repaired throwing arm due to his untalented pass blocking O-line around him. My honest opinion, what you said was a very uninformed statement and you are making a lot of false assumptions. Literally last week for example, how many plays had nothing there, open player wise or due to a collapsed pocket. The kid has to live in play action just to not get smashed. Every game Purdy has to overcome a bad pass blocking O-line (one good player Trent W.) and Shanahan’s weak to average at best drop back pass schemes, that either often fail all together, have no open players or checkdown for whatever reason (not that Purdy throws many checkdowns anyway). I could go on all day about this, but I don’t see the point when to me it seems obvious that you do not watch the actual all 22 film. Go flip on any of JT O’Sullivan’s weekly Purdy breakdowns this season to see what I’m talking about.

His runs end in dives for extra yds, not safe slides. You don’t need to be Mahomes to win the S Bowl. He’s definitely good enough to lead San Fran to victory

    • This is my question what is it that make you believe that he’s not a elite franchise quarterback for the 49ers for years to come cause all the talent he got around him and y’all believe he’s getting carried by the offense around him the only reason why he’s not a franchise quarterback? but during the fourth quarter he basically lead that team and a lot of clutch moments in the playoffs but that’s not elite to y’all, but y’all consider guys like Prescott to be elite quarterback in the regular season, but when the playoffs come around all of a sudden hes a no show same thing with Josh Allen, and same thing with Lamar. I’m just being honest not saying they are all ain’t no franchise quarterbacks for their teams but what Brock is doing for the first two years specially as the last pick of the draft is pretty elite if you asked me 🤷🏾‍♂️💯

  • He’s 24 in his first full season as a starter. The fact that he’s even in this conversation shows how good he is. Maybe he’s not a franchise quarterback right now but who’s to say he can’t get there. We’ve seen nothing to suggest he won’t continue to grow and improve. All I know is I’m happy he’s my QB and can’t wait to see how he continues to grow.

  • Former players at non QB positions always value physical talent, because physical talent is what makes the largest difference at the positions they played. But at the QB position, your mental aptitude for the game outshines pure physical ability at times. I hate when dudes say weird things like Kyler Murray is more talented than Purdy. All those game ending picks say he’s not. They gotta start focusing on what actually plays out on the field instead of the playground.

    • I don't think any of these commentators hate him. I just think they are confused by him. He doesn't look like what they expect a great QB to look like. He wasn't drafted high. He doesn't have a big arm. He isn't tall. He doesn't have big hands. He's not great with his legs (although we saw that's not the case last weekend). They have been waiting and waiting for Purdy to show why he was the last pick in the draft, but so far he hasn't really done that. They also forget he's basically still a rookie, who has had his first full season as a starter this season.

  • Moot argument because the goalpost is being moved and too many factors. They keep dropping the stat about how rare it is for a qb to take different teams to the playoffs. Outside of Pat, it’s hard to say the top QBs any given year could be successful for other teams. The ability to be successful for a team often depends on the general make up of the other players on the team. Justin Herbert has been unsuccessful but is a franchise guy.

Now that he is really getting used to the NFL we can see him running more, pulling out of the pocket more and still keeping his eyes down field. Even if doesn't win this weekend, I am still a fan going forward.
