  • Gutsy effort by McDonnell but the idea that Nelson was behind going into the final round, as the post-fight interviewer suggested to him at the end I don't get it. Nelson was very obviously ahead, even if one of the (blind) judges had McDonnell up by FOUR points, which should have been grounds to get that guy off judging world title fights in the future. In reality McDonnell was tiring badly in the 11th when his right eye completely closed and it should have been stopped by the ringside doctor. Allowing a fighter who was already fatigued, obviously behind on points, had been dropped and hurt earlier and who could no longer see out of one eye to go back in against a class champion and notorious puncher like Azumah was ridiculous. Could easily have ended up badly injured. In fact McDonnell would get spectacurly knocked out by non-puncher Kenny Vice in his very next contest, showing the damage that got inflicted on him late in this fight.

  • To all the Salvatore Sanchez suck-up fans out there. Nelson and Sanchez were months apart in age, but to compare a fighter in the amateur ranks to a hardened professional is laughable. If Nelson had trained for a 15 round fight, that fight would have been considerably different. If Nelson was given enough time to prepare, that fight might have had different ending. If Nelson had been afforded a year or two of seasoning, that fight would have been different. But the real clincher in this whole debate is the fact that Azumah fought exactly (25) days before he fought Sanchez. He went six rounds. Had he been fresh, I believe he would have given Sanchez a drubbing. Keep in mind that despite all these obstacles and impediments, Nelson was leading on one of the cards. Given proper time to prepare, despite Sanchez's greatness, I firmly believe he would walk right through him.

Azumah bid his time, he knew Jim had a reach advantage, was far younger and energetic. strategy;simple let the younger guy wear himself out. block all his power punches. from round 9 plus, unleash power punches further wear him out. the coup d'grace appears at round last round. • @@bigdaddy4069 Nelson would have ground him down by plodding forward and waiting for him to gas. Nas *might* have won on points. Nelson lost to another slick moving southpaw because he just couldn't pin him down. I think Nas loses. But it's good fight

    • Late comment but it needs to be made. Nothing wrong with supporting the homeboy even when he loses. Nothing worse than fake fans that turn their backs on somebody when they lose. Do you not understand what loyalty is?

  • I loved to watch Azumah Nelson, but the one disappointment for me was he refused to fight Brian Mitchell of South Africa, citing Apartheid, which I thought was an excuse, as Mitchell was one hell of a great boxer.
