Gutsy effort by McDonnell but the idea that Nelson was behind going into the final round, as the post-fight interviewer suggested to him at the end I don't get it. Nelson was very obviously ahead, even if one of the (blind) judges had McDonnell up by FOUR points, which should have been grounds to get that guy off judging world title fights in the future. In reality McDonnell was tiring badly in the 11th when his right eye completely closed and it should have been stopped by the ringside doctor. Allowing a fighter who was already fatigued, obviously behind on points, had been dropped and hurt earlier and who could no longer see out of one eye to go back in against a class champion and notorious puncher like Azumah was ridiculous. Could easily have ended up badly injured. In fact McDonnell would get spectacurly knocked out by non-puncher Kenny Vice in his very next contest, showing the damage that got inflicted on him late in this fight.

yup. although boxrec shows he would have won on two out of three cards but the fact is, yes McDonnell put up a hell of a scrap no doubt about that but no judge should have had him winning period. especially McDonnell up 106-102. the other two judges had it exactly the opposite, 106-102 for Nelson at the time of the KO. those are more like the real score imo. so yeah nelson could not afford to risk a judges decision

To all the Salvatore Sanchez suck-up fans out there. Nelson and Sanchez were months apart in age, but to compare a fighter in the amateur ranks to a hardened professional is laughable. If Nelson had trained for a 15 round fight, that fight would have been considerably different. If Nelson was given enough time to prepare, that fight might have had different ending. If Nelson had been afforded a year or two of seasoning, that fight would have been different. But the real clincher in this whole debate is the fact that Azumah fought exactly (25) days before he fought Sanchez. He went six rounds. Had he been fresh, I believe he would have given Sanchez a drubbing. Keep in mind that despite all these obstacles and impediments, Nelson was leading on one of the cards. Given proper time to prepare, despite Sanchez's greatness, I firmly believe he would walk right through him.
@niiaryeeankrah98309 ай бұрын
If, if, if, if. If doesn't win fights. IF you rewatch that fight you will see that Sal only fought as hard as he needed to. He could have finished Nelson much sooner IF he had wanted to. My dad used to hate him, GN "were you happy to score that goal?" Dad scowls at telly, "No, he was gutted, course he was happy, what a tit!!"
Jim was a good fighter, performed well against a great fighter in azumah nelson Gave his all
ooh yeah AZUMAH NELSON is a better fighter than jim
Curtis Ankamah are you on tablets or something?
@@kingsrd1 no ,why are you on tablets or something?
Curtis Ankamah no, are you sure you are not on tablets? Maybe they are tablets that make you forget stuff..... Like you being on tablets.
@@kingsrd1 well i said what i said so i can used capital letter for Azuma same us you started Jim with a capital but unfortunately you did not get it
Nelson was indeed a professor which really knows his work
The one and only professor.
What a gutsy performance.
I wonder why the trainers of Jim didn't see that Azumah was a tactician on the stage. They shouldn't have advised Jim to adopt Jeff Fenech's style of pushing Azumah to the corners of the rope. It invariably spelt the doom of many challengers in the ring.
Back when sport was free on tv
It's still free in countries like Holland, Germany, France and the entire Europe or continent, only your country England has made everything payable
Some much respect for Jimmy Mac.... up against an all time great.
Nelson: when I smell blood, I go for it..
Buen boxeador sal Sánchez mucho megor pero se adelantó que bueno que el ganes supo conservar buen tiempo el título y darle una lección de boxea a wilfredo Gómez
Shows me how great Savador Sanchez was .
Barry Mcguigan ran the Fuck away from Nelson that’s why Nelson never got that fight.
McDowell was game in this fight and he boxed so well than people gave him credit for!! That’s was a pretty good fight!!
DESPITE RECEIVING ALL THE HEADBUTTS IN EVERY ROUND, DESPITE ALL THE HITTING AND HOLDING IN EVERY ROUND DESPITE ALL THE SHOULDERS IN THE FACE IN EVERY ROUND THE BEST FIGHTER STILL WON.
Shut up you nonce
Azumah the greatest lightweight ever
They are best both, what a fight
Azumah seems to be indicating to McDonnell that you can RUN, but you cannot HIDE.
Legend Azumah😂😂
British crowds are completely different from others, class
Haggler , Minton ?
When, Jim realised he was running out of gas, he should have gone to the gas station.
Azumah Nelson, master piece. He deliberately had Jim do all the work till he got extremely exhausted, then knock the blood cloth out of the boy. Well done Jim, but know your levels next trip. Better luck in your reincarnation son😂😂😂
He gets knocked in to his next incarnation when he comes back. Look for his fight with Kenny Vice
Biased commentators!! He was completely beaten from start to end
I miss the itv boxing intro
Total fatigue, however Jim you’re a soldier ok. U fought with the best class that’s all. Sorry
They both fought for the same amount of minutes. The best won.
Nelson is a great fighter no question about it but he makes the mistakes of not cutting the ring but rather following Jim around the ring
Azumah always a confident fighter
Nelson wanted to kill the guy hahahahahaha
He nearly got killed in the bloody ring n still have nerves to talk rubbish. Typical
No shame in losing to a great like Nelson
These announcers are almost as bad as Jim Lampley.
I love how these commentators are pulling for Jim and seeing phantom punches landing. Well . . . let's see how it turns out.
Que Boxeadorazos.La Displina de Asuma Nelson y su Tenacidad.y del Otro su Valentía y su Integridad me Dejaron Impresionado.
Yes, close indeed. Look @ the wife’s face hahahaha hahahaha. She can feel the African lions crawling from afar ooo.
Azumah couldn't risk points
yup. although boxrec shows he would have won on two out of three cards but the fact is, yes McDonnell put up a hell of a scrap no doubt about that but no judge should have had him winning period. especially McDonnell up 106-102. the other two judges had it exactly the opposite, 106-102 for Nelson at the time of the KO. those are more like the real score imo. so yeah nelson could not afford to risk a judges decision
C'est toujours l'Afrique qui gagne
there was no way Azuma was going to walk away with his belt had it gone to 12 rounds as some of the judges had Jim ahead
Brave lad Jim McDonnell
If, if, if, if. If doesn't win fights. IF you rewatch that fight you will see that Sal only fought as hard as he needed to. He could have finished Nelson much sooner IF he had wanted to. Nelson was a great fighter. He would have been even greater IF he could have beaten Sal. He didn't even come close.
i remember these days of the classic uk "nearly man" thank fuck we moved on to winners!
Hey, full credit for heart
Is that Lennox Lewis at 5:13 ?
Yes it is him.
Good catch
Great AN
kind of an insult to Azumah to even have to fight him
Love Jimmy McDonald’s humility though, but that wasn’t good enough to conquer the professor from the sea side. Sorry, mate.
EL ÚNICO QUE NOQUEÓ A AZUMA.SALVADOR SÁNCHEZ.AL MORIR SANCHEZ. NELSON TOMO SU LUGAR
Yes this is real asuma wow
I think Jeff Fenech learnt a lot in this fight with Nelson buy keeping him pressed on the ropes.
Definitely Jeff's downfall in the second fight - keeping Nelson pressed on the ropes.
@@Nana-ur7nh yes you are right. Nelson watched the first fight saw fenech’s mistakes and then Bombs 💣 away. This fight Finished ✅ Fenech. 🥊
Titusglover your a berk Nelson took jm lightly eye injury was main factor in stoppage couldn't see punches coming with out that like to have seen how would have won on points if jm nelson would have destroyed him in a rematch
Jim moved up to lightweight after this and got knocked out cold by a guy called Kenny Vice. A real "oh fuck me I killed him" knock out.
Gorn ol martin
McDonald had a lot of heart deserves the greatest of respect but nowhere near the skill levels or stamina off Ken Buchan
They. Should. Of. Stop. The. Fight a. Couple. Of. Rounds. Earlier. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Jim was quite illusive. Throw one two jabs and runs around so it frustrated Azumah Nelson. But Jim cannot stand tow to tow, pound for pound with Azumah Nelson who was a heavier puncher. He tried tow to tow and that was his mistake. Azumah out powered and outpunched him when it matters the most.
Toe to toe bro
jeez can't believe i heard a Scotsman commenting say Jim is the hero tonight - such bs...this is boxing my friend...u win by strategy. Azumah bid his time, he knew Jim had a reach advantage, was far younger and energetic. strategy;simple let the younger guy wear himself out. block all his power punches. from round 9 plus, unleash power punches further wear him out. the coup d'grace appears at round last round. Azumah is the hero...the commentary showed lots of bias in favour of Jim. the legend Azumah Nelson wins against the bias home odds.
Salvador Sanchez defeated Nelson
Jim Macdounut
Did you have two world championship fights dickhead?
Azumah Nelson el caballeros del boxeo
The Great Azumah Nelson could've take him out in 1st round, but not good for business, reasons Greatest gave Jimmy more runs 😉 known Azumah Nelson for time sharing the same street 😅, you don't mess with his brother's, because you aren't going to win 🤣🤣👍😎
Seriously weeded,spanked and beaten
This is punishment.
Azumah Nelson was devastating the man who buried Pat Cowdell thirty five years ago in Birmingham. Jimmy McDonnell might be brave but he had no chance and the last round in London proved it.
Pat Cowdell is still very much alive and well.
@@davidkirkwood9537 Dave, it’s a expression
Nelson was to strong for McDonell
Jim was so far ahead too,naz would've destroyed both of them either way lol
Naz would've destroyed Nelson ? You know who Nelson was dont you ?
He was losing a split decision. 106-102 102-106 102-106
Naz destroy Azumah Nelson ??? You sure fella ?
@@bigdaddy4069 Nelson would have ground him down by plodding forward and waiting for him to gas. Nas *might* have won on points. Nelson lost to another slick moving southpaw because he just couldn't pin him down. I think Nas loses. But it's good fight
Joke of the decade
But for two slips ?????
All British commentators are biased
Typical British funs, who always stays supporting you even when you are loosing.. McDonnell with swollen eye yet thinks will win
Late comment but it needs to be made. Nothing wrong with supporting the homeboy even when he loses. Nothing worse than fake fans that turn their backs on somebody when they lose. Do you not understand what loyalty is?

I loved to watch Azumah Nelson, but the one disappointment for me was he refused to fight Brian Mitchell of South Africa, citing Apartheid, which I thought was an excuse, as Mitchell was one hell of a great boxer.
He didn't duck a soul.
