You know it!
First off, 100% YES. Give me purple, and give me the butterfly. It is also worth noting what Purple represents in Psychology. Besides the usual royalty, wealth, and spirituality, it also represents mystery, and more importantly, IMAGINATION/CREATIVITY. While Watching, one Tyler line that kept popping up in my head for the color wheel: "break the cycle in half." So if they don't do Purple, swerve us and do Black and White (or any other color), that could be a reason why.
My knee-jerk reaction to people advocating for a black/white album is that the lack of saturation symbolizes the control of DEMA. I would think they'd pick a color (purple or otherwise) to signify their creativity is back and firing on all cylinders, symbolizing they're of their own free will once more!
what if their "break the cycle in half" will be after the purple by either going B&W or just retiring from the scene? (hope not the latter tho)
A music video where tyler gets in the hds car at the end would be the perfect ending to the dema storyline, like a half prequel that never truly ends and keeps the cycle going.
I would love to see the whole thing repeat, even if it's a bit morbid. I love the cyclical nature of the story they've been working on!
I actually think we’ll see Tyler has broken the cycle. That there really has been a change for him and the things that were such a battle in the past are now mostly behind him. He’s found/been given a way to live differently. I think that would give a lot of people a lot of hope.
@@silver292I wholly agree. Mental health is a lot like addiction. Never really gone, but meaning and good change means progress forward. I can't see Tyler going back to hopelessness in his music or with his life and family. And for the sake of his fans
I think the cyclical theory is pretty solid. So far each of the three albums in the Dema storyline has taken a different look at mental health. I know there's a lot missing from these short descriptions, but I think these themes are definitely present in the first three albums: Blurryface really tries to express what it's like living in the middle of a Dema situation. Some songs, like Polarize, The Judge, and Hometown, express a desire for escape and growth, but we never see it fulfilled. Others, such as Doubt and Goner, give a picture of what it can be like there. Trench, on the other hand, is about fighting back. So many of the songs talk about conflict and sometimes victory over the bishops, and the music videos show Tyler escaping Dema and going to Trench. Then we have Scaled and Icy, which is Dema's propaganda album. Less confident here, but there could be elements that point to times when someone tries to put on a brave face, pretend like nothing's wrong, or even make their mental health seem better than it really is. It would be really interesting to see this last album capture a fourth aspect of mental health, and maybe bring the message full circle. I also think the color wheel has some weight to it. TLDR; Each of the 3 Dema albums focuses on a different aspect of mental health, so it would make sense that the next one takes a different perspective as well.
Love this breakdown! This definitely holds a lot of water! I also think that the purple butterfly represents an end to a cycle, so thematically, that fits right in as well.

I was gonna say caterpillar to butterfly but technically there’s eggs first, then caterpillar and when they are in a cocoon, one thing I only learned recently, before it becomes a butterfly it amalgamates together after being mush inside. I’m probably not explaining it right so you can check that out (and I will too 😂) but it’s all gooey and unrecognizable at 1st, so it looks worse before it’s better. Not saying this was exactly in their minds when choosing this but most people know caterpillars turn to butterflies, a not so pretty creature to a pretty one which can now fly away 😉 🦋. This is just random thoughts I’m having that I don’t expect others were thinking or connected but it’s interesting…a cocoon hides what’s inside to keep it safe. It looks like a mummy wrapped up, like in a tomb…how it can seem dead, but it comes back to life. It breaks through and it has to break through itself to strengthen its wings. If you break it open for the butterfly, the wings won’t be strong enough to fly afterwards. 🤔 🧐🤯😎🤩

I was kinda getting discouraged as the newer music was starting to sound mainstream or sold out but hopefully now going forward…Recently I started listening to their older stuff again and igniting the passion for this band again. When I saw the anniversary for Vessels, that made me happy. It was the 1st album I was introduced to them with (heard Holding Onto You first). Got that CD and Blurryface. I was shook how fast that caught fire and they became a well known band. But yeah, I felt like they were looking back to their roots by revisiting that…I have to watch their live now as someone had pointed out they share some of their unreleased songs there. I wish I could hear their first songs. Anyhow, this brings even deeper meaning for me to learn. I’m usually a pretty deep thinker (and feeling) but this wasn’t something I realized as having so much forethought! Reminds me of the music video for Ode to Sleep! I just watched a reaction video to it before I came here and was reminded of how they started to where they are now. The beginning of the video starts with just 12 people in the audience as they perform, then goes to like 300 then like 3000. I prob have the #s off but the point is, he worked on the video when they were really ‘small’ while he had the vision of this going somewhere ‘big’ and he documented that journey. So, in faith, he knew they could get there and prepared for it 🥹. Hope that makes sense and was worth sharing 🥰☮️.

Similarly to you I disliked Scaled and Icy from my first listen, but as I've been finding out more about the lore and messages it holds it's been growing on me (though their older stuff will always be my favorite). They always put a ton of thought into the lore and themes behind their music, if you look close enough. The Vessel anniversary livestream was great! Definitely recommend watching it :) Thanks for sharing about the Ode to Sleep music video! I haven't seen it but I'll have to do that now!
I completely agree. Purple makes the most sense. I also don’t think Tyler wearing a purple butterfly was a coincidence. The symbolism of the butterfly representing new life / new beginnings ties in. And I also agree that it will end with a Truce with the Bishops. Although I’m wondering if Tyler will take down Nico and dismantle Vialism. That would be a major victory. I like your thought about how Vessel provided the road map for this cyclical journey from Ode to Sleep to Truce. We already know that they’ve pulled from the lyrics of Migraine (Island of Violence). Also, I think it’s significant that during the Vessel 10th Anniversary variety stream, Tyler changed one very important lyric in Truce from “I hope I’m not my only friend” to “I KNOW I’m not my only friend.” 🥰 He’s come such a long way. I think it would be cool if the cycle ended with Tyler behind the seat of the car, rather than trapped in the backseat. I go back to the way they introduced the mv for The Outside, which is our bridge to the final chapter: “before this, the odds seemed insurmountable. but now, an equalizer. everything will be in position. all the pieces on the board, ready for the final push.” (Posted day before release) “this is a story about cycles, and trying to break them. about discerning between external and internal attacks. and about balance. a balance between being saved by a friend, and saving yourself. here is the official video for The Outside” So once Tyler has and knows how to use the tools and weapons against the power and control of the Bishops, he will have the ability to take the wheel, save himself, and leave the captivity of Dema behind. I’m SO excited!!

I would also like to speculate what the color is meant to signify thematically. Red showed the horror of the demons, and blurryface was all about personifying the inner demons. Yellow is associated with happy thoughts, and Trench was centered on josh breaking tyler out, yellow flowers being a symbol of attempts and distractions, and how the bishops cant see yellow (happy thoughts) Blue is mostly speculation for me but i think it was about what we see is a cool, normal guy despite the thing underneath being a darker, redder feeling, like the blue sky, and how even though theres a lot of blue through SAI, theres usually either pink or red right next to it. Purple is associated with royalty, as it was a very expensive dye in the olden days, but now is easier to achieve, like healthy mental health, i think the purple album will be them reminiscing of what happened in the blurryface era, going face to face against the demons, and finding out theres another way aside from "the high road" and that the days with unhealthy mental health where people were depressed is inevitable, and that theres an alternative to get the beautiful purple life you desire without removing the difficulty to achieve it and the false fact that the bishops are telling the citizens of dema. Depression is unavoidable, but it is escapable. Also storytelling wise, Tyler WILL return to that car except theres gonna be a different driver, either the three men Tyler mentioned in Taxi Cab or Tyler himself.
I am personally a heavy believer in next era = purple, and it's something I've been advocating for a good few months, especially the "story will end back on hds" idea because it honestly just makes the most sense given everything we've been exposed to thus far. There's another reason why I think purple is likely to be the next era colour that I don't think has been discussed yet and that's pet cheetah. Pet cheetah's visualiser colours were purple and orange - orange is a colour that heavily symbolises and in-between state of positivity and negativity. Purple on the other hand is a mixture of red (blurryface) and blue (defeat) which could possibly imply a defeat/truce of blurryface. Pet cheetah is a song about utilising music to find how to traverse personal problems/defeat them. From a story perspective, it makes sense that the era colour will possibly reflect a storyline that focuses somewhat on the "end" of the bishops, even if - in my personal belief - only Nico survives or he restarts the cycle
I love this theory! I’ve always wondered how the cycle could repeat with Keons dead (that was the one plot hole I couldn’t figure out) but knowing that Nico could have the ability to restart the timeline and bring back the deceased bishops… that would close that hole! Love the comment, DEMA!

I LOVE this theory, it's the first one that's seriously shaken my #TeamOrange status, but I do just need to point one thing out: "break the cycle in half" if we're at blue right now, and we wanted to break the cycle in half, AKA go to the exact opposite side of the wheel, where would we end up? orange. and after we've drawn this line from blue to orange, what shape do we wind up with? I would agree with this… except I feel like Heathens took the place of orange during its “mini era” after Blurryface. Who knows! In the end, it’s a win win for me, since orange is my favorite color🧡

Okay I don't know if that makes sense but hear me out, imagine their are not doing purple on purpose to kinda of break the cycle that they where "trapped in". And they will end up making a completely different thing that no one has expected.. just a little random thought. But I personally hope the purple era is true
Your theory easily makes the most sense with what we know. Cycles and loops are present a lot, even going back before Blurryface. Blurryface was the introduction to the ‘big bad guy’ of the story. It showed us what Tyler is facing up against, giving us context before the story really begins. This gives the weight to the story. I think the next 3 albums present 3 different reactions to mental health struggles. Trench is about escapism, SAI is about giving up control, and the final album will be about fighting back. I’m sure we’ll get some sort of connection back to the HDS music video to complete the cycle, but it’ll be different this time around. Tyler could either “break the cycle in half” by defeating the bishops or somehow go back into the cycle with new knowledge and experience. But the color theory really ties it all together. It seems like a very Tyler thing to do!
This makes sense. You could also say that the original red and blue logo had ties to personal internal struggle, so making peace with both sides of yourself (a truce) you are coming together with your internal self, the red and the blue, thus making purple.

OMG 🤯🥹👏🏼. I luv this❣️🥺 I have no words 😩. I loved their music in the beginning and a lot of their later music. I sorta lost track of them for a while, not as into the last album but I haven’t heard it enough yet. This makes so much sense and I have a good feeling about this album that I physically reacted out loud like clapping and excitedly “yes!” 💪🏼 I also think [not sure if this is purposeful…omg that word sounds like purple (1st 4 letters)] but Red & Blue makes purple. The colours of their logo near the beginning has those colours. So maybe there’s a bit of both there. Side note, my fav colour as a kid was red, then for many years it was blue, now I like blue & purple (especially) though I obviously can still appreciate different colours at different times, so I guess simply could say indigo 😆.
I promised my friends that I would dye my hair the Color of the new album from TØP, and then I suspected it would be purple, and I really love that color, so I'm really really really happy about this video!!😂

Cool theory - and I agree purple just feels right! Red could be representing the night when you battle your struggles and Blurryface is in full control. Yellow would be representing the morning when you are fighting against your demons and trying to escape dema. Blue is daytime when you are in denial and are supressing your feelings to be happy. That makes me believe that the purple era will be about the evening when you start loosing hope again, making it a very dark era that would complete the cycle back to where it started with Blurryface.

I’m convinced the next album is gonna be black and white. It was teased in all the Icy tour promo, the MTV Unplugged session and even in their clothes in The Outside music video. It makes the most sense to me as well, because this next album will be the last one of the dema story, and I think thematically, things will be more black and white and we will be able to distinguish good from evil more easily than we have before. I’ve felt that for a long time now, and I think it makes the most sense.
My knee-jerk reaction to a black and white era is that the absence of color implies a control of DEMA (think of the "I can feel my saturation leaving me slowly" line from Good Day). Since this album will likely reflect one final rebellion against the Bishops, I predict a big push into a vibrant color to resist DEMA's control. Time will tell!
@@Stolen.Potential Interesting, I actually feel the opposite. The Saturation that came with the SAI era was the propaganda of Dema. Making everything seem bright and happy was the control that Dema was imposing during the whole last era; covering darkness with false happiness. Regardless of what it ends up being, it is fun the theorize and hear what other people think it will be. I’m definitely excited for what’s next, whatever it is!

Would love to see purple. Although it's the most popular theory out there, I can't be convinced that the storyline will end in a truce. I'm rooting for the defeat of the bishops and my proof is in Clancy's last letter, "we will destroy and rebuild" that's what I'm clinging to. We shall see. :)

Also, if you look at the self titled album cover, you can see that it’s almost the exact colors order as on their albums, like purple and green -> self titled, blue -> vessel, red -> blurryface, yellow -> trench, and then we have purple pink and blue, and it should have been pink blue AND purple to complete the order, but it’s almost exact so idk, maybe it means something ? Also orange, for regional at best is missing so yeah, weird.. I’ve been thinking about it for at least 3 years and I can’t get it out of my mind

I was looking at my icy tour videos of no chances- which I see as the track that connects back to dema storyline after SAI… and purple lighting was heavily prominent and the trident symbol was white. They contrasted perfectly. I can see it on merch! And I like thinking of it being the opposite of black from blurryface era.

This theory makes sense pretty much, but I still think it's gonna be blue. 1) Blurryface clearly REJECTS that colour. He has tweeted that back in 2015, then Tyler wore blue onstage. 2) If Vessel is a cycle and it's a two-colour era (blue-red), then red represents insecurities just like in BF and blue is supposed to represent stability. That's why the blue slash is the straight one and the red slash is the tilted one, representing instability or imbalance. 3) In Scaled and Icy we have two colours: pink and light blue. Pink could either be how the Bishops see yellow since they suffer from tritanopia, or a desaturated, soft version of red used to manipulate people in Dema, and light blue is a desaturated version of blue, which is the actual colour of sanity and stability (let's not forget that SAI is an album made by the Bishops from their perspective, with their intentions, and not from the Pilots' perspective). That's why the guys probably never wore pink in their recent concerts, but did wear a lot of blue. Also Tyler's hair was pink during the livestream, which was directed by Dema. 4) Red, yellow and blue (RYB) are the primary colours of paint, while red, green and blue (RGB) are the primary colours of light. Judge yourself. 5) You might wonder what yellow means. Well, rembember it is the Banditos' colour. It represents rebellion, resistance, escape and battle, but not fulfilled mental health or emotional stability.

I don't think it's purple but more of a pink. Watch the video Choker and look at all the refences to pink. When he is in the shop the pink chicken toy behind Tyler faces forwards and then away. The pink band on Tyler's finger. The pink on Josh's shirt. Lots of pink toys in the shop. I dont think its a one album deal. I would say its 2 albums. Pink to puple, a slow transition. Like slowing the wheel down. I know it is all speculation, just giving my thoughts on it.
If it is purple, they HAVE to play a smoke on the water in a live show

For me, itwould make perfect sense if it wasn't purple. I don't know but Shy Away literally says "break the cycle in half". Maybe I'm going for the stretch but just let me cook.
They broke the cycle in half by making the SAI Era colors blue and pink (the shades of blue and pink are right across each other on the wheel)! Purple is the only remaining color on the wheel that they haven’t touched.

We will see! My knee jerk reaction to black and white is that the lack of color within the Dema Universe represents control by the Bishops. Desaturation isn’t good. Seeing that the boys will be fighting back (hard) against the Bishops with this next album, I think they’ll really lean into a vibrant color to represent creativity and their resistance against their control! Time will tell😊
@@Stolen.Potential this is fair, i think it could go either way just because it would so well contrast the fakeness of scaled and icy's vibrance. clancy said himself in a letter that the vibrant colors they used were likely used to compensate for the lack of color in dema. sure, a hopeful way to see it is that real vibrance will be found in this next record. but i could also see it just being that, while sai was from the perspective of the bishops trying to glorify the commitment of life to dema, the next album would be from the perspective of what dema REALLY looks like- cold, colorless, and depressing as hell i also think it would provide really cool thematic consistency with it all wrapping back around to where it all started, those black and white letters and images from clancy on the dema website
