It’s a silly proverb or saying to make kids laugh while they were crying or upset. It usually works 😂
My grandma used to comfort us with "The more you cry, the less you pee", like it's okay to cry, it has perks😂 She didn't like watching us crying but she never said something like "stop crying!", so we didn't bottle up
@@user-op5wh3hv8ohaha, is your grandma French? "Vas-y, pleure, tu pisseras moins !"
@@AgentLane13 nah, she's Ukrainian from Russia. It's just something universal haha
My father would simply ask me if something broke. I'd look around to check, and since nothing broke... I'd just stop crying... Children are weird. They don't understand shit, you can make them believe anything😂
I'm from Denmark... My grandmother is 80.. I'm 45.…. She is that grandmother. 🥳🥳🥳🥳🤣🤣🤣
In French what I got was "cry, you'll piss less later."
In Russia too 😂
... lucky, in french all i got from my grandma was "you're ugly when you cry" 💀
That's kind of bleak😅
Lucky! All I got was “cochon” when I was crying 😂 what a loving family
In creole ( ile de la réunion) we've got "gard comment ou lé vilain quand ou pler!!!" In english "look how ugly you are when you're crying!!" And we'll see how in fact we look a mess when crying...i have 2 kids now and my almost 4 months old is in this mode right now 😂😂😂
My very stern never hugged me one time German grandmother told us “ you have to be a actress on that mattress to make a marriage work”. 😐
😂
Sounds like hell
I’m sorry WHAT NOW?? 😂 she must have struggled in life
😂😂😂😂😂😂
If you wonder... it's not a German saying...
As a Korean here, YES. That's an actual saying in Korea. And I will be telling it to my kids, too.
How do u say it in korean?
@@smhXD21 "울다가 웃으면 엉덩이에 털 난다~"
@@markkass7718 what does it mean?
@@shukriisse6917 It means exactly what Greta said. ;) "You laugh while crying, you'll grow hair on you a$s."
@@markkass7718 is there a meaning behind this saying or are we supposed to interpret it directly?
The older I get the more I’m repeating my grandmother’s ‘wives tales’. I understand them now 😏
Helpful to traumatize others? 😂😂
No fr 😂🤣 I catch myself all the time like oh no I’m turning into them 😭😭
@deathvvitch it's a natural process lol, no avoiding it
My mum always said " Don't worry, you'll soon be dead". A morbid Irish saying I think.
Then you have to add "so ya are!"
"Not if I see you first ma" the author replied menacingly
I’d get told “call me when you’re crying blood”
"Life sucks, and then you die, but first you suffer for a really long time" is the one I've been told, heh.
There's a popular Finnish Christmas carol that basically says "the life doesn't last long and even that is all doom and gloom so hey elves, jump around. It's time for the freshest joy!"
In Dutch we have a phrase roughly translated "don't make that face for too long, if the clock chimes it might stay that way forever" often directed at kids pouting or making faces
I'm american, and my grandmother used to tell us that all the time 😂
@@leegee1839 Dutch roots maybe? Same here, haven't heard it in ages but it's definitely a grandparent thing to say haha
@@MissRandomComment Yes my grandmother was actually so that's fun knowing that it's a Dutch phrase. There were other things she'd say too, idk if they were as well or just common proverbs and such but she was a beautifully kind and loving woman ☺️
@@leegee1839 That's so cool knowing your grandmother was Dutch it actually checks out! Such a fun way to remember her by. This made me really happy to read. Hope it did the same for you!
@@MissRandomComment It really did thank you!
i am Korean and as long as i understand with my experiences, that saying does not mean anything. it just a joke to tease or make fun of children. you know, a child crying with any reason, mom trying to make the child feel good, finally the child became calm and smile. that moment this joke comes from the mom. 😊 then we all laugh together.
이게 진짜 맞는 설명같아요!! 약간 놀리면서 분위기를 풀어주고 아이 기분 좋게 만들어주는 농담같은 거였어요ㅎㅎㅎ
LMFAOO the fact that her mind actually blocked it is so real 😂
In Greenlandic we have a saying that goes "if you keep crying the crows will eat your eyes" lol Edit: I somehow forgot to add that you only say it when you are outside and not inside lol
LOLOL
I love this so much! 😂 I don’t even know why.
That's pretty metal. I love when the sayings go so hard for no reason lol
My late grandgramma used to tell us girls not to whistle or our boobs will get too large 😂
I'd have been whistling constantly 😂😂😂
Oh that’s why my………😢
Now I know what to do. Is it works for male, too?
The way she smiles in the end knowing she has carried on the legacy
If you’re a Korean, you heard or said this at least 10 times in your life lol😂
I must have cried and laughed a lot in my past life 😅
😂
"울다가 웃으면 똥구멍에 털난다" hhhhh
I am gonna get this tattooed on me. When people ask what it means I will say "love, live laugh". Thank you

Sounds a bit like, "Don"t let the door knob hit you where the good Lord split you." No matter the culture the message is the same. ❤
door -knob-
What does it mean?
@@lone1905 It's a sarcastic way of telling someone you don't care that they're leaving; i.e., don't let the door hit you in the a$$ as you're walking out.
The gays would not like that.
Except this is an expression said to kids while they are crying to make them laugh and stop crying, haha. It's not supposed to be a mean thing.
My siblings would always say this to me so I wouldn't be so sad over whatever it was I was crying about. I forgot about this, I'm so happy I was reminded of this!!!
I totally though she was gonna say "stop crying or I'll give you something to cry about" lol
Our german father used to say that...😂
* speaks Korean * You don't tell me! Thanks man that was helpful.
well it would ruin the delivery of her saying what it means. we find out what she’s trying to say 5 seconds later
People with hearing difficulties need cues like that to understand what everyone else is hearing.
she basically stuttered in korean, I'm pretty sure even korean speakers didn't understand what she was trying to say
Now I'm traumatized. Thanks for that.
I am a Korean and never thought it'd sound so funny when you said the stuff in English.
Very helpful subtitles
I saw her movie and it was so good. She's absolutely stunning in the film and the background music was haunting.
Meanwhile my grandma says weird proverbs about appearance like "you look like an orphan in the rain"
whenever id grow out of my clothes and they'd be too tight my nanny would say "you look like you cried for it"
Reminds me of my Southern US grandma telling me "tough ninnies!" Lmao

My dad used to say this catchy little phrase whenever my sister and I were cutting up or being little hams “ I’m gonna kick your ass until your nose bleeds” 😂 🤷🏻♀️ what ?? The funny thing is my dad never once laid a hand on myself or my sister he just had this aura about him that said “play with the bear at your own risk” 😂 He was the best father anyone could ever have. He passed away when I was 14 and my sister was 12.
That's a shame, sorry to hear!! My dad just passed a few years ago when I was like 30 and I'm still upset about it. Can't imagine losing him so young but it's good that it sounds like you look at him with a positive light. God bless you and your sister
I got "i'll punch your face and kick your guts out" and "Did your mother have any kids that lived??" 😂 I found it very endearing as a kid and saw nothing wrong with it at the time
Yeah, sometimes people dont even realize theyve been treated poorly. Dad sounds f'd up!
I bet he was fun guy 😊
So sweet and sour at the same time
Sour candy BLACKPINK
for me, it was “if u cry and laugh at the same time, worms will craw out of ur ass” or something like that. i’m half korean (moms side) and my mom said my grandma used to say that to her lol
We had that saying in Spanish, and it basically said that if you crossed your eyes and a fly flew by, your eyes will remain crossed forever.
"Hilarious not hairass, Grandma!"😂😂😂😂❤🙌🙌🙌
Hahaha it goes like this. 울다가 웃으면 꽁구멍에 털난다😅

Mine is similar .. If you cry and laugh at the same time.. You must have drank grandmother's swine urine.. 😂..
Woa woa woa lmao that one is CRAZY lol
This explains so much
It explains a lot! Thank YOU I have arrived.
Me late mum said (in Russian, OFC): "If your head hurts, your arse is just fine" 🤣😂
ROTFLMFAO! Funny in Korean AND English! 🤣
I like that. It teaches to not hide your intentions and be honest with your emotions. You can laugh till you cry, and cry until you laugh but using a smile to manipulate people while you're crying on the inside is deceptive and self destructive.
That idiosyncratic Korean expression always worked beautifully on me. It made me laugh when I was crying.
Boy George is just happy to be there ♥️
Well, that explains a lot.... 😳😂
In Jamaica I got: u wah sumn for cry fah or stop cry before mi gi u sumn fi Cray fah😅
When your custom character is in a cutscene
So THAT'S how it happened!
The German alternative is great It’s “child you have caused us all such dismay, the mood is now soiled because you have been rude” Never cried again in my life

😂😂 Truthfully i don't know what i was expecting, but it wasn't that 😂😂
her : oh oh oh Subtitle : "speaking Korean" Me as non Korean : where is the Korean!?😂
In Brasil our moms say "if you keep crying ill give you a reason to cry about"
Ahaa same here in Scotland too! Cry I will give you something to cry about 😂
Common, but a nasty and childish expression for weak adults

Can confirm this as a Korean 😂😂😂 that phase usually used between friends to tease eachother.

I must've blocked out from my mind a whole bunch of cry-laughing I did in my pubertal years
