We've been promising you something very special, and this week, it's here! We had the amazing opportunity to tour one of Jacob's factories where his incredible watches are made. This week, we're finding out about the amazingly intricate process of creating sapphire crystal cases for some of his most expensive creations, such as the Astronomia, Chiron and Twin Turbo.
Big thank you to Jacob and Alexander for letting us film some of the processes involved in creating these cases. As you can imagine, a lot of the techniques and knowledge is highly guarded, and this is the first time that cameras have ever been allowed around this factory.
Stay tuned (and make sure you're subscribed) as we delve deeper into the watchmaking process, when we head to a different factory to find out how Jacob's movements are created and installed into the watches.

  • With a background in the optical industry, I did have an idea this would be complicated, yet controllable, but Jacob and Co has created a whole new level which adds enormously to the value. Who could know they grow their own materials. As for breaking during polishing, I imagine that temperature plays a significant role. And as I have polished materials myself for 7-8 hours, I can so understand the man crying when at the last point that goes wrong. Your video has created an enormous additional value to Jacob and Co because clients have no idea really what goes on behind the scenes. Much appreciated.

  • This was SOOOO much fun to watch and see for the first time. True watchmaking and craftsmanship. Sapphires. Ruby's. Emeralds. All living crystals made into art. I am stunned and tip my hat off to Mr. Jacob and his entire team. To think, this was just the CASES! Not movement (which I know is even more complex than cases). Absolutely ridiculous. Makes me want to own a Jacob of my own. Someone also mentioned in the comments how much PRIDE and inner-joy/peace Jacob AND the team clearly have for the work they're creating - from the mind of one man. To break down in tears, crying, from pouring your all into a single piece that will be worn by one lucky wearer, and passed down for generations..that's just love. There's a look on Jacob's face of, "I can't believe...this is my life...that all this began as a dream, now, a reality...and I'm alive to see it all before my eyes" It's just pure bliss, because so few people love and are passionate with the work they do and produce. You can't fake this.

  • Wow, to say this was a fascinating video is an understatement! Jacob, thank you so much for allowing Michael and Adam inside your first factory to see what goes into making your watches. To say a watch cost a Million $$$ you tend to think that a lot of that is the “brand name” ….BUT not the case with these watches clearly. The hours and labour of love and dedication that goes into making each and every watch in astounding. That this is JUST the case, without the hours of adding the movements inside is so eye opening. I know Jacob has said numerous times they are expensive to make and very complex, what an understatement. The hours upon hours, that machinery processes then the hand polishing before you even start to look like the end product it’s surprising they are not even more expensive. Kudos to Jacob for his very extremely challenging ideas and end creations, pushing the boundaries of nothing is impossible 🤩 I felt so bad for the guy that spent all that time making a case to accidentally break it, I imagine his heart sank to the floor along with his tears. So many, many hours of work gone in a split second. Thank you so much Michael Adam and especially Jacob, for the honour of allowing us to see a “small” part of what you do for work, making your truly unique and amazing watches. What a privilege ❤ Love from Australia 🇦🇺💙💙💙

A watch maker holding pieces of watches at different stages of development, asking a patron for feedback with a smile. Looks really happy here 😍 A scene that'll come to mind whenever I think of taking pride in your work, for sure. Thanks for sharing the factory tour with us.

    • Agree with you. Jacob & Co. uses 3rd party company just to make the cases. It’s safe to assume that they also use other contractors to the make the components of their movements, bracelets/straps, etc. of their watches, and the final assembly, waterproof/accuracy testing and packaging. They are not a vertically integrated watch company and don’t have their own factory.
